Omnia sunt Communia
  UPDATE: Official Site Launched  Kotaku said: The studio behind Grand Theft Auto and Manhunt is making Agent just for Sony's console, Sony announced today during the company's E3 media briefing.  A Rockstar press release followed: Rockstar founder Sam Houser described Agent as the "ultimate action game."  According to the game's press release, "Agent takes players on a paranoid journey into the world of counter-intelligence, espionage and political assassinations during the height of the Cold War at the end of the 1970s."  No other details were provided and the only visual released so far is the game's logo.  This follows up on an announcement made a couple of years ago about a coming PS3 Rockstar exclusive. Some had expected that game to be L.A. Noire, but instead it is the previously unheard of Agent.  No release date was provided for the game.  Source  Games Industry.biz said: New York, NY – June 2, 2009 - Rockstar Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), is proud to announce Agent. Developed by the people behind Grand Theft Auto, Rockstar North, Agent will be available exclusively for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system.  "We have always enjoyed making action games, and with Agent we are making what we believe will be the ultimate action game," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. "Agent is a game we have wanted to make for a long time. The team in Edinburgh is doing an amazing job combining intense action, atmosphere and story in a great period setting to create something that feels quite unique. We cannot wait for people to experience this game."  Source/Full Article   Tezdefanta, jonhyosbourne, WanteD1 and 1 other 1 1 1

gta 4 gamer
Great post Jacky Fiend. I hope R* turn this into a series exclusive to the ps3! How about that? I wish more info would be leaked already!!
geomy
All the early reports had been calling it an exclusive new 'franchise,' so it's pretty likely there will be more than one.
Omnia sunt Communia
I would like to a series that follows the spy through his career with whatever organization he is working for. Sort of like James Bond. The first game could be set in the 1970s, during the Cold War then the next game in the 1980s and then the 1990s and so on and so on. I think that would be an interesting way to keep the series alive and fresh.

Gezim
Ah, nice to see a quality topic for a (what will turn out to be) a quality game. Â Guys, can't wait for this. Rockstar North, the people who worked/work on GTA and Manhunt, no way this game will disappoint. tjawzy
According to Boomtown it will be developed by some R* team in Edinburg. The big question for me is whether this game will be developed by the team behind GTA or not. And if it is, will it mean that the next GTA gets pushed back or that the GTA series are completely finished?

Rockstar North (based in Edinburgh) were the team who develop Grand Theft Auto games, yes. However they are capable of creating more than one game at a time just like any other developer. I don't think GTA NeXt will be pushed back at all because I'm pretty sure it has been in the works for a long time already. They have done it in the past and I'm pretty sure they can do it again. General Goose
I hope R* turn this into a series exclusive to the ps3! Would it be so bad if they released it for other platforms? Yeah. In a way, exclusives, unless they are first party or are specifically tailored for a console (design wise of technical wise) annoy me. Â However, this will be one of those games I won't be able to get but will still follow. Looks pretty interesting.

