Slamman
High light threads in the rock genre don't get much love 'round here, but I happened to be Walkman listening and some recorded DOKKEN came on, I feel the importance of this band warrants a visit. The classic lineup has shifted, but Don Dokken keeps re-appearing from time to time. Along with Aerosmith and Def Leppard, Don has been one of the best 'clean' vocal singers in all of rock and metal. It's why not only does George Lynch have cred as a guitar player up and down the board, the more subdued ballad stylings that DOKKEN bring to hard rock, ranks up to Queensrhyche, Whitesnake, Scorpions, and Leppard in terms of bands that transcend mere one trick pony rock and roll machines. I'd first seen them live in the late 1980s, near the peak of their career, they then played alongside Metallica, Scorpions and Van Halen, summer of 1988's Monsters of Rock. FANTASTIC. The show was heaven, even though, with a headache, it was also hell for me. Dokken has lived in the shadow of Lynch/Lynchmob, ever since there was some personal factors driving a wedge between the two. The band has not been able to come back to former glory, but their recorded work speaks for itself... Tooth and Nail. Burnin' Like a Flame. Having Dokken get on the GTA soundtrack was truly a worthy move from Rockstar
*MURDOC*
My sister used to have a denim jacket with Dokken painted on the back. f*ckin' dork.
Slamman
Breakin The Chains maybe a silly video, but I loved it. Of course, fans of Freddy can't forget DREAM WARRIORS!

Zyo
name more than 1 song by Scorpions other than "rock you like a hurricane." Wind of change. That song was a real pain in the arse in the early 90s. Sad to see Def Leppard being labeled a one trick pony...... Slamman
I disagree whole-heartedly. I was reading Circus magazine almost religiously in the 1980s, bands like Motley Crue, Scorpions, and Def Leppard got press month after month. Ratt as well. I feel you can certainly go beyond one-hit-wonder status, even those two songs by Scorpions. If you're a rock fan. I have to state this, when I was out shopping the past week, I was in the isle of Cub Foods, a guy walks past singing Rock You Like a Hurricane, and it was a bit of a surprise, but he was looking at my World Wide Live concert shirt I was wearing. I had to laugh, but didn't know HOW to respond to that. Don Dokken played guitar in the band before Lynch, and I always thought he should take it up again when Lynch fell out of the band. If you can, I believe the George Lynch instructional tape is in the Star Licks series, back in VHS days.... check it out for some interesting stuff
Tyla
It was VCS that got me listening to Dokken in the first place. I'd been listening to Motley Crue, Quiet Riot, Ratt and Twisted Sister since V-Rock in Vice City, but Breaking the chains made me look up more tracks from Dokken, as well as many others from the VCS V-Rock playlist. "Lightning Strikes Again", "Into the Fire", "Turn on the action" and "Just got Lucky" have got to be my favorites alongside Breaking the chains itself. Slamman
They have a short form video comp out, with some funny interviews. Wild Mick Brown. One Acoustic Night is such an awesome video, I recommend it to EVERYONE. George Lynch takes part and they play semi-acoustic, so there is electric guitar on it, but all songs are played mostly on acoustic outside of Lynch. Paul Stanley of KISS once said if a song is crappy as an acoustic song, it's just a bad song (in taking an electric one down to nuts and bolts acoustic)

I'm not a fan but I'll crank up a couple of their songs at times when I'm in the mood for 80's cock rock. Queensryche should not be mentioned among bands like Whitesnake, Dokken and Def Leppard though because they are way f*cking better than all those bands combined and aren't really like any of them. Wind of Change, Still Loving You, The Zoo, Always Somewhere, Lady Starlight, Humanity... Yep, Lady Starlight is sensational. I got into the band when THE ZOO first burst out on FM radio, it was before Love at First Sting in 1984. That was a major success. I feel Queensryche is just as notable as the bands I mentioned, they all were major players in the hard rock scene. How you can discount Def Leppard alone is beyond me. They had the most success and hit after hit too!
*MURDOC*
Queensryche is more notable. And notably better.
Slamman
Really, I don't see why, they all have good and bad songs, Just because Queensryche has operatic, thematic albums/material? I initially did not like it. Always liked Dokken however, but I like Hear in the Now Frontier and I don't think many people appreciate that release! Back to Rockin with Dokken, a middle of Minnesota rock gig I just found out about features Dokken, Skid Row and April Wine among others, and damn, sound freaking good to me!!!!
