the 9600 is a decent card, and has a lot more horsepower than the 8600's etc, my brother bought a 1.5gig model for £75 just last week, although for £20 more you can buy a proper 9800gtx these days.

I bought and build my current PC (sig) for 550 euros except screen.

You can get way better parts with that 8000 dollar budget, so you can lower it or buy highend parts. tounge.gif

Thanks Highwayman72 for your quick reply, but in my budget

9600gt 1gb has ddr2 memory as far as i know.ddr2 or ddr3,is it a great factor?

i may also consider the 9800gtx as you said.

For $120 you can get a HD4850, HD4830 or 9800GT in the US. So aim for one of those cards and don't go for anything less because anything less isn't worth buying IMO.

As for memory question, faster memory is better than more memory. A 512MB DDR3 9600GT will be a lot faster than a 1GB DDR2 9600GT. But the 9600GT can't really use 1GB of memory anyway.

Get a HD4770, they overclock like crazy especially after installing a new heatsink & voltmod

Some even managed to reach 1000Mhz core clock.

Yes the HD4770 is also a good card for my budget, but i cannot decide between ati or nvidia for gta4.

It's more of a personal choice and value for money thing

I have an ATi card in my system but I prefer nVidia

Anything that's like the Geforce 9600 GT or better is a good choice. (I'm not that sure what are the Ati Counterparts).

Without knowing how much they cost in your country, here are some good tips:

- Don't buy the Geforce 8600. No matter what version, that card simply sucks for games.

- BEWARE! A Geforce 9600 GS or GSO is a very toned-down 9600, you don't want it. It's GT or nothing.

- If you can get a 9800 or the like card, it would be a blast. They are better than a 9600 GT, a LOT better! (But don't worry, the GF9600 GT is still a blast for the money)

- Between DDR2 and DDR3 I'll go with DDR3 even with less memory. The speed of the older RAM won't be able to manage that whole GB. Those are usually over-prized cards with stupidly big but slow amounts of RAM made to catch the costumer's money!

- And like I said any other better card would be awesome ^^

It might be worth looking into a GTX250, I've seen them as low as $100 US and they seem to still pack a punch.

hd 4850 will not let you down, you can get them really cheap as well now.

I really really recommend you going with a 9800 GTX.

It is slightly more expensive than the cards you were looking at,

but it is FAR MORE worth it. Just wait a little bit longer to save more money if you have to, you won't regret it.

It is what I use and with stock cooling I can overclock the heck out of it (The XFX version is really incredible, or the EVGA one)

I can play the game with around 40 FPS and more than medium settings. At a resolution of 1680 x 1050, most settings turned to high,

great view distance, I'm telling you, the game is just awesome, very beautiful, and no need for a $400 USD card.

XFX 9800 GTX is just one of the nicest price/performance available card on the market right now,

a rightful successor to the previous card in that position, the 8800 GTS Ultra, on which the 9800 GTX was based.

thanx to all for your kind advices and helps.i have just returned from the computer market and got the spec and price.keeping your advices in mind i decided some cards in my range and they are:

1.9600gt

2.9800gtx(its better than 9600gt)

3.ati hd4830

4.ati hd4850

(ati hd4770 is not available here and in my country ati cards are highly priced for no reason)

So,out of those four which one to get?(i half decided to get the 9800gtx)

Many thanx again.

Get the HD4850, it's the best option out of all the cards there. You won't be disappointed. Try and get a 1GB version though.

If you play with a high resolution, get a 4850. Otherwise get a 9800gtx.

The 9800GTX and the HD4850 have almost the same performance. You usually wont be able to tell the difference. Pick the cheapest one and you should be happy.

isn't the gtx250 a re-tooled 9800gtx? sure i read Nvidia been re-hashing the chipsets to smaller size and rebranding it, much like the 9800gtz is itself a retooled 8800gtx.

Yes, GTS 250 is inovated 9800 GTX. And it is cheaper, (At least in my country) + little bit more powerful.

the best option .. from those cards... is 4850... wich is better than 9800gtx by a little... or you could go on that card wich is available at 1 gb

I thought the GTS 250 was a renamed 9800 gtx+? Not just a reqular 9800gtx?

BTW a decent card to get would be the 3870X2, but its a shame, coz I dont think they sell new anymore. sad.gif

Correct. The board size is also smaller compared to the 9800 GTX+

Personally, I'm getting a new card soon. I would recommend the GTX275(nvidia) or 4850x2(ati) if you have about $230-250 to spend. They're lightning fast, can carry you for 2+ years, and you can always add another for crossfire/sli later.

But,

If you really need to stick to your budget, I'd go for the GTS250, which is just a repackaged 9800gtx+. Or if you prefer ATI, go for the 4850. At this price range (~$140), these two cards are the best value by far.

For real though; don't take our word for it. Go to a computer hardware forum and ask there. Most importantly: READ, READ, READ, and READ some more before making your decision.

Good Luck.

You won't regret the HD4850 man, especially since you went with the 1GB version.

Remember though, make sure you have atleast a 500W PSU to power the card and make sure it's from a good brand like Antec, OCZ, Tagan, BFG, Coolermaster, Corsair, FSP (Amacrox), etc.

Go for any generic or cheap brands and you'll have serious problems.
