universetwisters
I sorta like the new update. At least just the part where you get to pick up guns. I finally tried the AWPerhand and it's pretty neat.
RedDagger
http://www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=17833 New gamemode: football in TF2. No, I'm not kidding. Haven't tried it yet. Also, just gonna say the gun mettle update's pretty fun - the balances have done well, the contracts are nice, and I like my skins.
universetwisters
The one thing that bugs me about the update is that evidently you got to pay to be able to get the skins. I dunno though, the contracts seem pretty simple, but are they worth it for the skins?
RedDagger
Well, I got the campaign pass as soon as I could, and as with everything in TF2's economy stuff's ridiculously expensive when it first comes out - so you could sell a few weapons or crates you got on the SCM and get your money back. Now...well, unless you only got 10p skins, it might be worth it in a purely monetary sense, but if you're looking for specific skins it'd be just like unboxing crates - more worth your time getting the skin directly. However, from a non-monetary perspective it's still pretty nice, and it's only £
universetwisters
Sweet mother of sh*t, the catch-ball passtime mode is fun as f*ck. Can't wait for other servers other than Valve's to pick it up. The longass spawn times are getting to be a real bummer.
RedDagger
This happened on b4nny's (the best TF2 player) stream: After 8 years seems like TF2 will soon be getting matchmaking...though most serious players have already accustomed themselves to external PUG sites and unofficial tournaments 'cus Valve haven't cared about competitive TF2 Vik and Shoumaker

RedDagger
I'm a pyro main - stuff's okay though apparently the degreaser is bugged and not receiving the extra switch speed, instead using stock, which uh...isn't the greatest.
Alexander
There's a f*cking TF2 topic? THERE'S A F*CKING TF2 TOPIC!!! http://www.teamfortress.com/toughbreak/ The update looks ok. I don't play a lot of Pyro so I don't really know what the hell is going on about it, but so far so good.

RedDagger
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/tfcompetitive/discussions/0/405692224225135720/ Hello from the TF2 team, and thanks for joining the TF2 competitive beta group! We hope you're all ready to start killing each other for points as we get this mode up on its feet. We know you'd all like to start testing now, and eventually we hope all of you WILL get a chance to play and share your thoughts. But remember that all testing happens in stages, and right now we're at stage one. Our plan is to start small and increase participation as we go. For this initial phase of testing - which will begin in the next week or so - we'll be gradually granting random members from this group an in-game item called a Competitive Matchmaking Beta Pass. Once you've been granted a pass you will have ongoing access to the beta. In addition, we will begin holding both announced and unannounced stress-test events, inviting many group members to participate for the duration of the event to test our systems. Group members selected for stress-tests won't require a pass to play for the duration of the event. Whether we randomly select you for stress testing or grant you a pass, we will prioritize group members that meet the following requirements: Have either purchased a copy of Team Fortress 2 prior to June 23, 2011, or have made a purchase from the Mann Co. Store. (AKA premium accounts) Have Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator enabled. (https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=8625-WRAH-9030 ) Have a phone number associated with your Steam account (https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=8625-WRAH-9030#addphone ) Thanks again for your interest and support. Vik
The neato update has been announced. Before today—literally the moment before you started reading this sentence—the only way you could enjoy matchmaking on your computer was through dating sites. That got us thinking. What if you took the promise of dating site matchmaking, and, instead of getting matched up based on Snapchat's face-reshaping filters and lies about how much you love hiking, it was based on your actual real-face dating performance? That's when it hit us: Take matchmaking and apply it to video games. "But what about...?" you say, and we cut you off mid-sentence, gently place our fingers on your lips and whisper: Matchmaking has never existed in video games before. But now it does! Click to find out how Matchmaking is going to change the way you play TF2 in the upcoming Meet Your Match Update! Competitive Mode finally announced. Casual mode announced, state of current pubs unclear. Sunshine, Metalworks, and Swiftwater finally added to the mix Pass Time officially out of beta. Day 2 teaser. Meat your match, get it? Rewdalf
The game is dead, folks. About as dead as this thread was before I posted this. Matchmaker is utter sh*t. Community servers all play the exact same maps and the community is as toxic as ever. They removed CTF Well and Sawmill from official rotation. Not to mention they aren't even delivering on their promised updates. Game isn't terrible though, that's the thing. It's just so bland now. I cashed in and started selling my entire inventory around a week ago. Interesting fact I learned, steam has a maximum wallet limit of $500. RedDagger
How to kill game: "Overwatch is coming, we need MM!" "How do we do MM?" "I don't know, if only we had people in the same building and studio who had wildly successful and continuously improved competitive systems to base it off of" "Shame, let's create a system from the ground up without putting any thought into it, they can beta test it" (few weeks later) "Beta test finished, now what?" "Release it as it is, they keep complaining that it sucks so they can piss off" "Sounds good to me" "Also remove pubs we need to implement this pseudo MM into normal gameplay as well because reasons" Really, how people working on a game that's still as popular as TF2 is/was can just completely and entirely screw up something that should be so easy is baffling...It's pretty insulting to the players. Nico
Is this thing still going? I haven't played TF2 in like, 3 or 4 years. I played Sniper 90% of the time on the Hightower map. Not precisely a top notch player. Did you see the frightened ones? Did you hear the falling bombs? Did you ever wonder... ...why we had to run for shelter when the promise of a brave new world unfurled beneath a clear blue sky?

ghost of delete key
"Machmaking" was the deathknell... but the lack of support from Valve nailed it in the pine box. This has been one of my all-time favorites, but now, virtually ALL the great servers are perpetually empty. The only good hope for a match is a Skial or occasionally a FITH server, but the problem is they are so populated, it's nearly impossible to get on. The 'updates' were all a joke, the long-anticipated Pyro Update was another box of hats, and nothing AT ALL was fixed in the sorely-broken Pyro (especially touchy, coming from a Pyro-main)... Valve is only concerned with sprouting The Next big Thing, and could care less about supporting their aging 'classics'. *sigh* "I can just imagine him driving off the edge of a cliff like Thelma & Louise, playing his Q:13 mix at full volume, crying into a bottle." - Craig

I can't see why this topic doesn't get more love, that meme about TF2 being dead is so stale. True, many of the great servers from yesteryear are gone, but there's plenty of vital communities in the pubs, screw Casual and Competetive.
