Somewhere inbetween. SA got a bit too wacky with the jetpack and stealing military jets.

I didn't really see GTA IV as that realistic. I mean, how realistic is it to go on a killing spree, murdering hundreds of people and countless police officers, only to be slapped with a $10,000 fine and six hours in custody?

In my opinion, GTA IV was no more realistic than GTA SA, it was more logical. Down to Earth, is another term I might use. Realistic though? Only the physics were more realistic. Other than that? No different to San Andreas.

GTA 4 was only more realstic in terms of A.I, Physics, and added detail but that was a given since R* had much more hardware to work with. That said the next one will work off the same, if not improved, physics system, better A.I and improved physics like between GTA 3 and GTA Vice City and it will have more features. Unless R* really switches it up.

Isn't there already a thread called Fun vs. Realism that is basically the same thing?

I'm a purist. Add to what IV has started, just like III got added to. The core is new, add to it, don't dumb it back down to the old core etc.

More preferred IV's definition of 'realism'?

It has been repeated a million times over, physics engine, graphics, AI, etc, the more realistic the better.

But why compromise the scope of side-missions, no more taxi, firefighting, paramedic missions, for the lose? What disadvantage is there in being given the ability to control tanks and wreak havoc, city or state-based geography?

If there's no good and/or valid reason to take out the potential fun the game could have, they should not do it, imo.

They did that with IV and I got bored of it in a month, whereas I still play SA every now and then. It's been nearly what - 40 months since SA released? Yah.

But this is a poll and that is just a topic.

yeah, but we still don't need two threads. Last time I checked, that isn't a reason to create another thread. You could of asked for a poll to be added to the old thread....

Somewhere inbetween. Personally I find realism CAN be fun, but aslong as it isn't too realistic. Obviously GTA IV had things that made it unrealistic, but I still find it the most realistic GTA to date. Alot of the realism to me comes from the environment, and physics.

In terms of the player SA was probably more realistic in a sense that CJ could get fat, gain muscle, get different skills etc.

I don't really think any of the GTAs are "arcade" though. I've always seen them as semi-realistic. I even remember back when I got GTA III in 2002, and thinking that it was quite realistic for the time.

GTA SA style. If R* continues the IV way, it wont be long before I boycott the series and stick to the classy III-era games.

Maybe a bit too far there, but if R* goes any further with 'realism' in the next GTA I doubt I will like it.

About 90% IV "realism"...if you want to call it that.

10% San Andreas "arcade style".

IV is absolutly amazing! I love the [arguably] more realistic driving, dialogue, and story but I would like an occasional over-the-top mission that involves crash landing a helicopter into a skyscraper, having a shootout, and parachuting out...or something like that. If EVERY mission was epic and over-the-top it would be just another mission. But if like 3 or 4 missions are epic like this it would be AWESOME!!

IV has been my favourite game form the series, mainly because of the new style that they used, referred to as 'realism'. I'm hoping that they stick with it in the future, although it's important to create a balance between the two.
