Agent (cancelled)

Nothing is unbelievable about his story. The game doesn't seem to have gone beyond prototyping and pre-production, and especially how busy R* was with different projects in that period, Agent must've been completely ignored after full production on GTA5 kicked in.

 

Someone might be working on it somewhere on his computer at a Rockstar studio... remember that!

 

Maybe, but LA Noire was developed mainly by Team Bondi. Even though Rockstar helped out I don't think it required all their resources.

I know they were a new studio, but it's too bad Team Bondi couldn't handle their sh*t... I can't help but think that if that hadn't have happened, and the Benz was around to smooth out RDR2 (While also being kept AWAY from the online portion) that just maybe Agent would have seen the light of day.

 

R* is pretty unflinching when it comes to story and subject matter, I would have loved their take/yarn on deep government and Kennedy level state sponsored assassinations... Probably could have been pretty amazing.

The story leading up to and around the release of L.A. Noire was that Team Bondi had completely botched the development and Rockstar had to intervene in a major way.

Amongst the bad blood between Rockstar and Team Bondi on display in the emails, there's the news that the publisher will no longer be working with the Sydney-based developer. There's also claims that the game, over six years in development, was only finished after direct involvement by Rockstar.

 

"Rockstar also made a huge contribution to the development; their producers were increasingly influential over the last two years of the game's development, and overruled many of the insane decisions made by Team Bondi management," one of the source of the emails tells GI.biz.

 

"At a lower level, Rockstar also pitched in with programmers, animators, artists, QA, etc. Part of the conflict between Team Bondi and Rockstar was due to Rockstar's frustration with Team Bondi's direction, and eventually Team Bondi's management in turn resented Rockstar for taking lots of creative control."

I worked on Agent and there isn't a whole lot more to be seen other than what has already leaked.

 

"Alpine" was basically a demo of the combat and stealth mechanics while the "Desert" demo was more about ambience and sound design. Desert was much further along than Alpine with a relatively complete urban setting.

 

So what happened to Agent?

 

The short answer is that the clusterf*cks that were the development of RDR and L.A. Noire sucked all the resources out of Agent and once those titles had shipped GTA V was demanding everyone's resources.

Could you describe the combat? Was it like GTA IV/ V/ RDR or more like Max Payne 3? Was the game serious or over the top>

A little more about the levels of alpine and desert but basically nothing new (Max Payne 3)

I worked on Agent and there isn't a whole lot more to be seen other than what has already leaked.

 

"Alpine" was basically a demo of the combat and stealth mechanics while the "Desert" demo was more about ambience and sound design. Desert was much further along than Alpine with a relatively complete urban setting.

 

So what happened to Agent?

 

The short answer is that the clusterf*cks that were the development of RDR and L.A. Noire sucked all the resources out of Agent and once those titles had shipped GTA V was demanding everyone's resources.

That guy isn't lying. We know for a fact both RDR and LAN were in development hell during that time. When a game is near completion and/or having development trouble, the other Rockstar studios jump in to help. If Agent had actually made it far into development, Rockstar wouldn't have abandoned it like they did.

thats what ash means... GTA 6 is planned to be cross gen. I'd say imo RDR 2 will likely have an enhanced copy when new generation arrives.
