While it's obvious that they invested a lot of money on GTAIV it's VERY obvious they invested very little in PC version of the game. That's the reason why there was zero to none promotion for the PC version and why it needed three patches to get into a semi-stable state.

for some odd reason, GTAIV without the patches is playable. GTAIV with all the patches and graphic updates gives me a measly 15-20FPS. And I am running on 4gigs/q6600/4870x2. Thats how bad this port is.

Has it possibly ever occurred to you that it just MIGHT be your PC ? I have 3gigs/q6600/GTX260 and I get around 30 - 40 fps with most settings on high.

yes it has, and after 3 clean formats ever since the patch came out ( I mean I literally formatted my pc out of desperation to get the game working, and after a windows install I only installed the drivers and the game) the game still runs like utter sh*t.

This isn't really the place to discuss what could be wrong with your PC. If you are really only getting 20fps in the game then there is something fundamentally wrong with your PC. It might be wise for you to create a topic in trouble shooting giving as much detail as you can about your PC setup and game settings (plus a benchmark) and the clever guys on here might be able to help.

ok so we got very similar pc and I still get higher performance than you with a much less powerful gpu. That alone should tell you that it's your system that has a problem, prob mainboard drivers? What type and speed hdd do you have? Whats your memory specs?

The RAGE engine was made on the PC

You have proof of this, surely.

If it was made for PC, why is it "optimized" to use three cores? How many machines out there have 3 cores? Some machines with broken AMD quads and around 20 million xboxes.

Show proof that it only runs on three cores. You made that claim, yet you still didn't back it up.Or maybe it is because you made that up.

lol I don't need to prove it, the proof is all around us lol. It's called the truth.

Thank you for proving absolutely nothing mkey, actually charlie's result shows a different picture.

so the core in 28% is idle?

i can also link to some shady links like this one: removed

and there are more out there, just google it.

IV only scales well up to three cores, it does use the fourth core, but not all that much.

so the core in 28% is idle?

I don't get this one.

Anyway, I personally made this image on a quad on 32bit Vista. It's the ACTUAL CPU usage, not that sh*t the benchmark is outputing. All the data has been recorded with Everset and then imported into excell be me personally. If you want, I'll upload all the original data files.

Your "shady" argument is a bit slim, don't you reckon? There are number of pictures proving the same on an i7 - only THREE cores are used.

if you're talking about the pic where the MT was disabled and all the cores display peaked

then i really don't know what to say any more.

i really don't know what to say any more.

Quite correct.

* I'm talking about processors that have 4 cores but run on a steady 72-75% usage and practically never go above (depending on the load of the background processes, of course) that. Even if the load is BALANCED over four cores, the actual app is using only three cores. A picture to this effect made by Vicetopia here

* I'm talking about situations where changing the affinity of the app or disabling one core on a quad has none whatsoever effect on game performance. Had the game used the fourth core, you would surely lose FPS

* I'm talking about i7 CPU's that with hyperthreading enabled have only about 35% CPU usage and with disable HT they double that number

It's not my fault you can't read graphs lol. Deal with it.

Built on 3, optimized for 3. The mysterious fourth is doing hard-core on background.

Maybe it is because it doesn't use 100% of the cpu all the time. If it did, then the whole pc would lag.

Also look at this picture.

Notice how ALL 4 cores are being used. They aren't being used 100% though. All of them are being used at about 75 to 80%. So yeah there goes your lies.

Also look at this GTA 4 performance on the AMD Phenom 2 X4 810 AMD Phenom 2 X3 720 BE, and the i7 and an Extreme Edition Quad Core. The AMD Phenom 2 X3 720 BE is the same thing as the x4 810, just with 1 core disabled. the cache size, architecture and clock rate are the same.

So, why does the tri core perform worse than the quad core which is the exact same, just with an extra core? Maybe it is because GTA 4 DOES utilize more than 3 cores.

http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html...W50aHVzaWFzdA==

Also, this is usage on my i7 with HTT enabled.

http://forums.ngemu.com/attachments/hardwa...4-cpu-usage.png

All of the cores are being used. Some are being used more than others, but they all are doing something, and I do get better performance with it even though it isn't as large as the jump from 2 cores to 4.

I don't see that as a memory leak. You are making claims you do not even have qualifications to make. The game uses different amounts of ram because it ONLY loads what it needs, and keeps what it has loaded. If you just hang out in the apartment for that hour, it will not do that. The game loads while you play - it is not an example of a memory leak, it's the game loading assets and keeping them handy.

If it wasn't for people figuring out how to mod GTA IV, I wouldn't be interested in purchasing it for the PC. If I ever get a PC that can handle it XD

I'm generally not into PC gaming because to play most of these games not made available for consoles requires a computer that costs more than my car. And it just appears to me that PC exclusive games appeal to people with an anti-social personality disorder "Oh, I got this uber computer with 77.0 ghz processor, 90 gig ram, 65 gig video memory video card, Platinum - jewel encrusted tower, and a sound system that's louder than a Whitesnake concert. My e-dick is bigger than yours!"

