There is still a few unanswered questions. Like what other stuff has Megitto done. And obviously at the end of the game Coste is being rescued by Sam at the secret Black Arrow base. Maybe the game can pick up from there, or some time before.

I'd rather have a prequel. Maybe before Third Echelon when Sam and Doug Shetland were working together.

The N. Bellic Man

This was a great game after all.

I really liked the new more action packed gameplay, eventhough I'm a fan of those earlier titles.

Only if it would have been a little longer and harder it would have been perfect.

Michael Ironside did a great job as a voice actor (as usual). It would have been completely insane if some other actor would have voice acted Sam Fisher. At one point there actually was a rumour that Ironside wouldn't be in this game.

Yeah, great game. Pity it's so short. I particulary likeed the level where you are in the laboratory. I'm on my second play through and trying it on Realistic. Edited by ThePinkFloydSound

yeah Ironside wasn't enthusiastic about Conviction, because he felt there wasn't much more he could do with the character, but once he saw the script he changed his mind.... apparently

I completed the story yesterday and even on realistic difficulty where i took my time trying to go stealthy i still finished it fairly quickly.

ย

I don't think i was able to go through a whole mission in stealth mode as in some parts of the game full on combat was pretty much forced. I feel the game has been a bit dumbed down for newer audiences though who favour run and gunning over stealth.

ย

I still enjoyed it though but i miss the full blown stealth aspect.

i agree sad.gif

I don't think Conviction is better then DA. the black and white bit's really annoying. I spend most of the game in shadows, so i'm playing a game in black and white.

also hate how N/V and thermal isn't in anymore. They could have had NV thermal and sonar.... :\

I just finaly bothered to finish that Last stand crap on realistic.

ย

About 3 of those maps are pretty fun, the rest SUCK ARSE. Just tedius boring annoying crap.

ย

The only way its manageable is just throwing loads of gadgets.

ย

Its a bullsh*t mode that shouldnt be in a stealth game.

ย

They may as well put in a mode where you have to set off car alarms and escape on a bicycle with a coke can stuck to the tyre.

ย

Oh well I have 1000/1000 now so It can finaly f*ck off.

ย

Need more story maps NOW.

I've got the end credits playing in the background now as we speak. What a brilliant game. Although it deviated from the full blown stealth porn of the other titles, I actually preferred what Convictions did. It made me want to be more stealthy as I refused to give in to gun-hoing it all the way through. I like that it wasn't forced.

ย

ย

ย

This is only the 2nd Splinter Cell game i've completed, with the other being Chaos Theory. I got impatient with the first game, stuck in Jerusalem in Pandora and plain thought DA sucked compared to Chaos Theory.

ย

The last mission was a blast. So many rememberable moments in this game. If the next title starts from that cutscene i'll be a happy happy man.

Did you chose to kill or spare Reed?

Second option was kinda better IMO.

ย

Oh and, you should definitely finish SC1 and Pandora Tomorrow and if you can, play Double Agent on PS2 or old Xbox. Awesome games. Last mission in SC1 is so awesome.

I chose the first because I felt like a ruthless bastard going through that. The real life adrenaline took over. I've seen the second option in a run through that I just finished watching, which yeah does seem a lot better. I love watching other people play Splinter Cell games purely coz there are so many different ways of getting through a mission.

ย

Jerusalem just pissed me the heck off back in the day. I was quite young when the first 2 came out so I haven't played them in a long long time. I imagine my sense of logic for getting through rooms of enemies is a lot better now.

Yeah, I remember being frustrated at Jerusalem back in the day, as well. But then I found all the best ways to navigate through the level, and just pretty much gunned my way through the laboratory part, making sure to keep some non-lethal weapons for the cops at the end, and it's a snap. I think you really need to play all the games though, especially the first two to see the relationship between Sam and his Daughter, as well as Grim and Lambert. Chaos Theory is definitely the gem of the last gen games. It's pretty much the perfect game in my opinion.

I think in the next game they should focus on both action AND stealth. I feel this game lacks a bit of stealth. You are mostly enforced to do action. Still awesome though.

