zeppelincheetah
IV in the logo for TLAD but not for TBOGT. Why do you think they took out IV?
OverTheBelow
Must it really matter? -_-
Kimd41
Maybe they forgot it, or removed it because of the size of the title. Doesn't really matter.
Superb
Hmm interesting point, they probably forgot of something.
nlitement
Maybe the V is an arrow that points downwards, symbolizing the cesspool that Johnny lives in. Or maybe it's because they associate bikers with drugs, and IV is short of intravenous, so they want to remove that because classy people snort cocaine and don't shoot up. stinomontana
its because you will be able to play it without having to have gta4 so its not really gta4 anymore but gta the ballad of gay tony
Enjoii
its because you will be able to play it without having to have gta4so its not really gta4 anymore but gta the ballad of gay tony Well you can do that with the Lost and Damned if you buy the disc. It is still IV, as this is simply an episodic content pack. As for it actually being left out, I wouldn't say that it holds any great significance, but who knows. GuruAskew
There's probably just some marketing research that shows that including the "IV" in the title will have a negative effect since the game will be a year-and-a-half old by the time this expansion is released. Probably something stupid like that. I don't think there's any huge significance to it.
Lavalization
looks pretty cool without IV anyway
Ruscris2
IV in the logo for TLAD but not for TBOGT. Why do you think they took out IV? Maybe because the logo is BETA ?
Mafioso86
Yeah I don't think there's any significance.... but it is a little odd, and I honestly like having the IV in there. But we'll see, as someone else mentioned the early TLAD logo didn't have the IV and then eventually they added it.
saintdave
I just wonder if the removal of the IV has any significance on the time setting. Yes we know it’s set in the GTA 4 liberty city but maybe it’s set before the events of both GTA 4 and TLAD. Could be way off but just a thought! Magic_Al
Sometimes name changes are used to get out of royalty and licensing contracts. For example, back in the mid-1990s Apple allowed other computer companies to make Mac clones, but when Steve Jobs returned from his decade absence he wanted to kill those deals, and the easy way to do it was to change the name of the software from System 7.7 to Mac OS 8 because the clone deals only licensed versions of System 7. Voila, contract void. It's like magic! Similarly, if Take Two has deals involving a "Grand Theft Auto IV series", if you don't call it IV then it's not part of the IV series. If there's anything like that going on, though, we'll probably never hear about it.
CryptReaperDorian
I made a repeat topic without noticing this one. Here is what I wrote: Does anybody know why the DLC is not called "Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony", but instead it is called "Grand Theft Auto: Ballad of Gay Tony"? Last time I checked this is a DLC pack for GTA IV and not for GTA(1). TLaD had "IV" in the title. Is it for shortening the title, or could this actually be about the size of vanilla GTA IV so its title acts as if it's a new game in a way? What do you think? This is something to probably think about.
Enjoii
As said above, the Lost and Damned didn't actually include the IV in the logo until the later stages of the game, so it's likely that the same will happen with this episode.
Slamman
Actually, first glance it looked like it was just blackened out. I find that any additions don't have to allude to the main game. Most people are aware of the DLC and that GTA4 is the latest one out. Sam Houser commented some time ago that they planned to advance GTA4 for some time, which will figure to be a few years, and I could see it obviously possible to keep expansion packs going upon a release of GTA5 for example. They may only be limited by ideas in that regard, and would most likely then have to make it clear about which GTA the DLC is aimed at. At this time, the need doesn't exist. We know it's not for Nintendo DS!
WhiteRex
GTA vice city was also like DLC for GTA3, but GTAvc didnt have ''3'' in title, smae with other GTA3 era games. maybe htey did it same with this new one?
The Notorious MOB
GTA vice city was also like DLC for GTA3, but GTAvc didnt have ''3'' in title, smae with other GTA3 era games. maybe htey did it same with this new one? The Difference with that though is that they weren't expansion packs as the were stand alone games with there own time frames and cities. So although they were GTA III era games they were tottally different that's why they didn't put "3" in those titles. The thing with these DLCs is that they take place in the same city and timeframe and feature many of the same characters so they are essentially expansion packs. I'd say that it's just a Beta Logo and they will add the IV in at a later stage.
Magic_Al
Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories are better comparisons. Being released standalone on disc makes the comparison even better. After TBOGT I'd expect Rockstar North to move on. The two episodes were planned from the beginning with Niko's story, so doing another one in the same time and place might feel tacked on. Changing the timeframe as in Stories games would require creating a lot more media, but not as much as changing the city. If it's going to take R* North more than a year to create the "next" GTA, perhaps other R* studios could make some more, less connected Liberty City episodes in the meantime. Not a bad idea. There are so many angles you could approach Liberty city... they've done the imagrant rags to riches angle, the bad ass biker gang self destruction, and now they're releasing the bodyguard/high end night life (possible) riches to rags angle... but there are countless variations available in a city designed like liberty city... so many locations and different neghbourhoods that you could literally throw a dart at the map and come up with a story/character that revolved around that particular area... I wouldn't be surprised to see a new "liberty city stories" in the futre.
Slamman
Getting away from the topic, aren't we? The various R* studios are assigned to systems, in a way, The factor there is area of expertise, I believe
GTA_dog
...Maybe The Battle of Gay Tony is the next GTA? No! I'm guessing the "IV" will be in the title as soon as some pictures are released and information as well.
Leo Colt
I'm going to agree with the hypothesis that it was removed because this will be the first DLC to not require GTA IV to play from release. Also, they may well add it later, but I think it's because of the standalone release with TLAD.
Grand Theft Auto Dude
I noticed it too, my guess is it is still (sort of) early in development, and the logo just hasn't been finished yet (Like with TLAD). It doesn't mean it's going to be as big as GTA IV.
FelipeVinhao
I dunno, maybe the "IV" was too black for a so-colorful title... Now seriously maybe it's the similar situation of GTA3 and then GTAVC and GTASA. Maybe because of this, next GTA game won't be called GTA <name of city here>, but GTA5. Just thoughts...