Comparing Crysis to GTA4? That's different. Still, I'm sick of looking at one building, while the rest of the city is rendered right behind it even if I can't see it.

I highly doubt that... Considering the fact that the Xbox 360 has been out longer than the intel dual core processor and the processor is already out of date... For hypothetical discussion, lets say I did buy a computer with all of the "up to date" hardware. I'll almost guarantee that by the time the next "big" pc game comes out, the hardware will be out of date and listed as "minimum specs" to run it...

and the 360 has another couple years to go before the next generation of consoles come out...

I'm not totally dissing PC gaming, but there aren't very many games that I want to play that I can't play on my 360 for cheaper. If I wanted to play the game "Dead Space" on a computer, it would seriously require a computer that costs as much if not more than my car... I'm not dishing out $1,500 for a machine to play a single game... And would be obsolete before I even get it in my car to take it home...

Core 2 is not outdated. Even though a newer line of processors have been released, it is still more than powerful enough to handle all current games and future games.

PC gaming doesn't cost as much as you claim, and it doesn't become obsolete as quickly as you claim either. Hardware is not what it used to be, hardware is way ahead of software now.

Compared to Crysis, GTA IV sucks. There is no AA, volumetric crap isn't there (light beams, it would be awesome to be in Alderney looking around when it rains while there is sun, just imagine how pretty that would look. And stay away from your Señor Penor), no SSAO and the AI just sucks. I never get killed in IV. Even when i'm out of ammo, i just pick up a pistol from the dead cops with 6 stars and start shooting on the cops, when they are gone i get into a car and drive away.

wait. now i'm running out of ideas.

If you forget those 4 things, IV is just AWESOME.

1: In Crysis, there aren't 20 cars driving around you with physics enabled, and there will be always a few cars that drive like you. They avoid obstacles and pedestrians. In Crysis, the KPA just crashes into a tree to get slaughtered by you.

2: In Crysis, a alive man doesn't have physics. If he's dead, he has. In IV, if you pull a grenade, things AND people fly away. In Crysis, things fly away nice, but people just STAND there like nothing happened. If they are dead they do fly away. If you shoot a dude in Crysis, he just stands there like nothing happened and shoots back. In IV, the dude is really getting HIT and is fnding his balance again.

3: In Crysis, you can destroy tires of cars. YAY! In GTA, you can detroy the whole car (doors, glass, bonnets, bumpers) and your car gets deformed. Oh, they also have SUSPENSION. You know, that thing that makes you not break your back when you aren't driving over flat road. Oh, in GTA IV, cars also DO react realistic to colissions. They swing away and such. In Crysis, the cars just stop. Nothing else.

4+5: The gameplay in Crysis is NOTHING compared to GTA IV. The only things you have to do in Crysis: Shoot, use your nanosuit, shoot, kill Koreans and aliens and shoot some more. Nothing else. (Well, you DO have to travel, but what do you see when you are finding your way to the next killing point? Nothing. Only plants, plants, plants and sometimes a plane flying by. Oh, and when not on a mission you can... erm... swim... shoot trees... shoot/throw animals (crabs and chickens)... and... and.. erm... OH! COLLECT WEAPONS! Yeah. Cool. not.

In IV, you can play with your friends, sorf the interwebz, listen to the radio (music AND people talk, not a Korean dude talking sh*t about US ships), listen to people (and not to Koreans who say the same things over and over) and you can have fun. Sidemissions. Cabbing. Giving money away to things. Fight with people normally. Interactive enivirnment. (Crysis = get a can of cola to throw at Koreans) Race.

6: Dynamic weather. Weather in GTA IV is DYNAMIC. You know what DYNAMIC means? It CHANGES. C-H-A-N-G-E. There is very bright sun, there is hell of a lot rain/storm and everything between. The weather in Crysis is either sun, either rain or ICE. I haven't seen anything else and i've played both versions multiple times. (And wind also affects helis)

And this is only the technical side. IV's story is BIG. Crysis' story is just.. Well. short: Special guys in a gay suit go to North Korea to look at an prehistoric object that is very advanced and to come there, they shoot the hell out of Koreans. Then the ting got active and froze evrything, what caused the arival of more gay-suited guys shooting at eachother, while trying to get a container with a Alien robot they could get easely by sending the nanosuit team to ANY alien exosuit (you'll find HUNDREDS of them, and using the stealth mode you can approach them and catch them), but they won't and chase the Korean idiot with the container.

That was brilliant biggrin.gif Totally agree tounge.gif

lol awesome, yeah gta 4 is superior to crysis, i dont like crysis very much anyway... its way unoptimised, BUT HEY i buyed this pc for crysis and i complete it in a day at 30-20 fps, the change was huge, it was common to me to play games at 15 fps or lower. biggrin.gif good times, when i dont cared abount fps...
