The next update will not have Dx10 support they would have to practically rewrite the whole damn game to bring Dx10 support. This was just a maintenance update to bring OUR copies into line with the new gold master. There is no hidden agenda here, it's what it says on the TIN stop trying to read into something that isn't there jeez.

Do they have too much money on their hands or what? I mean, it's not logical to just release a new "version" of the game when it didn't sell THAT WELL. Look at the statistics... and secondly it's a bit weird that they are going to do so much GTA related stuff this year smile.gif

The new gold master build, the ballad of gay tony, the new patches. It's like everything is about GTA, which is strange even if this is their main bag of cash. dozingoff.gif That's why people are still wondering what this "new release" will contain. But you are definiately right, DX10 isn't an option at all. whatsthat.gif

really bad timing that the new nvidia drivers (186.18) came out together or a day before the IV update.. that at first seemed to do miracles to my gameplay and graphics in 1.0.3.0, but with 1.0.4.0 I really had a performance drop after playing for a while and a nasty stutter.. So didn't look into the drivers at first.. but in a final try before giving up for today, I installed my old driver 182.50 (181.22 also works good for me) and now it seems better then before... I should have sticked with the old drivers in the first place.. but for some reason I always hope new drivers will do some good..

sad to read that, i already knew it but just in case ... WELL let this be a recommendation:

ROLL BACK OPTION IN ALL PATCHES PLEASE

You could roll back with System Restore can't you? I think you can also roll back the hard way if you look at the patch installation details and make a note of the files that were replaced and if you wanna roll back just replace those files. You would have to make a copy if the GTAIV folder before you installed the next the patch (not a future patch, whatever the next patch up would be).

I'm gonna try this when I upgrade to 1.0.4.0 just for fun(Unless that patch actually improves things). I already have copy of the game folder on my HD with the borked XP.

I thought installing a previous patch would roll-back? I know this will work with the issues I had with my saves when upgrading

to 1030. Just try installing the patch you want and it should be okay.

Mod Note :- OK which bit of "DO NOT DISCUSS CRACKS" do you NOT understand, it seems pretty straightforward to me - cc

We won't get tattoos shops, new cars, weapons or anything new. It's a PATCH, a FIX, not new content.

As for the eternal discussion "SA better/worse than IV", I don't give a sh*t. Both are different games, each with its unique features. Play both and have fun, that's what I did.

Stop comparing the games, SA is out a long time ago and so is IV. Just play with what you're given. Rockstar won't lose time updating SA to have GTA IV's features and vice-versa, so why bother?  whatsthat.gif

So true!

I hate when people mean: i miss that and i miss that, they should do it in next game.

For me that features were wasting of resources and not realy interesting.

I think GTA IV is better, than SA, so if people like SA more, than they should play it and not explain that GTA IV don't have that senseless features.

*my mind you don't have to share it*

@Mudfrog

I had to reinstall the game.

The ppl that say this don't have a good comuter to play IV.They play SA and thinks it's more good than IV

All in all it's not a bad patch, flashing textures has reduced significantly to the point where there are only a few in some areas.

Sadly stutter remains, but only on a few areas on the "third island", turning the clip capture off reduces this to the point that I do not notice it.

Shadows have improved too

Water quality looks a bit odd...I'm not sure why, other users have noticed this too... I checked my nVidia display settings and I am set to "High Quality"

Rain at Night is not working properly (you can't see it in front of lit up signs, cars etc)

Traffic still behaves like crazy when a train goes underneath the bridge and cars drive into toll booths.

A few other AI quirks where cars seem to crash more in this patch too (anyone else noticed a lot of cars driving with dints?)

Aside from that performance during the game has improved a lot, I like this patch, lets hope the next one adds a few features or at least opens up the interiors of places we already have interiors for (Comrades Bar, Fuk's Rice etc).

So let's follow the train of thoughts Rockstar had with GTA IV for PC

Hmmm, let's publish it for the PC really,REALLY late, not just late, but slap a delay on that late, yup, that seems like a good plan. You know what could give us some time in publishing it,let's not optimize it,yup, optimization sucks anyways,I mean, how could you be a gamer if you don't have at least a 4000$ worth rig,jeez...

Wait, this is wrong, let's make it up to the PC gamers for this buggy unoptimized game, yes yes, let's dedicate a whole department to them(yes,it actually does sound nice).

Patch 1,minimum improvements

patch 2,minimum improvements

patch 3,bit more, but still on the minimum

patch 4,seems to be a disaster, but hey, nevermind,LET'S PRESS IT ONTO DISC!

I mean seriously guys,if you press 1.0.4.0. to disc, then you're not just lousy programmers, you're a lousy excuse for a creature with a supposedly highly developed mammalian brain.

I seriously hope you're planing 1.0.5.0,or hopefully,but not likely,2.0.0.0.,or at least 1.1.0.0.,because pressing 1.0.4.0 to DVD's would be a DISASTER.

And this is what I cannot comprehend,...part time programmers do a better job than R* Toronto,I mean, seriously guys.

And let's face it,most of these patches were more about TURNING OFF something, than fixing it.

confused.gif I do not have my hopes up for GTA:V PC or what-ever-the-hell is next

Angelus031: Nice post, and I have calculated how stupid you are. If you'd remember when GTA III has been released, people complained a lot like now... and after that, Rockstar released a much better version of the same engine but optimized it so older rigs could run it.

