I had the absolute pleasure of seeing Blade Runner in a packed cinema over Christmas.

Has to be one of my all time favourites...

Love em both but I can't watch Platoon nearly as much as Blade Runner. It just demolishes it in every way and to this day I still think the special effects hold up.

"It's too bad she won't live, but then again who does?"

Don't even get me started on the awesome Vangelis soundtrack.

Blade Runner by a mile. Definitely one of Ford's best roles. Platoon is alright, but there are better 'Nam flicks.

Total opposite here.

Blade Runner was great, it really was. I prefer Platoon, mainly for reasons ive stated before that it was a big film for my generation, always loved it.

And that is why you fail!

Platoon. Because it's not set in the future.

I can't be the only one who does not relate, in any way, to this constant sci-fi bollocks that Hollywood feeds us?

But Platoon had amazingly good performances and didn't resort to the nonsensical gibberish that ruined Apocalypse Now.

What stands out to me is the brutality and senselessness. Nowhere better seen than that poor cripple getting his head caved in. I always feel bad when watching that, it's depressingly believable.

You can't honestly say Blade Runner is sci-fi Hollywood bollocks.

Have you even f*cking seen it? It looks like you're just trying to stir up sh*t to me.

I voted for Blade Runner because it's just so beautiful, every scene is just a joy to watch. The ending on the rooftop with all the rain pouring down is just sublime, topped off with the tears in rain speech by Batty.

So you CAN relate to being in the jungles of Vietnam?

No dough this post will get questions and and maybe even some fighting.

Why do you presume I'm trolling?

I've clearly stated my opinion on the matter and actually explained why I like Platoon more. If you want to get upset it only shows that you are the kind of person who would blow a gasket over something so trivial as a movie.

Frankly I'm a little sick of your attitude.

I don't like science fiction, I don't like science fiction movies. I watched Blade Runner, I gave it a fair chance despite my prior feelings towards the genre and I still didn't like it.

There. That's diplomatic enough for you? dozingoff.gif

So you CAN relate to being in the jungles of Vietnam?

Can I relate to war? An ageless human construct? As opposed to replicants?

I don't care if you like Platoon more - that's the whole point of polls, but anyone with half a brain can realise that Blade Runner isn't just another Hollywood sci-fi flick.

Surely even if you don't like it, you can at least recognise why so many people do. It's a modern masterpiece.

Artistically speaking, yes.

It looks stunning. Especially considering the time it was made. And I can certainly understand why people like the film, especially when one considers the deep questions it asks about the nature of humanity. What makes a man a man? I think a lot of people muse on that issue. And it reflects a public shift towards individual spiritual awareness rather than organised religious affiliations.

To look within yourself and see what you find. I think that appeals to a lot of people.

There was a lot more to Blade Runner than 'sci-fi bollocks' (not targeting you, Typhus - making a point). It's a shame some of you can't see that.

Blade Runnner is a masterpiece, while Platoon is a midsummer wank in the park.

You think so?

Did you not like Dafoe's performance? smile.gif

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die

Blade Runner, it's an abosolutley beautifully constructed movie.

f*ck, still haven't seen Blade Runner.

But...even though Apocalypse Now rapes the sh*t out of all other 'Nam flicks, it'd be hard to vote over Platoon.

99.999801% sure I'm voting for Blade Runner, but I'm going to give Platoon another viewing today just to be sure.

Voted for Blade Runner, but it wasn't a easy decision.

Blade Runner is one of those films you don't get at first, but upon the second (and subsequent) viewing(s), you notice its sheer brilliance. Visually stunning, great performances by all, especially Rutger Hauer and Harrison Ford, enchanting score by Vangelis, and masterfully written.

"If only you could see what I've seen through your eyes"

Platoon is also a great film, but Blade Runner is more appealing.

I enjoyed Platoon. It's a sincere, fairly sharp Vietnam war movie but for me, it just didn't make the grand impact that some of the other nam movies out there have.

Blade Runner on the other hand is utterly fantastic - setting trends before Platoon was peeling spuds in basic.

I'd vote for The Deer Hunter ove AN, to be honest. All I'm sure I'll be killed by an angry widowmaker in a huey.

And I'm back.

While I've never been a fan of Oliver Stone's work, Platoon certainly is one of his better films if not his best. But ultimately, I find the other Nam films in this competition more enthralling overall.

Blade Runner is a true masterpiece, a sci-fi film like no other and made in a time when artisitic integrity never had to take a backseat to shoddy CGI effects.
