Reconite
Can we all just calm the f*ck down? This thread is for discussing RROD and YLOD, not for fanboy console wars (which I despise greatly). Seriously guys, chill out. See this??? Don't need this thread turning into what that could have been. Edited February 18, 2010 by Reconite
RomanViking
Okay Mr "Proud to own an Xbox 360 Elite" , I will tell you, I have owned 2 Xbox 360s, and both of them died. I'm not a PS3 fanboy, but it is a fact that a higher percentage of Xbox 360s have hardware problems compared to any other major console, even going back a couple generations Also, Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition is buggy as hell on PS3. (normal version is good tho) PS3 also doesn't allow music to be played in the background for every game, unlike 360 where music can be played during any game. A fanboy would be impervious to any criticism of their chosen console, or they'd go out of their way to justify it. (Such as denying high failure rates.) Fanboys also have custom titles such as "proud owner of Xbox 360 leet" Like it's a status symbol to have a 360 that hasn't died "Oh I take such good care of my 360 by playing it for 6 hours a day! Oh, what's this? YOUR console died after 3 months of light use? You shoulda gotten 1337!" "they haz Falcon chips and doesn't afraid of hotness" Speaking of which, Elite Xbox 360s made very recently are supposedly more reliable due to some new chip. Hopefully Microsoft altered the console components, and more importantly genuine improvements were made.
james227uk
Okay Mr "Addams", You've owned 2 360s and the've both died? How sad. No-one even feels sorry for you. Look after them. I know plenty of friends that still have 2006 launch models. Why have they still got them? They took extra good care of them Did I deny such failures? No. I didn't. But there's you a few posts back practically saying the PS3 is superior to any console out there. It has failures. Wow. Send it in, 1-6 weeks later you have a revamped motherboard which is better designed against RROD Definition of a fanboy: Someone who thinks their console is superior, and makes remarks about how their system is better than another Is my title making remarks about the PS3? No, it isn't. It's simply showing I have the top model. It's nothing to do with having a 360 that hasn't RROD. I'm just proud that I own a version which many can't afford. And I'm also not sh*tting all over this topic with posts non stop about how the console is poor designed. You're the one fanboying, not only slagging of the 360 with RROD and "cheap" parts, but also slagging of the Wii saying it's not even more advanced that a Gamecube Please consider your knowledge too. ANY new 360 will include a new chip. Also, all this sh*t about "it has falcon chip". Jasper is the newest Can't wait for the Valhalla motherboard to come out. Let's see PS3 fanboy's arguements then. Bring this to PM if you want to continue. I'm just not prepared to keep replying to a fanboy troll in public, because it's clogging up this topic @Pat Always the same isn't it? First thing that comes up from a PS3 user slagging the 360 is the RROD. Or in "Addams" case here, the "cheap parts" @Reconite I'm not fanboying, I'm just simply trying to put the nail to it's coffin Edited February 18, 2010 by james227uk
macorules94
You guys finished? Good. I don't want this topic to get locked. I know plenty of friends that still have 2006 launch models. Why have they still got them? They took extra good care of them I thought RRoD was just random and there's nothing you could do, because there are people who take extra good care of them, and get it, and there are people who play it 24/7 in the heat and still haven't gotten it
Useless Dave
Really? My brother in law has had a launch console since it was released, plays everyday, and he hasn't had a single problem. blah blah blah PS3 being the only decent console? I wouldn't say that. There aren't any games out for it. Only movies. TEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE The Wii is great for parties. 360 is great for multiplayer too. And I don't know of any PC gamers that get screwed over. Please think before you post in the future, it only takes a few seconds at max, and will benefit the forum greatly. Oh your brother in law huh? Considering everyone I know who has a 360 has gotten RRoD, and it's a widely experienced problem everywhere, I'd say your example of your brother in law not getting it is a remarkable exception --- but not representative of the average 360 owner, who is almost guaranteed to suffer a hardware failure. In 10 years nobody will be able to play Xbox 360. All of them will be broken, and Microsoft won't fix them anymore. My SNES, N64, Gamecube, PS1 & 2 still work years later. Xbox 360s don't last --- they break and need repairs. Why is it that 360 overheats and dies, while PS3s of equally powerful processing power rarely do? The cooling