Action just seems like the obvious choice with all the weapons you get and cool shooting mechanics. Stealth is still there and it's super cool if you try to use stealth only. But they did remove some of the key elements that made Splinter Cell unique. I miss lock-picking, picking up bodies, distracting guards with trowing objects etc. That shouldn't have been removed.

I'm very tempted. I used to have Pandora Tomorrow on Xbox...Are the first 2 compatible with the 360? because I got rid of my original Xbox long ago and might rebuy them both.

ย

I remember playing the original on my neighbours Xbox when it first came out before I bought it. I thought the split jump was the most amazing epic thing in the world at the time. Little did I know it would still be going in the form of Conviction. Crazy stuff.

In Pandora Tomorrow? Not that I've heard of. I haven't played it on the PC, but the only game in the series that I heard that differs from the original Xbox and PC is Double Agent.

ย

ย

Oh wow, that's not even Splinter Cell anymore...

ย

ย

I like Zero Punctuation's review of Conviction. Point at a wall over there you want to hide behind, press a button, Sam complies. Guard shooting you? Press a button and Sam disables him.

ย

At least with Metal Gear Solid 4, disabling a guard required more than just pressing a button turn.gif You'd have to hold down the trigger while simultaneously pushing the analog stick in a direction, and he would throw the guard to the ground, knocking him out. If you wanted to grab a guy, you'd hold down the trigger and nothing else. And if you face to face and the guard was alerted, you'd often get the butt of his gun to your face and be knowcked down - so your tactics would have to change (e.g. diving and tackle).

ย

ย

What I'm saying is it required more skill and actual thinking, wherein the latest Splinter Cell is all one-button knock that guy out, one button leap to cover --- at least make it more natural with your controller inputs by including the analog stick simultaniously...

ย

ย

ย

Just sayin' , don't flame me for stating FACT.

neither is pressing one button.

ย

CQC (close-quarters combat) in Metal gear Solid 4 was pretty innovative and dynamic. For example, you'd have to be a certain distance (like 2) feet to successfully perform face to face maneuvers/takedowns.. otherwise you'd have a high chance of getting mellee'd in the face and knocked down.

ย

ย

Splinter Cell Conviction is gorgeously animated and fluid looking, but gameplay CQC doesn't seem as innovative or natural feeling as the other game I mention.

ย

ย

And no lockpicking or moving bodies is a massive letdown.. truly pointless to remove such basic functions..

In conviction you can't just run up in front of someone and take them down in the middle of a fire fight. They'll knock you back, and shoot you (dead if you're playing on realistic). Even if you are close up and face to face.

ย

MGS and Splinter Cell are no longer comparable. MGS4's stealth has more to do with the traditional one enemy at a time, while in Conviction's stealth is more to do with either sneaking by clean, or getting into position and taking out all the enemies in an area in seconds with a few quick moves. It's more of a breach and clear gameplay.

You can't melee anyone from the other side of the room in conviction either confused.gif

It sounds awesome.

ย

I really dislike tagging guys though... it should have been limited to tagging one guy maximum. All you have to do is knock out some guys manually to gain more, once upgrades are acquired for guns..

ย

ย

The aiming, (and moving at the same time) in Conviction has massively improved. But a lot of things are truly too easy and quick. Climbing pipes on the sealing of large rooms is often shamelessly fast... it's just bizarre.

ย

ย

I just don't like Conviction. And Metal Gear Solid 4 has no value after act 2. I'm not a fanboy of either, I like to think I have a clear 3rd party perspective smile.gif

ย

But Conviction "breach and clear" gameplay isn't the path I wanted Splinter Cell to take... Having that scenario well executed at certain places is all fine. But Sam should be more like a... mostly non-violent Ninja. Not a ninja who marks and executes, even when a guy walks behind an obstacle the bullet still gets them...

ย

and over the course of the game kills hundreds of guards easy...

It's basically the same. There are some different cinematics and maybe a few different things in level design but nothing major. It really doesn't matter if you get it on PC or a console. I have every SC (not Conviction of course) for both PC and PS2 and the only one completely different is Double Agent.