Now, imagine this with GTA IV, but through patches... just because you didn't get the awaited 20000fps+ does not mean other people didn't too... confused.gifconfused.gif

Patch 1.0.3 was the best thing this game ever had, smooth graphics with very high fps, check the rig on my signature i get average 45 during gameplay (measured with fraps) and sometimes 60 fps in the city with movement!

Before the 1.0.3.0 patch I had pretty regular out of video memory probs, when 1.0.3.0 came along I did a test since that prob were not coming up at all and decided to play the game from start to finnish with only pausing the game every couple of hours for brakes, no problems at all, and has got even smoother fps since 1.0.4.0.

So the only thing to look forward to with support for me and i'm sure others would be anti cheat for MP and wishful thinking of DLC somewhere down the road and if not DLC some tools to make our own fan made DLC the city is already made, just need more things to do with it, I miss parachutes, would have been cool to do base jumps biggrin.gif .

To be honest I would be very gutted if there were not going to be any more gta's for pc, all the gta's have consumed more of my gaming time than any other pc game, call me a fanboy I don't care gta best gaming franchise ever icon14.gificon14.gif .

And you are the golden example of a naive gamer.

If they could they would, they can't so they won't,as simple as that. And no,I do not await 2000+ fps,nor can my eye see that, but I suppose a poor 30+ fps is not to much to ask, especially since my rig is far from bad.

I have been in the discussions since the topic "GTA:IV for PC:Will it happen?",so trust me,I have had plenty of experience, also,I have stuck with the GTA series since the original game, and pointing out at someones intelligence only shows how much you lack of argument.

My post maybe was a tad over-sarcastic,but rather than commenting my tacky writing style,I have to say, sorry but I hit the nail on the head.

Ok if you don't have anything relevant about patch 1.0.4.0 could you kindly do us a favour and NOT clutter this thread up. If you want to have a whine then go and do it in some other thread.

I installed this thing, last night and everything seemed ok to me. I think the stuttering stopped for me., I think. God knows this game has a mind of its own some times so, I will keep testing for awhile.

No change for me, the game KEEPS running very well and smooth.

By the way, I don't have 4000$ rig. Mine cost just about 400 euros. ^^

Okay, had any one noticed the values for draw distance have been changed?

if you used 50 in .3.0 it will look like 30 in .4.0 so that you need to set it higher on on the new patch if you want the same results you had.

(Update - 20th June)

To save people having to read through the whole topic, here's a quick summary of the most common issues and some potential solutions:

1) If your performance has gotten noticeably worse, go to the Game menu and ensure that Clip Capture is turned off.

2) If you get errors when installing the patch, make sure that GTA IV and Social Club aren't running.

3) Delete any mods if the game won't start. Remove any ASI files. As a last resort, try re-installing the game.

4) ATI and NVIDIA released new drivers this week, so try updating those: http://www.gta4.net/news/4266/new-drivers-...-ati-and-nvidia

5) If the game is stuttering, read this: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=404147

6) Refer to the modding forum if your mods no longer work. Things like ScriptHook require updating.

Don't use the benchmark tool to determine your game's performance, because it isn't entirely accurate. I got an extra 5-6 fps after installing the new patch, but the benchmark tool indicates otherwise. Play the game and judge for yourself.

This just about says it all, except that I find Nvidia drivers ver 181.22 work best for me with with my 8800GTX card. The game is working better now for me than it ever has since comming out last December. Thanks for the effort Rockstar.

i noticed that after this patch, not only i lost fps (already upgraded video drivers and stuttering is gone) but everything looks more grainy, that is why i liked patch 3 so much, the game was flew wonderfully and smooth as silk

I have yet to install this patch so I haven't voted yet. But looking at the poll results (I "cheated" and logged out and looked at the poll results as a guest wink.gif ) it looks like there's pretty mixed results, with most people having no change, less people having a performance boost, and even a considerable amount of people with a performance decrease.

Hmm I'm kind of weary of this update, but very curious to see what it'll do to my performance.

I just hope it's not going to screw me over, I shall see in a couple of days...

Two problems never encountered before 1.0.4.0:

(1) During the prison break mission, my partner keeps getting killed (this never happened before, played the mission several times on both PS3 and PC). This could be due to the fact that tons of traffic now spawns in the tunnel during the breakout part, and a lot of these cars explode during the ensuing gun battle.

(2) Driver pop-in is ridiculous - I'm 10 feet from a car, no driver inside; I take a single step forward and poof! the driver magically appears.

I'm probably just going to roll back to 1.0.3.0, since I don't do multiplayer.

Hey, i have a problem with GTA IV PC.

When i start GTA it runs ok, when i have played 3 minutes my hard drive start to come really busy, i can see it always because i got a red led on my computer case it shows when hard drive is busy, so my hard drive starts to make noise and gta starts to lag, someone know wheres the problem?

i got a Seagate Barracuda 7200 250GB (Free Space over 100GB)

This all started to happen after i got 1.0.4.0. -.-

Thanks to this patch I'm not going to play GTA 4 any more until my new HDD comes in and I reinstall the game and stick with Patch 1.0.3.0. I went from 30 fps being the lowest my PC would dip down to at night to now getting an average of around 23fps at night. The dips down to 17fps or so are ridiculous. dozingoff.gif