systems, the x clamps, thermal paste - whatever, are cheaply made. The cooling system in Xbox 360 is not effective enough for a system as powerful as Xbox 360. Or maybe it's something else, or a dozen other hardware problems --- I don't really know. The point is, PS3s rarely fail, Xbox 360s are almost guaranteed to fail. And the Wii is no more advanced than Gamecube. Motion controls don't equal a new generation, especially when the games are simplistic and last gen in every way. It's not as if Nintendo invented virtual reality! They just created motion controls that do the same thing analog sticks (or computer mouses) do. And PS3 has lots of games. Only game I can't personally own is Alan Wake and Splinter Cell Conviction, every other game I actually want is multiplatform. Mafia II, Kane & Lynch II, Fallout New Vegas, Red Dead Redemption. Oh, and this post is becoming a console war post - so moderators, forgive me. Useless Dave is annoying me. And he has a tendency to be all like "here's a tip, think next time" and generally insulting people's opinions and masking it as friendly advice. But yeah, more on topic, Xbox 360s have too many hardware failures for my liking. Only thing I can tell the victims of RRoD, send it to Microsoft. YLOD, send it to Sony. PS3 has no games. Meaning exclusive games. Maybe exclusive movies but not games. TEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE But you forget, the Wii is not trying to be all hrdc0r3 l0l, it's catering towards the casual gamers and does a damn good job doing so. So did the Gamecube. Shut-ins may not get a lot of play out of them. My brother in law actually takes care of his 360. Much like everything else you don't want to break down/die. You don't expect to have a child, leave it unattended in a hot van, and have it magically take care of itself, do you? The same goes for machines. You take care of your PC. You take care of your TV. Why not take care of your console? You do seem to be quite the fanboy with your PS3-humping. Have you taken into fact that when 360s break down, nothing is lost and can be repaired, yet with a PS3, when it dies, you lose all of your saves and such? At least, last time I checked, anyway, there might be an online retrieval way or something by now. The fact is; machines break down. I've seen many people with broken PS2s, Gamecubes, Xboxs, and the such. It is not just an Xbox 360 thing to break down after a while of being mishandled. I'm not bashing the PS3 by any way shape or form. It's a good console in its own right. It just comes down to personal preference what you like. But again, another tip for RomanViking. Think. That's all you have to do.

Reconite
And the Wii is no more advanced than Gamecube. That's bullsh*t. It has more powerful hardware than the Xbox 1, it's just hardly ever utilized because of all the lazy developers for the Wii. Last generation's hardware went: Xbox > Gamecube > PS2 > Dreamcast But you forget, the Wii is not trying to be all hrdc0r3 l0l, it's catering towards the casual gamers and does a damn good job doing so. So did the Gamecube. Wii - Yes, mostly. Gamecube - No. If I recall correctly, there was no "Cooking Mama" or "Gamecube Sports" on the GC, last generation's shovelware and casual games were all shoved onto the most popular console - the PS2. But the PS2's amount of mature games balanced that out. And everyone please STFU and stop lying about consoles to get the upper hand. And I'll say it again, this isn't a console wars thread. Rebel
Which is the most reliable xbox 360 model? From what people have said, the newer models that are on sale have apparently the lower rate of RROD/other errors. The Jasper model I think its called? Although I think you only find out what model you have by the time you've bought it and are taking it out of the box to find out. Although only having used older models myself its pretty much down to luck if you get your 360 dying on you or not. Not to mention you'll be getting covered if it does bugger up at the end of the day.

Rebel
I'm getting a preowned Arcade hopefully getting it over the weekend. Reason being is, I hopefully wont even be in the country by middle March/end of it. So I don't see the point of shelling out £130+ for a normal Xbox. Not to mention my 360 being repaired by a friend now isn't going as fast as needs be, so I'll basically be putting my HDD right onto the Arcade version. Since a mate works at a store who sells them, I'll be getting it for about £70 at the end of the day, and splitting it as well so I'll be paying half. This is so f*cked up, I was only booting it up and started playing FIFA 10... then suddenly it freezes for 2 sec the it goes black screen on me. Red light's flashing and it stopped when I touch it, but when I touch it again, there's a yellow light lighted up for 3-4 mili second? It goes back to the flashing red lights... and my FIFA 10 disk is still in there...
