DLC for the PC?

The DLC will not be distributed by Steam, it will be distributed by GFWL. You just need to look at Fallout 3 to see how it works. Even those that bought the game via steam still have to buy the DLC from GFWL. It will be the same practice with the DLC for GTA 4 whether you have the retail, D2D or steam version you will still buy the DLC from GFWL.

Please don't use the "oh the Episodes of Liberty City isn't DLC so we can have that" argument, it is extremely lame and beneath PC gamers to clutch at straws like that. The contract was for the content not how it will be delivered. We will only get the DLC when MS says so or when the timed exclusivity runs out.

When either of those things happen we will get TLaD first then have to wait for TBoGT just like the Xbox users had too. We are not going to magically be given both DLC's straight away. I think we can safely say that any DLC on the PC will come with the same "amount of waiting time" that the Xbox users had to suffer.

So if I was to use my specualation cap it was a 10 month wait between GTA 4 and TLaD, then it was a 9 month wait between TLaD and BoGT. I can imagine we will have similar waits for the DLC on our beloved PC system.

well, that was the smallest (and most off topic) part of the post, but I'll explain to keep it fair. tounge.gif

Do you really think they can't keep you locked out of illegal copies of things? Of course they can... They can't stop a bootleg hard copy, but they can cut you off from the internet... Piracy is used as a way to pressure legislation "We would have made XXX amount of dollars if not for piracy! Your honor, you MUST allow us to protecttt our profits by allowing us to force upon the people cloud systems and MP3!"

They want to LOCK you out of hard-copies. If you DONT have a history book, and it's ONLY digital, they can edit it. If they don't want you to listen to something, they can discontinue it being offered as an MP3.

When they hurt you, they do it and make you love doing it without realizing it. Twitter is bad. Facebook is bad. Yet people love them. Cloud PC is BAD yet people await them. OnStar is a glorified bug, yet people LOVE it for the uses it has... You will never say "Bug my car!" but you would def go for the features in onstar... You would never say "TRACK MY EVERY MOVE!" but many love letting them on twitter, voluntarily.

You can pirate things ONLY because they want to let you - so they can say "the people can not be trusted!" That is EXACTLY what "pirating music supports Communism" MEANS, thats why they made that saying, because it's all a slow robbery of who and what we are. See? smile.gif

I hope it's understandable now, more clear this way. Kinda off topic though, maybe we can discuss the DLC instead mate.

note: to those who think I am a paranoid truth seeker: No, I am not. In fact, I'm kinda on the other side of it all.

Charlie.

The deal was for DLC. There is nothing DLC about a hard copy that says "Two Complete Games!" on the top of the box art. DLC was paid for, and will only be on microsoft platforms. Everyone else (that other console's users) is gonna need to buy a disc, because that disc is not DLC, and 50mil is NOT enough for exclusivity, they would have made a lot more if they just ignored the deal and DLC'd for everyone wink.gif

It's the same content, just not downloadable, thus not a part of the deal, basically.

they NEVER (microsoft) ever said "2 exclusive episodes" without including "DLC" in the statement. So, they were bragging about being the only company to offer the download.

And guess what? The ONLY reason they probably didn't let PS3 have the dlc was because Sony charges developers an unreasonable rate to even offer DLC. So, rockstar already probably was like "f*ck that, I'm not payin sony. I'll press a whole new game" And microsoft was like "Yea, but do it for ours and we'll give you 50mil - you pay them, or we pay you, baby"

come on...

Anyway: How does the DLC work for Fallout, shamefully I haven't even played it yet, you can shoot me the response in PM if you have a mo, cause it's off topic for me to ask that anyway tounge.gif

Oh come on supermortalhuman you are better than that, do you honestly think MS would leave a loop hole like that in the contract. The 50 mill contract was for two episodes be they downloadable, on disc or as part of a damn hamburger promotion. I believe we will see the DLC on the PC and PS3 but not because of a "loophole" we will see it because I believe this deal was a timed exclusive.

Again if I was to guesstimate I would say MS got 1 years timed exclusivity for both episodes. They may decide to release it sooner on the PC though just to piss PS3 owners a bit, but it will come to the PS3 eventually as well because exclusivity will lapse and not because of some "loophole".

The DLC for Fallout 3 basically works like this :-

  1. Buy MS points, currently 2000 ms points costs £17.00
  2. Start up the games for windows live client
  3. Log in with your details
  4. Choose the DLC and wait for it to download
  5. start your game and play the DLC

That is how I did it with my steam version of Fallout 3, I imagine it will be a similar set up with the DLC on GTA 4. Although the content is only 1600ms points you will need to buy 2000ms points to get it (yeah nice lil earner there MS with all that interest). You may be able to find retailers that will sell a special TLaD pack for the PC which is basically a piece of card with a code on you enter into the GFWL client to access the DLC.

I can see it being just a matter of timed exclusivity too. I should reiterate too for others who won't see the first post I made: it's speculation.

That's not bad, I can deal with getting the IV dlc like that if it comes downloadable on other platforms (I really don't see them ever paying sony to dlc those particular episodes on their network though, not unless they get a special rate, it's gonna have to be on a disc - I think that if anything it was timed+can only be downloaded through MS, other console, after the time limit, will need a disc. Sony probably didn't care because they press more blurays or something, I dunno)

All in spec of course.

So in the end, that would make them lying whores, and i wouln't trust anything they said ever again.

So, you are new here? Welcome.

Say what? That's 25%, how do they explain that? That's an MS tax on MS? They are the living proof that there isn't such a thing as too much or enough money.

They don't, because points that are left (in this case 400 points), you can use them later for different stuff.

