I have AMD and Intel so I'm not a fan boy and sure like AMD. I remember my best computer was from AMD I could run 4 of the same game at 100+FPS all at the same time. Back then AMD were the top dogs. Intel have progressed and go onto ANY overclocking or computer forum and find the information yourself (who ever made this topic). Please do not ask for information like this on a forum where information is based on opinions unlike mine. And when the f*ck is someone like this guy who knows not much about computers ever going to get to 7Ghz? Not likely and it was not on AIR nor WATER. Few years ago AMD was indeed a lot better then the Intel and their processors were able to do more operations on the same clock speeds in comparison to the Intel processors. However today in the time of multi core processors AMD is losing battle to INtel. Since intel's processors are more stabilized and are in fact working better then AMD's processors they also have a lot more buffer space and a larger set of instructions which is important today. And of course one more thing that is important in the multicore world is that they have their processors more optimized for the work with applications. So that one application that in fact is not written for the multi core processor may use all of his features. Also another important thing is the fact that I bought Intel Quad Core and it is working fine. I've tested simultaneously with AMD phenom on teh same machine and Intel was some 5 times better in all aspects but one. In some comparison with the ASP.NET calculations of floating point or something like that. Probably because they lacked one instruction or something like that. ORIGINAL POSTER I strongly suggest that you use Intel as multicore processor. Of course if you would go for single core then you should take 64 bit AMD processor. Also, even if he does get a good one, he would still need a $50-$60 heatsink to be able to overclock it higher then 2.8 without melting the CPU and possibly damaging the CPU socket on the mobo. True but would it perform better? $40 for a heatsink is not expensive, he's talking about buying a processor he's crazy enough going into buying any computer components in the current econic state . But it does not matter how high a PhenomII reach as an i7 dont need to be there to beat the sh*t out of it, 5GHz on an i7 take it far enougt to hold of a Phenom II so only the missguided omne think that MHz means something today when it is the power behind that counts and Mhz is only for stupid ones that falls for the PR. Thats the only reson Intel gonna try to break 7GHz with a specialmade batch of D0:s 975:s given to special selected OC:ers to take away all confusion about i7 vs. Phenom II. My Next build will be with a PII955 Second best current processor(non server) on the market is good enough for me. The i7 will act like a 955 in most cases, the i7 is better then the 955 especially in gta4. i7 in most cases = bragging rights only. I build computers for a living. I do like AMD direction but when it comes to hardware. My favorite is always who can sell a good product for less then the other guy.
