pyramid head
Since its too early to begin talking about R3 as nothing is known about the game post what you would like to see in R3 The game should be called Resistance Fall Of Man 3 not Resistance 3 (if anyone is wondering why the topic isn't called resistance fall of man 3 i couldn't fit in fom3 because of the words wishlist/discussion) Bring back the following from Resistance Fall Of Man Widowmaker Menials The Angel Slipskulls Howlers Conversion centers Spires (The only spires in R2 were ones that had already been deployed) I would have liked one level in which the player was under threat because of a spire attack. The weapons wheel running out of ammo when surrounded by up to 60 grims and not being able to get to a weapon to get more ammo because of the grims was annoying. Plus I hate being restricted to 2 weapons Captain Parker and Lieutenant Cartwright Captain Parker narrating between levels Third person deaths seeing hale die is better than the stupid first person view deaths in R2 A decent and very long single player campaign R2’s single player campaign isn’t that great and it’s too short. Better boss fights the leviathan boss fight in R2 should have been much better but it lacked tension it was just get thrown around run from a to b get picked up and thrown around again and that’s it Unlockable weapons Carriers Chimeran dropship Burrower Intel/concept art accessible from the in-game menu England Vehicle levels which I would make 2 changes to: 1 Have hale use the gun and someone else drive Cartwright has the worst aim ever 2 Change the gun from a machine gun to a grenade launcher Play as different types of chimera in multiplayer I’m tired of always being a hybrid let me be a titan a stalker a goliath or a drone A story it lost the focus and atmosphere of the first game there are times when I’m playing R2 and i think to myself story what story all you are doing is shooting legions of chimera on the way to the objective R2’s story is non-existent compared to Fall Of Man’s from what I have heard one of the most common complaints against R2 is that it is a call of duty clone some fans believe that insomniac played call of duty while developing R2 and just copied from COD what they thought would work in R2 it annoys me that one game can be influenced by another R:FOM was unique R2 isn’t. I would like to use Hale’s superpowers that he gets at the end of R2 in multiplayer Bring back the scare factor that was missing from R2 Insomniac should re-release R2 but change the name to generic action game because that is what R2 is. Weapons from Resistance Fall Of Man that I would like to see in Resistance Fall Of Man 3 Reapers XR-005 hailstorm XR-003 sapper Splitter Air fuel grenade Backlash grenade One thing I would change from Resistance Fall Of Man is the use of sixaxis, When a menial grabs you a button (eg square) should appear on screen so the player can break free of the menials grasp whenever a menial grabs me I keep forgetting sixaxis should be used to shake the menial off I keep pressing square (my pressing square comes from playing resident evil and pressing square to shake off a zombie it’s become force of habit) More cloven there was no cloven in R2 they were only mentioned in Intel and mission briefings during loading in multiplayer co-op I would like the ability to control a goliath both in the single player campaign and in multiplayer. Stuff I disliked in R2 which I would like to be changed or not included in Resistance Fall Of Man 3. The single player campaign compared to Resistance Fall Of Man’s single player campaign its crap. I would have liked some explanation in-game of what happened in the 2 years between when hale was picked up by the American’s after the destruction of the tower in London and when he was promoted to lieutenant to cut 2 years from the game and then offer no explanation as to what happened during those 2 years is annoying, answers as to what happened during the missing 2 years will be given in the up coming book The Gathering Storm the events of those 2 years should have been dealt with in-game. Those tiny robotic drones an unnecessary inclusion and they’re annoying I hope they won’t be in R:FOM 3 The boring opening level and there being no sense of achievement when I killed the goliath, I would have liked to have been able to kill it myself instead of being told when to shoot the goliath by Major Blake. Furies was it really necessary to include an invincible enemy Get rid of first person view deaths seeing hale die in third person view (tpv) is better than the first person deaths No health bar or med kits I hate that little red bar that replaced the yellow health bar from R:FOM The melee button being changed from triangle to R3, I liked it better when it was triangle Having only 2 weapons at a time to choose from bring back the weapon wheel The pulse cannon and the kraken Always knowing what enemy is coming next when you find a shotgun or a splicer you’ll be facing grims, crawlers, chameleons and drones, when you find a rocket launcher you’ll be facing titans and stalkers and when you find the explosive magnum you’ll be facing suicide bomber chimera, I would have preferred to not know what enemy would be coming next it would have added some tension to the game not knowing what enemy would be waiting around the next corner, if there was one thing R2 was lacking it was definitely tension. Capelli’s