GuruAskew
So I've been trying to narrow down when this game will be released. When "The Lost and Damned" was announced we knew a release date on day 1. Rockstar announced this will be a Q4 release and many places (including the super-reliable and practically-infallible Wikipedia) are reporting that this is November 1 2009-January 30-2010. Video game "expert" Michael Pachter has also used his industry expertise to predict this date range as well. The problem? Rockstar's Fiscal Q4 is August 1, 2009 - October 31 2009. If you actually look at Rockstar's Fiscal statements you'll see this. But we can't expect Expert Michael Pachter to use publicly-available documents to make his predictions. Furthermore, Kotaku.com reported that they were told that the then-unnamed "Ballad of Gay Tony" would be available "before Halloween" at the "Lost and Damned" presser. That was in February and it fits PERFECTLY with Rockstar's REAL Q4. It's absolutely on-the-nose. So yeah. We're getting the game earlier than a lot of "credible" sources are reporting. andysniper
i can actually see this being the likely time, and youve put your research in to make this quite a credible statement.
GuruAskew
Yeah all the August-October stuff comes straight from Rockstar and all the stuff that suggests November-January comes from outside sources and can easily be attributed to misinterpretation. I just love how Michael Pachter can be so wrong. This is the guy who said Microsoft's $50 million was a "loan".
CookPassBabtridge
So Pachter was out by a day. Lock the scoundrel up
Enjoii
I believe that it was announced a while ago that the second episode would be available before Halloween.
Magic_Al
And with that fiscal year in mind, the timing of the press release announcing TBOGT falls just ahead of the end of Take Two's 2nd quarter. Perhaps it will boost their quarterly results by generating some GTA IV sales. The real reason for not waiting till E3 is probably because this year it is June 2-4, earlier than the last two years, and companies are required to have a "quiet period" in which they do not try to make news that would influence investors between the end of a fiscal quarter and the announcement of financial results weeks later. Announcing TBOGT at E3, days after the end of the quarter, might have violated the quiet period rules.
GuruAskew
So Pachter was out by a day. Lock the scoundrel up No. There's actually a huge difference between August 1 and January 31. I'm pretty sure it's more than a day. Ultimately it could be a 1-day difference or a 6-month difference but the point is, we wouldn't be talking about ANY difference if Pachter actually got it right. But that's just too much to ask of an expert. Edited May 27, 2009 by GuruAskew
CookPassBabtridge
Rockstar announced a fall release, so its going to be in the region of October-November. Im sure Pachter and whoever else doesnt think it will be August or Jan. Guru just chill out with this stuff man, you will give yourself a hernia. Its not often you talk about the GTA games themselves, its always the 50mil thing (which much of the time I agree with you on). As for Pachter, no doubt he can talk some sh*t, but his theories on the DLC really arent that outlandish
