Great Escape is probably the best damned POW film ever made. Yes, there are some amazing holocaust films, but I consider those to be a separate genre.

So, while Blazing Saddles is a bold example of Mel Brooks at the height of his career, he is ultimately trumped by this film, the stellar cast, a certain motorcycle chase and a baseball.

Edit - 8 votes, one justification. Nice. Y'all are turning me into a complainer.

Seriously? You guys are actually voting for Blazing Saddles over The Great Escape? Whatever, it's your vote.

Blazing Saddles is funny...that's about it. The Great Escape runs the gambit of emotions. It has all the best parts of a "heist movie" coupled with the drama and a bit of humor you come to expect from the POW sub-genre. The cast of characters and the people that play them, are in my opinion the best you could have assembled at the time this movie was released. And then there is Steve McQueen. What can be said? Hilts, A.K.A. "the Cooler King", is definitely a top 5 favorite character of mine. He's charismatic, he's cool, unrelenting, and he can ride a motorcycle like a mad man.

My favorite part of the movie is the depressing, yet upbeat ending.

Everyone that votes against The Great Escape should get 20 days in the cooler.

Voted for The Great Escape, without hesitation.

The Great Escape is my most favourite adventure film (I know I said earlier that The Good, The Bad & The Ugly was my favorite, so scratch that). I just loved watching the POWs intricately plan out and develop the escape. The sense of comradeship and the overall scale of the project is so engaging and exciting.

Blazing Saddles is just another comedy film to me - sure it has a lot of funny jokes (punching the horse lol.gif), but I really didn't see what was so special about it. Maybe if I was able to watch it at the time when it was released, I might've appreciated it more.

Blazing Saddles was a massive film when I was growing up. Has a special place for me.

I still hear quotes from it every week by someone or other. So thats my vote.

The Great Escape is also a fantastic movie, love watching it. Just blazing saddles has more meaning for me.

The Great Escape is probably one of the greatest World War II action-adventure film I have seen ever seen. From the music to the motorcycle chase, to Steve McQueen enjoying the calming activity of throwing a baseball against a wall for quite a time to come. It's a film that has a special place in most Brits hearts.

Am I the only one who finds the farting at the bean scene really unfunny? I have never seen the appeal in that but I pissed myself when the horse gets punched.

But The Great Escape trumps Blazing Saddles with ease for me.

McQueen on the motorcycle alone beats anything Saddles can offer.

But again, haven't seen BS in its entirety, so can't vote.

Blazing Saddles is fun and all (farting cowboys), but The Great Escape is a hell of a movie. I watched it when I was growing up a lot, McQueen is seriously a badass even at the end when he get's caught, he just waltz right back into the camp smoothly. I can't vote against it.
