Pure Libertonian
Please somebody tell me how to change the districts limits in San Andreas? I mean the district's name text which appears in right low corner in game and on the map. Sorry for my English.
supermortalhuman
zones: http://www.gtamodding.com/index.php?title=ZONE edit, got ur PM Well I think "map editor" can do it (edit just ganton area), but I would suggest 3DS Max and the Map Input/Output script included in Kams Scripts. I think all the surrounding boxes will need to be adjusted too. Basically though, once you figure out a way to visualize the cubes that make up the zon files, it will just be exporting the new data and replacing the old data with it after you make your edits. The zon files can be opened in notepad, and are plain text with a custom extension (.???). What are you trying to acheive by editing this? Does it serve a purpose (I'm asking as it may not be worth the work, that's also assuming that they can not have gaps, which I'm not sure. I think if you are not in a defined zone, the game just says "San Andreas" but I could be wrong, that might just be in the new Liberty City, not the old engine. Also, I don't think they can have overlap. I'm not sure if you will surely need to edit the surrounding ones, but make sure you don't add overlap). I'm sure I didn't say everything I could to get you going, but I need to see how much of this makes sense to you already before I continue. If it is sounding too complicated for something so minor (it's a quick edit, I can't see you wanting to learn max just to do this, so I will take a look once I know what you want to do since I am free all morning if you don't already know max or map editor - map ed is not recommended) Edited June 30, 2009 by supermortalhuman
Pure Libertonian
What are you trying to acheive by editing this? Does it serve a purpose Well, for example (not final idea): Just I want very much and try to make Ganton more realistic and likely for me, but I'm not a modding expert so that's why all I can do is change 'Ganton' and 'Ganton Gym' text in GXT Editor to 'Compton' and 'Compton Gym'. Also I changed LSPD abbreviation on police cars to LAPD and Families' green clothes to blue, Ballas' purple clothes to red in Photo Filtre. I can use only TXD Workshop and GXT Editor, but I want more, because new ideas come to my mind everyday, and all these ideas are about South Central neighborhoods ONLY. Last months I worried about the text on the roadsings I can't find a way how to change this damn text, but wanna do this very much, because it's much more important than text in american.gxt file. Every fool can change a few words in GXT. So my goal is change the districts names on the roadsigns and change Ganton limits. I ask nobody to do it for me, just tell me how to do it or which tools I have to use.
supermortalhuman
Ah, one of those aesthetic modders, eh? You're a rare breed, very valuable in polishing stuff and helping to tie things together. Overlooked too often in games modding, I say. Anyways, the road sign text. I think San Andreas did those in a hard code - I'm not sure there are any data files, but I am pretty sure it is a bitmap font and real time print. Maybe you can change these in some data file. However it's done, I think it is similar to the license plates. Moving ganton limits - you can pull that off with 3DS Max, but it's not advisable anymore at this point, mainly because to do this kind of edit, you kinda would already know how to do a lot of other things in the app, so unless you wanna learn (and it's worth it imo, but might not be your cup of tea), let's try map editor: http://grandtheftauto.filefront.com/file/M...n_Andreas;52116 I can not vouch for whether that application is dependable or not. It is apparently an updated version that fixes some coordinates and file saving bugs the game once had, but better back up the files you edit before changing them, just in case. You can find information on this program around the web and on this site, but chances are someone will be able to pop in the topic and know a bit about it, maybe they can share how to load and render the zones and edit them. I'm not even positive this thing supports zones, but it's worth a look if max is your only other option besides hand-editing with notepad (which is doable, but if the zones MUST be touching, then you could screw things up pretty easily - better to use an editor when possible on helper objects like these)
EncryptedReality
But man why would you copy the same mod that already exists , theres a real map names mod already out , wouldnt it be copying???
supermortalhuman
No, it wouldn't be. And it would not be wrong for him to use your crit as a hint to go get that mod and use that text line. That's not copying or mod theft, that's smart use of the assets around you. No one can claim ownership on a text line. Of all people, I think you should not be down talking the newbies, being very new to this, too. He's learning though, just let him play. He's got the interest, everyone starts somewhere.
