Ziggy455
So i've been playing the Lost and Damned for a while now, i'm kinda getting into the whole Biker era thing. Well i've been watching a new show called Son's of Anarchy, it reminds me alot of Lost and Damned, It's about a biker gang entitled, yept you guessed it...Sons of Anarchy who work for a higher organisation such as the Mafia, Much like in L&D, Also the sub plot is that The president wants to handle things with bloodshed while the Vice President wants to handle situations peacefully and keep things under control, Much like Billy and Johnnys scenarios. Better yet the Vice president "Jax's" girlfriend is a junkie, ALSO much like Johnny's. It's like GTA rolled into a show really, you should check it out if you enjoyed the game. I love it and it's really good. Theres alot of comparisons, it's usually on Bravo in england where i am. Comment Edit: Can this be moved to the Lost and Damned Discussion please? Thanks, i didn't know i posted here by accident hehe Edited May 24, 2009 by Ziggy455 "I might have laughed if I'd have remembered how."

Chunk
Yeah, there's some similarities. Though, sorry to burst your bubble here mate, there've has been 2 other topics about this before. Link #1 Link #
Guanxi
Yeah I thought that when TLAD first came out. The jackets and name-tags are very similar, but other than that there isn't any real relationship between SOA and TLAD as far as I can tell in terms of story-line or characters. I guess the Housers or the art-design people saw that show and used it as one of the reference points for the club house and character re/modeling, etc.
Astrixone
Maybe one day we will find out billy is johnny's father XD its actualy make sense, the president, billy is old man like clay and johnny is young and cool like jacks XD
John the Revelator
The Sons of Anarchy don't work for anyone; they work WITH one organization, the RIRA in Ireland, which is only to acquire weaponry to use and sell. If you want to say one is like the other, it's the other way around; The Lost and Damned is like Sons of Anarchy. SOA came out a long time before TLAD, and may have even begun before GTA IV itself, though I'm not entirely sure. SOA is good, except for Jax, who's a horrible character. The way he walks, talks, and dresses speak volumes of a man who wishes he was black and not white.

ChrisMathers3501
I knew there were similarities with SOA before TLAD came out, but after having played TLAD and watched the 1st season of SOA, I've noticed even more similarities. -Johnny, like Jax, lives in the gang's clubhouse. -Johnny, like Jax, wants to take the gang in a more peaceful direction. -Johnny, like Jax, has complicated relationships with two women - Ashley, like Wendy, is a junkie, and Leila, like Tara, seems kinda on-again, off-again. -Billy, like Clay, is more violent than the vice president. -Brian, like Kyle, was no longer welcome among the gang. -Grossman, like Rosen, is a lawyer with the club. He's also a prospect, like Half-Sack. -The Lost have a rivalry with the Angels of Death, like the Sons have one with the Nords, only more violent - and the AOD is a biker gang. -The Lost are allies with the Uptown Riders, like the Sons are with the One Niners, only more friendly - and the Uptown Riders are a biker gang. ChrisMathers3501
Thanks, Ziggy. In fact, I just thought of another one. Both the Sons of Anarchy and the Lost were founded by Vietnam veterans. -The Sons of Anarchy MC was founded by John Teller, Piney Winston, Clay Morrow and six others called the First 9, who had a patch to that effect - Jax finds a bunch of pictures of his dad, some of which were taken in Vietnam. -It was 1964 when eight US Marines met in Hanoi. They bonded over a love of hookers, horse, motorcycles, and eighty sixin' Charlie. The boys couldn't figure what to do when the napalm ran out and it was time to haul ass out the jungle. Until, that is, one of 'em had the bright idea of startin' a motorcycle club. Thinkin' about all the brothers they'd sent home in bags, they called it The Lost. Also, Clay was in the Army and Jim was in the Marine Corps, but it didn't say anything about them ever being in 'Nam.

John The Grudge
They're both about Outlaw MCs so similarities are inevitable. I suppose Clay and Billy are fairly similair characters in that they both love the outlaw life. Clay is not as stupid as Billy though. I'm not sure that Jax and Johnny are similair though. Jax, particularly after reading his father's memoirs, wants the club to stop all the gun running and stuff and go back to it's anarchist roots. Being about freedom and not criminal enterprise. Johnny on the other hand has no problem with the criminal side of things, he just isn't wreckless like Billy is. In fact I think Johnny has more in common with Clay. Ron Perlman rocks in SOA. It's an excellent show. It's also cool to see a Scotsman in it. Edited June 18, 2009 by John The Grudge

Johnny and Jax have the same reasons for being on opposite sides of the gunrunning issue: Johnny wants business to keep the peace with the AOD so business can continue and they can put food on their plates - Jax wants the business to stop because it's attracting too much violence and attention from the Mayans, Niners, Nords, ATF and Hale. For the good of the club basically. Both characters are the voice of reason to the President.

For the good of the club basically. Both characters are the voice of reason to the President. Jax is a bit more complex than Johnny. The name of the club, Sons Of Anarchy, suggests that at one time it wasn't just about crime and money. It was about being free from government and state, rebelling against authority and social norms. Anarchism in other words. I don't think Johnny is that deep. He's just concerned with him or his friends getting killed or caught. Other than that he's a cold blooded criminal through and through. If he was VP under Clay I think he'd be perfectly content.
ChrisMathers3501
Well, you got that right. I wasn't saying Johnny was a deep and complex character like Jax, I was just saying they were both good guys concerned with the welfare of their MC, while their leaders were more hard-nosed and violent - but in that regard Clay's not such a bad guy, but Billy is a total asshole. Johnny would have gotten along famously with Clay, but Jax and Billy would have been at odds and trying to kill each other from day one. ...Oh, and another thing! The Nords and the AOD are racist pricks...but at the same time neither gang is 100% committed to their racist ideology. For one the Nords deal with the Mayans when it suits them and are more concerned with their meth trade than with white power. And the AOD claim to not have a policy of discrimination, "it's just that so far only white men have passed the tests." They also had Madd Dogg and OG Loc on their jukebox. I read Hunter S Thompson's Hells Angels book and he said that the Hells Angels were technically racist in that only white people could ever become full members. However he knew a black guy that often rode with the chapter he hung out with. They also got allong fine with a local black club. So like you say they have racist policies but the members themselves are not necessarily racist.

Ash_735
I know this thread is old but I've been a fan of this show for a long time, started watching it after The Lost and Damned was announced because a few people pointed out how similar it could be and funnily enough it was in some ways. But yeah, I'm a fan of SAMCRO and can't wait for Season 2!
