Over the next few days we'll be removing all TF2 items that were earned using external idling applications. We're going to adopt a zero tolerance policy for external applications used to manipulate the persistent item system. Due to us not having a policy in place prior to today, this time we're only removing the items earned through cheating the system. Going forward, if we find users using external applications, we'll remove all of their items. If you're interested, only about 4.5% of the players in TF2's community will be affected by this cleansing process.

 

Meanwhile, everyone who took the moral high road will soon be finding a new hat in their inventory. We've also significantly increased the chance of finding any of the existing hats.

 

We realize there is a high level of demand for items, and we're still working on systems to allow you to find them in new ways (via Trading, and crafting duplicates into desired items). However, we need to draw the line at running external applications.

I did some idling for the hats, biut ended up with a crap load of normal weapons, ad not a single hat, managed to bag me a Sandman through it though, i got rid of like all of the items though, and kept one of each atleast, well, i forgot i had some level 90 stuff, like my level 98 cloak and dagger and level 96 Sandvich, and deleted them by accident, which annoyed me.

 

Ah well, if i lose all my items, so be it, i 'll just get them back.

Well i went on TF2 to see which items of mine had been removed, and i still have atleast one of everything, i'm glad Valve upped the percentage of getting a hat though, i bet it wasn't by much though.

This sh*t is so retarded. Thank you Valve for being complete and utter f*cktards. After the sniper-spy update, I player TF2 an average of one and a half to two hours a day. From that day the only items I got were 3 kritzkriegs and a sandman. After the milestones returned, I finally got the opportunity to check the new weapons, nearly 2 months after they become available, when my backpack happily filled with more useless junk. Now after 4 months, I saw almost every player on the servers with a hat and I felt a little mad. Then came the classless update with medals which clearly only americans could get since the blog post was made like 2 in the morning and there were only 11.111 medals. I then started to pick up on this idler thingy and gave it a try since all the achievement_idle servers my game found were in america with ~300 ping. I used the program for 2 nights, finding more useless junk. I then finally quit reallising that I'll never get a hat. And now this giving away free hats. Thank you Valve, thank you for being suck idiotfaces and punishing us people who were a little desperate, who had nothing after almost half a year of play and started using the program and deleting our items and giving free hats to everyone else and making us feel like you're rubbing into our faces. Thank you !

 

Oh, and good job on directing the players to the 'moral high road' like you stated yourself

I don't intend to e-fight anyone. The community is not split. The cheaters got their just desserts and all 3.5-5% of them are pissed off that they lost their cosmetic hats and dupes. From what I have read, non-idlers are fine with the punishment. I play a ton of TF2 but I didn't complain about not getting a hat despite all the hours I play.

 

P.S. Spies, do not wear the halo because it is seen through the invisibility cloak for some reason. Wait til it is patched.

It's your fault for using the program, if you didn't, you'd have a hat now, which is a useless thing anyway.

 

Oddly enough, it seems almost no-one in Australia used it, nearly every server I go on has a LOT of halos.