I know that this is really off topic, but Charlie, can you please point me to the thread in which you wrote down how much profit the PC industry and the console industry made in 2008?(i think that was the year)

I remember you saying that the consoles made that much combined, while the PC alone made a lot of $$$. As i said this is really off, but i would appreciate it. I would need those figures now. Just the topic name would be a great help, i'll browse through it.

*EDIT* NVM, lol this is the topic, i searched the GTAIV poor pc sales, and a few other threads, should have started with this one. D'oh!

Ahh, I get it now. So they kinda force you spend more, that's OK.

Or you could buy a 1600 point card in the store or the Download card for the DLC itself in a store if you dont want leftover points.

Yeah but in my books that kinda defeats the point of the whole exercise. I love downloading stuff, I am partial to steam and think it is a great service. I love the fact I can be sat here on my arse and think "hm fancy a new game where is me credit card". Then I can just kick the ole PC into action buy my game and download it. It just seems a bit retarded to have to go into town to buy a "cardbord card" with a number on it so I have to download a game on my PC.

At the end of the day MSpoints exists because it's a "kiddie" thing. Mummy and Daddy can buy little Johnny some MS points and little Johnny can go and buy his Halo 3D avatar without ever accessing the credit card. The MS points thing have no place on the PC (but then again neither does the sh*tty GFWL). I have already dealt with MS points, I hate em no two ways about it but I will use them rather than hang around a game store full of annoying little brats.

I really think the downloadable contents are for the next upate.

1. Why did they say: the next gold master build? maybe they will include the downloadable content for free (like valve tounge.gif)

2. Why are they waiting to release the patch? Maybe they are waiting to finish Ballad of Gay tony sh*t tounge.gif

Oh. Also generally when they release a trailer for a DLC it might be already complete. The market stuff is so difficult that it may take months to get em on stores, this case, October.

Why did they say: the next gold master build?

I believe they only wanted to say that the newly printed games will be of version 1.0.4.0 by default. That's it.

This is MS and R* we are talking about. You know, money hungry whores, they would like to charge you for the nicely scented air that you inhale when it comes out of the box after you open the game case for the first time.

Heh yea I think thats why console games are 10-20 bucks more too, though I think the technical term is licensing fees.

Answering to the "bonus round" topic from the TBOGT forum... Just. Damn.

I think you're crazy taking that as proof.

It's so obvious when he says "Especially for the PS3 crowd i'll definentally pick it up" that he's making a joke of them, teasing them. Like the immature "haha i got this and you doon't hahaha".

Sure it's possible the episodes will come for at Least PC, but i just had to reply to the bonus round topic. Damn. tounge.gif

supermortalhuman could you paraphrase what was said in the video ? A lot of people are reporting the video doesn't work for them (I couldn't view it myself). So it would be of interest if you could just tell us what was said and who said it.

I think that its so unfair from Rockstars side not to give us the pc gamers a DLC, after all we are the most supportive community i mean if not thanks to us who else would play gta3 and vice city 5 years after its released we are the ones who mod it and make it look better everytime. hopefully they make a 5th patch to the pc version that adds the new features that the consoles get, otherwise ill be very dissapointed in Rockstar.

Basically, they get to talking about how $60 + 50-100 hours in IV is kinda a rip off that the episodes are $40 for about 6 to 10 hours each, but they said they will reach the market a lot more than the long hardcore core story of IV did.

Then russo comes out and says "And definitely this is worth the $40 bucks to the PS3 crowd"

and then Keighley is like "no no, it's exclusive" and in the other topic you saw others saw it as well - like, that weird different kind of "oops, I just told a secret", it was really apparent.

It's like, he slipped, it was slightly covered, and then being journalists, they left it in there - why wouldn't they edit it, right? I mean, the show is edited, so why leave a good like that with the potential to mess things up? Unlesssss it was a chance to reiterate exclusivity? Though, I highly doubt that - there would be No Reason to push $40 dollar discs to those who want the game when they can push $60 disc + DLC to the user. So, it's being pressed to a "stand alone" game in order to no longer be "downloadable content FOR GTA IV" now it's "Stand Alone" so Russo slipped up, but you will most certainly only be able to ever download it on microsoft platforms, you won't get eflc on PSN, I don't think so anyway.

This is my last post for the night I need me bed (yes CC does sleep believe it or not). Thanks for the summarising what the video said, sorry I had to close your topic though. It certainly aggravates me that certain sections of this board get their nose out of shape just because some people want to discuss the possibility that the DLC might appear on other platforms. I mean god forbid this is only a MULTI-PLATFORM board, I will keep this topic open as long as I can though.

I have my own reasons for "believing" the DLC will come to both the PC/PS3. I am not 100% sure about the video it could just be a bit of a "joke" you know to "piss" other platform owners off a bit (I don't know why the xbox crowd seem to like doing that). As you said they could have easily edited it out, so it was either a joke or they really wanted to hint that the content is coming to the PS3.

As always we are in a wait and see situation. Once TBoGT is out of the door on the 360 I don't think we will have too long to wait to hear positive news about the PC and PS3.

I think we'll get the Disc of "EFLC" in summer '10 or at last autumn. In my opinion a hardcopy disc doesn't count as DLC, cause rockstar even announces it as "Two Seperate Games".

And then, C'mon Tom Russo said something that's worth getting it for 40 for the PS3 crowd (or something like that) and all looked at him but they didn't cut that out? Sound suspicious. sarcasm.gif

Would Rockstar give some info about the Episodes and their Unexclusivity, the DLC wouldn't sell that good, because most player who can decide to have it on PC or Console would choose PC because the graphics are a lot better.

I was just wondering how people think the Episodes will be announced for PS3 and PC. Will it be given to a third party or will it just be on R* newswire?

How did they announce CTW for PSP?

Could it be done in the same way?

Please remind me why you posted in this thread?

Was it just to be a wanker or was there a deeper meaning to it?