Omnia sunt Communia
Maybe, but since it isn't going to happen we might as well horde all the exclusives we can.
JGJONES
I hope R* turn this into a series exclusive to the ps3! Would it be so bad if they released it for other platforms? Blu-Ray means they can fit more onto the disk and also means less compressed textures (if any) and more features, vehicles....all in high quality. Blu-Ray = Win. Â This game is obviously going to be good...it is coming from Rockstar afterall. I wouldn't worry about GTA being pushed back too far, they can develop two games at the same time. Ciabatta
I am excited for this game but is L.A. Noire a dead project? And if so do you think R* North will turn their back on Agent too, I'm actually hyped for this one.
Nightwing 0613
Let the PS3 users have this exclusive title. After all, we got both GTA4 DLC's. Hopefully after TBoGT is released, R* will announce more DLC episodes for GTA4 exclusive only on Xbox 360.
carlweathersarm
I am excited for this game but is L.A. Noire a dead project? And if so do you think R* North will turn their back on Agent too, I'm actually hyped for this one. People get LA Noire and the unknown R* North title (now known as "Agent") confused very often. R* North has never been involved with LA Noire so they never turned their back on that game. I think that's why you asked if R* North would turn it's back on "Agent"? Â LA Noire is created by Team Bondi and was originally funded by Sony. Sony dropped funding for the game and R* Games (not to be confused with R* North) picked up funding for the game. I think the indirect involment of both Sony and R* in the games history is why people confuse it with "Agent". Â The title now known as "Agent" was a deal made directly between Sony and R* North around E3 '07 for a brand new intellectual property. Since LA Noire was a known I.P. at that time it should never have been confused with "Agent". Some people even thought that Red Dead Redemption was the unkown I.P. even though it was a sequel and not a new I.P. Â I hope this answers your question or clears up any of the confusion you may have had. Â Also, can't wait for more info, screens, trailers in the future. neo92boi
I think Sony made a smart deal with Rockstar, If anything I think this is how it went down. (ALL OF THIS IS COMPLETELY HYPOTHETICAL AND COULD HAVE BEEN DONE THE OPPOSITE WAY) When the PS3 was being developed and was delayed a year and the 360 was already out R* was already in talks with Sony first way before Microsoft was. And R* said "hey we understand we have a close relationship with you and your platforms, but you must consider that we are a company who focuses on making business and we plan to do that in all facets, so you must expect us to branch to the other platforms to enhance our productivity (due to the massive amount of potential the 360 has and already has been showing) , so what shall we do to keep our relationship from falling.... :shows what they have planned for 2007-2010 and some conceptual Ideas for next gen consoles: Table TennisGTA IV & DLCMC LARDR (Concept)LA Noire (Concept) (originally funded LOL)Max Payne 3Agent (Concept)Sony agrees to R* and T2 that they would let all titles to be released on both consoles on the same date globally (IOW all titles are fair game to all platforms) in exchange for one complete EXCLUSIVE franchise only for the PS3, T2 and R* come to a mutual agreement and it is set instone. Then Months later R* contacts Microsoft and gets word of Sony's plan andMicrosoft must start where Sony left and acquires EXCLUSIVITY to GTA's DLC and Table Tennis. Â I dunno there may be many holes in this theory but its how I see. Edited June 5, 2009 by neo92boi
JOSEPH X
I think it was just the PS3 owners claiming any game info coming out of R* as being their exclusive, Carlweathersarm, Perhaps now they`ll stop crying. Haha. Â On topic, I find late seventies espionage a strange choice of subject for the "Ultimate Action Game" as Sam Houser put it. It`s difficult to know what kind of tone the game will carry, because the big espionage movies of that era were outlandish, exotic and far-fetched (Moonraker, The Eiger Sanction etc.) And there`s a reason for that, it`s because the reality was (and I`m not just plucking a word out of thin air here) sh*t. The cars were sh*t, the clothes were sh*t and the music was sh*t. The wallpaper was brown, the suits were brown, the politics was brown. In fact, the only thing that wasn`t brown was the dogsh*t, which for some reason was white. People went to the movies to get away from all that and watch Roger Moore take on Jaws in a submersible Lotus. Â So which tone is Rockstar going to set with Agent? The far-fetched movies or the grim reality? The late seventies are exactly where they belong and where they should stay - thirty years in the past. The most appealing time to set agent in would have been the sixties, Connery, Harry Palmer, Twiggy and The Stones. I just hope for PS3 owners sake they`ve not been watching a lot of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.
Grand Theft Auto Dude
Let the PS3 users have this exclusive title. After all, we got both GTA4 DLC's. Hopefully after TBoGT is released, R* will announce more DLC episodes for GTA4 exclusive only on Xbox 360. Rockstar only ever planned two DLC episodes for GTA IV (Impossible Trinity), and Microsoft only paid for two. Anything else would just be tacked on and wouldn't fit. After TBOGT, they will move onto the next GTA, they won't keep punching out DLC for an old game. Â Â But on topic, this game will be great. R* said they want to create the 'ultimate action game', so expect some free-roam from GTA and a much better weapon and cover system, as well as a powerful narrative. Tommy-Vercetti19
I'd love Free Roam. Â Â Like finding your own way to do the mission like GTA, It should have multiple choices. Â You should have a little HQ where you can keep going back after a mission for a briefing. Or to get new gear or to upgrade.
Omnia sunt Communia
I would prefer to see multiple cities, as opposed to one city we can continously roam about. Considering the fact that this is a spy game I can imagine it will take us across the world and that's exactly what I am expecting. I'd prefer to see several cities that we can free roam; maybe no larger than Bohan or Dukes/Broker in Liberty City, each.
SovietWarrior42
This sounds really good. I'm thinking Sam Fisher meets the Seventies from what they've mentioned about it.
