Wow, this is a tough one.

After thinking about it for a good 2 minutes I think I liked This is England better. Regardless, Casino is a fantastic movie and actually would be somewhere in my top 20 favorite films had you ask me to list them. But on the other hand, This is England was such a unique film in it's own right and I've never seen anything like it before. The casting, acting, story, cinematography was almost perfect and to my surprise the ending hit me hard emotionally. Must see it if you haven't already.

Once again, two great films, but This is England hits it for me.

Casino is a good film, not Scorcese's best, but good all the same. However I feel that This Is England is painfully overrated. The acting seemed terrible to me, and the story wasn't all that interesting. Most will disagree with me, as the film seems to get almost universal praise. Overall though, I thought it was a pretty average film. Casino's not especially amazing either, but I liked it much more than This Is England.

I agree 100%

On a minute by minute basis, This is England was more meaningful to me. Casino was pretty much a reiteration of Goodfellas, a well executed one but it didn't seem to bring anything new to the table. This is England was something I hadn't really seen before, it wasn't like American History X but it made an impact all the same.

It's funny because I found the acting in This is England to be quite the opposite, I thought it was brilliant, it all seemed very fluid and natural to me, especially with it being Thomas Turgoose's first ever onscreen performance.

Casino although a decent film didn't stand out to me as something that broke the mould, it stayed very much in the constraints of what is and isn't in a gangster film, as Mike Tequeli already said the general feel of the film felt very "done" and similar to other films of the same genre, whereas This is England in my opinion broke the mould, don't get me wrong I'm not saying the film is an alternative masterpiece or anything because it does have its flaws, however I feel it broke the mould just enough for people to think of it as something a little bit different and more enjoyable for that reason.

Nulled since I haven't seen This Is England, but I will say that I think Casino is an excellent film that flows well and doesn't drag considering it's around 3 hours. I think it sometimes gets the bad rep of being a lesser Goodfellas, partly because that was the third time Scorsese used the De Niro-Pesci duo, but the acting was still great so I could really give no f*ck about the casting.

Casino is a brilliant piece of film, and was well-crafted. I really enjoyed watching it, and am glad that it made it through to the second stage. This is England really hit me though, I was gripped beyond belief whilst viewing the film. Shane Meadows really worked his magic again, and made for a fantastic depiction. Tough decision, but in the end I went with Casino. icon14.gif

Hit the nail on the head. Shane Meadows is really good at captivating the audience and having great tense moments. He did it with Dead Man's Shoes aswell.

Has anyone seen that new music video with Stephen Graham in it? He's the one that plays Combo, the main skinhead.

He sort of plays the same character but less violent, same accent - not sure if it's actually his though.

This is England as you can see by my sig.

It holds the number top spot in my list of films. Purely down to the immersion into the story and the acting. It felt like a very well crafted journey about the influence of others.

This Is England for me.

Great acting, great casting, great direction. Turgoose was great considering it was his first onscreen performance (as wuirt said). Really is a great representation of the life back then in those communites.

Although Casino does get a lot of unfair abuse, calling it Goodfellas light and such, even though it was made before Goodfellas (if I'm correct). I really liked the pairing in it and the acting is good (Stone is a bitch), but This Is England just blew me away.

I expected a response like this. But yeah, some of the acting felt really forced to me. I genuinely cringed everytime I heard Joseph Gilgun speak. I thought Stephen Graham's performance was alright, but everyone else's seemed really poor to me. Scenes like the underpass scene, which is obviously supposed to be a fairly significant scene, just felt like bad performance after bad performance for me. Maybe it was the dialogue itself, I dunno. It just felt really below par to me. It was Thomas Turgoose's first performance though, so all things considered, I should cut him a bit of slack, but the majority of the rest of them made the film seem like bad performance after bad performance. I'm not trying to paint This Is England as the worst film I ever saw, I just felt that it was average at best, and fairly overrated.

Nice, I hadn't seen that Deadmau5 video before.

Tough choice, I love the directorial style of Meadows, but I have voted for Scorsese's Casino. I gain an insane sense of enjoyment after coming in from work and sitting down to watch three hours of Marty Scorsese, Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci flourish in their own element. It flows, it entertains and it is shot beautifully, as I mentioned a touch choice, and I suppose that's that.

Omnia sunt Communia

I'd like to vote for This Is England, since I think it's one of the greater films of the past five or so years - but I haven't seeen Casino.

Casino was good, but to me it was too much like Goodfellas yet it wasn't. I enjoyed it don't get me wrong, but This is England seemed a lot fresher for me, especially since it's shot and based in my general area. I thought the acting was superb, it felt very natural as if you were just watching a group of mates rather than a group of actors. The story was great as well.

Gonna have to say This is England.