useless AI when surrounded by up to 20 or more grims Capelli will insist on shooting them one at a time despite having a 300 round capacity wraith which he could have used to shoot all of the grims at once by strafing instead of shooting one grim at a time somewhat annoyingly he always shoots in a straight line plus he seems to be incapable of killing grims most of the time he’ll be shooting grims his gunfire has no effect the grims just run past him unharmed play the twin falls level and get to where hale and Capelli go through the grim nests in the 2 train tunnels to see capelli’s crap AI in action, most of the time he’ll either stand there doing nothing or hide behind a pillar occasionally leaning out from behind the pillar to shoot the grims. (Note to insomniac a wraith is useless against grims the bellock splicer and shotgun are better weapons for fighting grims) Not being able to sprint through water which is only ankle deep Too many new chimera: Ravagers Grims Spinners Chameleons Suicide bomber chimera Marauders And drones Resistance Fall Of Man had plenty of chimera but it stopped short of having too many chimera Resistance 2 has more chimera than it needs. It was annoying when surrounded by up to 100 chimera of different types and not being able to kill them because of the limited weapon selection this is more apparent in multiplayer than then single player campaign Having to wait to be revived when playing on superhuman difficulty on multiplayer in some cases I would be waiting for up to 15 minutes to be revived Nathan Hale seems to be as weak as a kitten in R2 it takes just two bullets from an enemy to put him in near death status and one more to kill him in R:FOM he took a lot more punishment before dying. The R2 campaign is just way too chaotic and poorly designed all the game does is throw wave after wave of enemies at you it was the same in R:FOM with one difference there would be breaks between battles in R2 there is a non-stop flow of enemies and that becomes irritating after a while. Nathan Hale being made into a one-dimensional tough guy solider I cared more about Nathan Hale from R:FROM than I do about Nathan Hale in R2. Less enemy variety it was mostly ravagers titans hybrids grims chameleons and drones if they had included the widowmaker, the howler, the grayjacks, the angels the slipskulls and the menials from R:FOM then there would have been more variety in the enemies enemy variety in R2 is very poor and should have been better. The lack of pacing the first resistance was excellent in this regard, with a long meandering build-up as the mystery of the chimera was revealed and finally an epic last couple of levels to build up to a satisfying conclusion R2 had none of that R2 threw you into one situation after another at breakneck speed and R2’s second to last level was a bloody stupid swamp and the last level wasn’t that great it lacks that epic feel just go through 4 dome like structures with daedalus tearing each one apart trying to grab hale then spitting at him before flying away. The lead-up to the final boss fight was nothing more than a game of cat and mouse. How annoyingly easy the final boss fight was just shoot the electric orb to cause damage to daedalus why couldn’t insomniac just let me shoot him. One-sided battles hale against 3 titans made all the more harder by hale having less health that he did in R:FROM. One of the bigger problems I had with the game was that it relied too much on cheap deaths. In R:FOM most of the deaths were the result of the game’s difficulty. In R2 the deaths were the result of irritating enemies like the chameleon which I didn’t always see coming or the furies it’s like insomniac wanted to waste the players time and force them to re-do irritating sections by putting in enemies that can kill you in one hit. Dying in R:FROM didn’t bother me as much as it does in R2 because i didn’t mind repeating the levels. The sentinels having headset radios the game is set in the mid 1950s where did they get the headsets from does the american military in R2 have a time machine to go the future to get headset radios. Hale speaking i liked hale a lot more when he didn’t speak. R2’s supporting characters; the other characters in R2 are boring and one-dimensional except maybe for Warner. Capelli and Hawthorne weren’t interesting enough to be consider likeable Capelli’s in your face attitude quickly became irritating and there is nothing special about Hawthorne. At least the characters in R:FOM had some actual personality to them and some redeeming qualities. In R2 there was really no reason to remember anyone’s name as the characters are nothing special compared to R:FOM’S characters. The story it lost the focus and atmosphere of the first game maybe for R:FOM 3 insomniac could have the surviving humans and the chimera star in a musical Daedalus an uninteresting character who looks almost exactly like the aliens from the movie independence day. AbSoLuTiOn
