mike752
It seems like the launch 360s, minus a few of them, lasted about a year tops, while the launch PS3s only last a couple years longer. I would rather have it break down earlier, so that there may be a chance that it is still in warranty. I hope Sony realizes this problem and gives all PS3s extended warranties like Microsoft did with the 360s.
foohy
I bought my 60gb in summer 2007 and it YLOD'd a few weeks ago. Called up SONY and they gave me a choice between getting mine fixed or getting a new slim for $20 less. I went with the slim. Box got here in 3 days. Got my replacement about a week after sending mine off. It was all very easy unlike dealing with microsoft. I was at my friend's house when his RROD'd and he must have been on the phone for over an hour! And the console took over a month round trip. I am a little disappointed that I can no longer play PS2 games but I never really did anyway. I was going to find my old copy of Just Cause 2 and play it right around the time it happened but oh well. No big deal. It would be nice to have the feature back in the future tho. You said 360s are almost guaranteed to fail, looks like ps3 are almost guaranteed to fail. I had a 60GB ps3 and that got the YLOD then Sony give me a brand new 80GB ps3 and the hard drive corrupted. I was so pissed off Everything is guaranteed to fail one day! PS3 just seems a hell of a lot more durable that the 360. I'm not trying to bash the 360 here because it's a great console -- really is! But I know two people that have had theirs RROD even though they were kept dust free and in an open area. I know two people whose PS3s have broken down: mine and my brother's. His was kept inside an entertainment center with the vents completely blocked and it lasted over a year like that before it went belly-up. I've had mine for 2 1/2 years and it only YLOD'd when I got lazy and neglected to clean the dust out for a few weeks...and there was a lot of dust. --------------- @DneroJohnson: Call up SONY and set up a replacement/fix! *MURDOC*
Well, my PS3 just yellow-lighted... again. Such bullsh*t. What do you mean again? Did you try to fix it and this happened? Or is this your 2nd PS3 that this happened to? 3rd time actually. @dnero, looks like you have to wave goodbye to your saves unfortunately.

Cilogy
Have had my Xbox 360 since summer 2008 ... no problems yet, except the often appearance of noobs online. I'm ridin' high muthaf*cka!

I have lots of stuff in there... You can keep the hard drive if you're just getting a repair. But if you decide to trade it in for a slim you have to send it to them. Though once your PS3 died you lost all the data on that HDD. If you try to put that HDD into another PS3 or connect it to a computer via a USB it automatically formats. I traded mine in and lost everything but I'm not sure what would happen if you got it repaired instead. A repair might mean they will back up the data for you. I doubt it but you can call and ask. The lady I talked to was very nice and helpful and I only had to hold for 2-3 minutes.

meta187
My 360 RROD'd a little over a year ago. It had always flashed RED whenever the HD/AV cables weren't connected correctly but it worked well and endured a lot of gaming. It lasted me about 2 years before the RROD quite suddenly went permanant. Eventually, I bought a brand new Core system for $200, got some free games and an extra controller, used my old harddrive and kept rollin'. ~ Studio: Q-13 Lounge / Q:13 Warrior Tunes / Interweb Chex Mix, yo.~

You can keep the hdd while your ps3 is being fixed but i dont know if you will still have your data when you put it into the repaired console. i would imagine that it would still be there seeing as its the same console but id ask sony just to be sure. also, just my 2 cents, id go for the trade -in unles you have some really important stuff on there. ----- sorry for the crappy writing. wrote this using my psp... ViceCity09
I had the f*cking red ring of death, then I turned it off and could play again. This continued for a few days but I just had it again and now it won't come back, is this normal and where in UK can I get it repaired? Thanks. Of course its normal for you to get RROD and then the next day it may be working for a couple hours before it bites the dust again. You'd probably have to google to actually find out your nearest local place that fixes them. Although I think from what my friend pulled up there's some place in the UK that repairs them for about £50-60, but that doesn't include the extra £20 you'd need to send it in the post. Starion
Am I the only one here who's never had the RROD, even though I've got a 2006 console? I take that back, the old girl red ringed today. I've already ordered a repair kit though, so all is well. I'll just play on my spare one for now. mod it with Nitrous Oxide and chassis dyno. james227uk
That's four years though. Very good for those old chips in the first 360s
Starion
Yeah, I'm not dissapointed in how reliable it's been, that console's been really used and abused. Didn't the early 360's have a one in three failure rate or something? It's certainly beat the odds if that's the case. mod it with Nitrous Oxide and chassis dyno. No, I took it to a repair shop in London and got it fixed for £80. It was my only option. Apparently my warranty had expired and I could replace it for the princely sum of £130. GTA3Freak-2001
My 360's finally bitten the dust after its extension on life with the DIY RROD X-clamp fix last year, its given me a good 5 or 6 months of mostly trouble free gaming after first getting RROD so I can hardly complain I guess.
