I don't find Israel that intimidating. I think they only act tough because they know America has it's back. Now Russia on the other hand, those guys don't play about! We can never be sure of what they're up to! I remember that Simpsons episode, when Homer "steals" the submarine, and the nations are discussing what to do, then the russian guy goes "The Soviet Union will be glad to take in your rogue submarine" and the other guy goes "Soviet Union? We thought it was over years ago!" and the soviet guy now answers "Hah! That's what we wanted you to think!"

You do know Simpsons are imaginary? I don't see any threat in Russia, and have never seen any.

You've no birth date on your profile, but I'm assuming you were not of an age to know much about the cold war before the fall of the wall, assuming you were alive at the time of that event. Certainly not alive in October of 1962. I would've been sh*tting myself over the USSR at that time.

I wouldn't say I'm intimidated of any nation...apart from those that turn a blind eye/actively support any loon willing to blow the crap out of where I live.

What would I win by trolling? And by saying "destroy" europe, I mean making it like america -.-

You seem to have forgotten the whole 9/11 thing. Killing thousands of people kind of ticked our leaders off.

If I ever called Bush as my leader I would want to suicide suicidal.gif

It's a shame Bush wasn't the president of Greece then.

What did you mean by the EU becoming like America though? If you had even a basic understanding of world affairs you'd know that the US and the EU disagree on many things. The EU wont become anything like America and I have no idea why you thought it might do in the first place.

You're not Crocodile Dundee in disguise are you? colgate.gif

Our geography teacher told the class about Cuba this monday. One time, there was a year of dryness, and a year of floods. That resulted in terrible harvest. So, they thought it was some evil force or something. They captured the Minister of Agriculture, executed him in public (by shooting him (3 to the head, 3 to the torso, 3 to arms and legs, if I recall correctly)), dug up his parents and his first teacher (!), executed them (...), and threw them away.

Also, they spy on the residents in Cuba. At any time they can knock on your door and ask what are you doing. They get paid 20$ a month. They have booklets in which they write how many slices or loafs they've bought. If they are found buying bread illegally (there are some that sell bread like that), they have to tell who, when, how, why sold them the bread, and then they both are repressed.

F*cking scary.

Hahaha are you f*cking serious? Is that the propoganda they feeding kids nowadays?

They are poor as f*ck, but still manage to have a public health service to rival most private American Healthcare firms, as well. If you wanna know something horrendously cruel, look at the US' 50-odd year sacntions on Cuba - and they still manage to live quite comfortably (with a higher life expectancy) than the US.

Oh, and the US doesn't spy on their citizens? sly.gif

Anyway, I believe the most intmidating country is very subjective, and depends on who you are. If you're in the Middle-East, it'll be Israel who get their kids running around with assault rifles - but not only that - they are trained to be the best-class killers with them, as well as having some of the best miltary equipment on Earth.

If you're Russia, it'll be the ex-soviet nations who are all falling into the West's sphere of influence and surround you.

If you're an Iraqi citizen, it;ll be Iran with their ever-increasing influence over your country, as well as having your traitorous leaders in their pockets, who care more about Iran and their interests than their own citizens who are oppressed with secret death squads.

If you're practically every country in the world, it'll probably be the US, who often betrayed new allies and have extreme influence and the power to defend that in your country.

And finally, if your the US Government, it'll probably be Iraq - not because of terrorism or the US soldiers being killed there, but because the leaders there are more than happy and able to betray and stab the US in the back, who sponsered them, trained them and helped them get into power by making them seem like Iraq's best future. Those leaders are also betraying their own country by caring more about appeasing Iran than their people who they oppress and manipulate with Iranian propoganda and death squads if that fails.

These guys know how to turn up the pain on the US - going straight into the hands of perhaps it's biggest enemy - Iran, using their position to defend it. Since the US spent so much effort trying to make these people seem like the best of the best, they now cannot easily say they are wrong or incapable even though they are supporting the US' enemies.