I have a few things to say about your list: 1) There aren't any conversion centres in R2 because the Chimera don't need them anymore, they've found a getter way of creating more of themselves. 2) A spire attack didn't really seem likely in R2, every city/place you went to was desolate of life because the Chimera had already harvested most of the population, and calling in a spare attack on a small squad of 1-4 guys is hardly worth it, i know at some points you are with a larger group, but that is mostly when you are being attacked by a small group of Chimera. 3) I think having just two weapons is great, makes you try and pick the two best weapons for the job rather than knowing that if you encounter a Stalker or Titan you have a LAARK handy as well as 10 other weapons for stranglers. 4) It was moved away from England for R2 for a reason, all the Chimera there had been killed, yes they managed to attack America and going over England would seem like a likely route, but they attacked Greenland (or is it Iceland) first because of the US base there, and then attacked San Francisco, which is on the west coast, they could have come from the Pacific instead. 5) The powers Hale gets at the end in MP? No way. Way too unbalanced, imagine and entire enemy team with those powers against a team using conventional weapons, the team with the powers would win. 6) Air Fuel Grenade is in R2, in both SP and MP. 7) Well in all 3 Resistance games the Cloven are in MP, in R:FoM and R2 as MP skins (though as DLC for R2) and there is a mode to play as them in Retribution. If you mean in SP, well i think Insomniac will make them feature as part of the SP at some point. 8) In R:FoM there were places where it gave you a weapon and you knew what was coming next, something like that is present in almost all FPS games. 9) If they had kept all the old Chimera Strains and not put any new ones in it would just have been boring, as you know how to kill them all, with the new ones it managed to make you adjust tactics a little bit. 10) It's called Superhuman for a reason, it's damn hard. You can't expect your co-op team to rush in Rambo style and revive you, plus you shouldn't be stupid enough to run off and get killed in the first place. 11) I'm glad they don't give you loads of health so when it comes to the "One-sided battles hale against 3 titans" it's more of a challenge. 12) Well, the Humans have reverse-engineered a lot of Chimeran tech, managed to get them all kinds of things, and remember it is in an alternate 1950's not our one, as VTOL aircraft are only really being put into service now. All i have to say.
Tubbs
Here's a question: what did you like about R2? IMO, it was better than the first, including story-wise. For example: the finale. It answers questions from the first one, raises new ones, and was much more dramatic. Why go back to Britain? Retribution touches on the European side of the war; Britain's chimera-free and kicking ass. On the powers you get at the end of R2: it would make no sense to have them in the next one. Plus, it was overkill. I can tear dozens of chimera apart without lifting a finger? That'll be real fun for about ten minutes. My personal wishlist: more Cloven, more answers (the f*ck was that at the end of R2?), the same great atmosphere, and closure. Maybe multiple characters, too. It'd be cool to see the war from a few different perspectives.

I believe the thing at the end of R2 was a planet, if you look carefully it looks very much like one, maybe the weapon that Chimera used near the end was some sort of huge slip space jump device and allowed them to take the whole of earth near to their proper enemy that managed to exile them on Earth. Slamman
I never got one game that came with the 60GB model as I bought it via Gamestop. Motorstorm, Spiderman, Resistance. All the biggies...nope, nada one. I look at this game in the shop and wonder when I will get it, but price seems still somewhat high

That's the general view on it yeah, that they managed to move the earth right at the last moment (bastards ). Do you think we'll see the other race in R3? ----- I hope the next resistance has a campaign as long as R:FoM or at least there abouts. I can't help sort of agree with OP about being able to have more character types in MP. Imagine a stalker TDM that would be cool I must admit. But obviously you wouldn't have stalkers, titans & humans in the same match. Extra game modes would need to be created. I hated the limit of 2 weapons in R2 at first, but only because I was used to having up to what 6? in FoM, but now I think it works, and forces you to make important decisions esp when going through on superhuman. There's certain points where you need a certain weapon. Edited July 1, 2009 by sananoutlaw
asimov
That's one hell of a wishlist. Quoted for truth. @Spires, I thought the game said there was absolutely no way to defend against them besides it would be like trying to shoot down a massive plauge of locusts. All I'd like to see in the next one would be a bit more variation in the weapons, like more than one assault rifle, shotgun and so on, rather than one for every class. the young hooligan
In R2 there was a piece of intel I found and it was a newspaper. It said on it that "all refugee boats have turned towards Australia since thats the only place that the Chimera have not being able to take over". Now the Chimera thrive and are to the best of there abilities in cold weather, so maybe Australia's hot weather is preventing them from taking it over. So maybe there is a possibility that Australia will have a big part in R3. Maybe even a few missions will be set there (i'm sure the Chimera could find a way to taker over Australia). It sure would be cool to see the Sydney Harbour Bridge get blown up by a Chimeran ship. Edited July 5, 2009 by the young hooligan
