Honestly, the only reason I would be annoyed is if Gay Tony had an irritating overly camp voice or behavior. But that has nothing to do with being gay, if someone had an annoying voice, it's usual for them to be annoying too. As for being camp, it's not a problem until it gets over the top, and then it's just stupid. But if someone was acting like an idiot, camp or not, you'd be annoyed wouldn't you?

 

Either way, I'm interested in playing the game, my main concern being I don't want to save over any more of the missions on my load file. Oh well, I'll have to make do.

It'd be the opposite for me. It wouldn't annoy me if you couldn't tell Gay Tony was homosexual, but from what we've seen on Bernie Crane, Rockstar nail stereotypes and are often tasteful with the humour following them.

They don't want to be associated with a game with the word 'gay' in the title because, as well al know, doing that automatically makes you a homosexual. I just hope it doesn't lead to widespread homophobia on this board. I've already seen quite a lot of it and I can see this episode bringing it light more.

I'll just reiterate what I have already said in a couple of other threads: Legally, R* can't be touched. Anyone who would speak out against the title would be swept aside as a homophobe and a bigot.

 

And taking a step away from the game for a second, just for those who say homosexuality is wrong and unnatural, and in the same breath say they are not religious: Why is it "wrong"? If it's not because of what your religion says, then why is it wrong?

 

And how can it be unnatural, when it occurs in within nature? Within our own species, and others.

 

Back on topic: I'm glad R* made this move. Maybe it will adversely affect sales, but not to an extent that R* will really care. It's just DLC and not a whole new game anyway. The joke here, is on those who would turn down a great game because it says gay in rainbow writing on the cover. I think that's great.

Another reason it was quite a clever technique used. There is bound to be controversy over the title and the fact that the game is so based around working for Gay Tony, but anybody who opposes to this will be, as you say, swept aside as a homophobe.

Very good point. Sure, it didn't have anything derogatory in the title to suggest the lead character was black but this changes nothing. If they were to release a third episode and call it "The Misdoings Of "Chubby" Charlie Matteo", would that get stick for having a fat man in the title? Not if you had sense.

I think this is a good move by Rockstar. Remember, controversy has always been good for them. The f*ck would I want to play the panzy game that the Catholic Church gives a thumbs up? I want to play the game that has been discredited by puritans for excessive violence and ridiculously deviant sexual references. Anybody who is going to buy the game would likley have already played GTAIV, and if they did, they would buy this game regardless. And it's not like any non-fan Christian fundamentalists would actively succeed in banning the game - because all Rockstar have to do it cry discrimination against homosexuals and they'll have the entire audience of The View behind them!

 

As for gay rights adocates, I doubt any of them wouold be too concerned. Rockstar has always been somewhat classy in people they make fun of. I doubt we're going to see an abundance of anal sex and AIDS jokes. Rockstar is far above such South Park-esque humour. They're into jokes and satire that is much less blatant and in your face. They ain't like Saints Row--Freckle Bitches? Try some subtlety.

 

I'd wager that The Lost and Damned didn't sell that well, mostly due to promotion issues, and people who couldn't connect to X Box live. Aergo, they're releasing both the DLCs on disk and getting free advertising space for the this pack, via the colourful title. I wonder how many people who wouldn't have heard of the game otherwise will pick it up after seeing some personalities on TV saying "these games today are not only violent, but they promote amoral, sexually deviant and anti-Christian agendas; consider for instance, Grand Theft Auto: The Ballad of GAY Tony, which implies the sexually deviant act of getting your fudge packed is okay, and something we should accept in society. These amoral bastards are daring to erroneously suggest we should get out of other peoples' sex lives!"

What I'm saying is, because of the potential loss of sales due to the name, Rockstar have covered their back by offering a good deal, and selling everything together. This is more likely to persuade the narrow-minded, who wouldn't buy Ep 2 on its own because of the name, to pick it up in a deal and actually play it, thus maintaining a high level of sale.

 

They've already made their money through Microsoft anyway, so whatever they sell in stores is a bonus.

I'd guess that disk sales will still come under the contract that take two and microsoft have for the content, eg that take two will only make money on it once sales have gone over a certain amount. Otherwise microsoft is just giving up on their own profit, and somehow I can't see micro$oft doing that without a huge legal battle!