So the most intimidating country always depends on who you are.

And then it's the whole christianity thing. Many of them are just obsessed with Bible, they relate everything with religion, and they consider themselves right.

Way to generalize, dude. dozingoff.gif

On topic, Israel. They don't take any sh*t. See: Six-Day War

New Zealand's pretty intimidating, right?

For me, probably China. Just because of the extreme population for the land area.

But using that logic, i should be intimidated by Indians, but they aren't so.

Yeeeah... Those guys aren't Russian.

And North Korea ain't got sh*t, yo.

I'd say China (2 million+ army, plus they could easily just draft another ten million - or not, I dunno) and America for reasons already stated.

Russia worries me most by quite some way. The progressive restriction of civil liberties, the flexing of Russian Military might, the restoration of Stalin as a Russian role model and the rise in agressive right-wing nationalism within Russia itself.

All of this appears, to me, as a steady regression to a Cold War scenario. Putin and Medvedev are systematically undoing the detante of the last 18 years and I find it very unsettling.

Did you ever visit Russia.

Or did you watch TV and nothing more.

Neither, I've read countless articles met several Russian emigres and follwed Russian Political history since the fall of Communism.

Don't get the wrong end of the stick, I'm not having a go at Russia itself; I'm saying that the Russian government is undoubtedly taking the nation down a worrying path from a Western perspective. You can't argue that a nation in which anti-government journalists consistently meet violent and very un-subtle deaths is upholding the flaming torch of democracy and freedom....or can you?

You probably will though, as the 'last of the Rasputins' your nationalism will doubtlessly cloud your rationale.

Id have to agree with D-Ice... it depends on who you are and where you live.

Though I have to chime in another perspective on this topic. Sure, we might moan and bitch about some countries being totalitarian and unstable but think for a moment... for who do you lock your car doors? I bet its not the Chinese military.

So, what Im implying is that in a way were more scared of our own countries than any other.

you know, for some reason I've had a weird desire to visit Russia. Those are some good pictures in there. I definately wouldn't call Russia intimidating, but unique.

Someone mentioned Pakistan in here, I think it should be said that my brother (who is American, durr incase you didn't figure already) visited Pakistan with a friend of his for about a week, and it turned out he loved it. He even drove along the Pakistan / India border, where sh*t occasionally kicks off, and he said that was the scariest part of the whole experience..

He said he received a warm reception from the citizens there, really not as bad as it is made out to be and as a matter fact I wouldn't mind visiting one day either.

Well...

Russia is actually a pretty cool country. I remember going there a couple of years ago (with a group). We stayed in Saint Petersburg... and other than the sh*tty hotel and a guy from our group getting beaten up, things went pretty smoothly.

In the larger cities you could smell a bit of anarchy in the air - how the drivers ignored every possible law and how the kids could buy anything they wanted. The parties/discos were also pretty entertaining.

However, the villages were completely different... quiet and friendly (and often seemed stuck in time).

the most intimidating country is defenitley not america. americans love to brag about their ghettos being so rough and how much crime there is there but in reality american ghettos aint sh*t compared to ones in africa, eastern europe and asia. I know thats maybe not what the defenition of intimidating in this topic was anyway, just thought I'd point that out. and people outside the us knows how it is there, I mean theres nothing secret or mysterious about the usa. shure they have good military but I'd bet russia and china would whoop them even today. The most intimidating country out of all time imo was the soviet union, I mean they had eveything to make it an intimidating country. huge landmass, huge population, huge army and the soviet union was quite mysterious to imo because it was closed off and everything. I know I weren't around that time but I mean I bet they where pretty freakin intimidating back then. The most intimidating country today imo is Russia, they have lost a bit of its intimidation since the soviet union fell but theyre still intimidating alot more so than the usa.

For the record though, I think having ghettos that "aint sh*t compared to ones in Africa, Eastern Europe and Asia" is actually a good thing. Honestly, who wants ghettos besides wannabe gangsters?
