Call of Duty: Black Ops

Then again, if people are going to keep buying it then there is money to be made.

I actually traded my MW2 back in for a DVD for my girlfriend (she bought me the game) after 2 weeks.

 

I might RENT this one, to see if they actually change the game for the first time since CoD4.

And by this, I don't mean add more weapons, killstreaks and god damn perks.

 

I won't buy it though.

 

MW2 was the same old sh*te except easier and in no way deserved the universal praise and sales.

 

The campaign was crap and short, the multiplayer was boring.

I rip on the game a lot, I admit, but it's because of all the stupid undeserved praise it gets.

And don't get me started on the £10 map pack.

 

However for CoD7, I have slight hope.

Call of Duty only has the "spectacle" going for it at this point. The set pieces are well-done, and again the spectacle of explosions, nukes detonating, and helicopters going down... all of that is wonderful.

 

BUT,

 

COD doesn't have anything decent other than that.

 

Your enemies for example: within a second of you entering their view, they'll have locked their guns onto you and began firing... This is especially true for the hardest difficulty. The AI has superhuman abilities, both in their aim and their vision. They're not "human" in the slightest.

 

While most other games have moved forward to create enemy combatants that behave more "human", Call of Duty just continues to reuse the simplistic, lock-on aiming, superhuman vision AI over and over.

 

 

And then they throw like a dozen guys at you at any given time...

 

 

So essentially, in order to make Call of Duty playable they give you (for the normal & easy difficulties) absurd resistance to gunfire --- and stupidly quick regenerating health..

 

 

^The shootouts in Call of Duty are rarely even intense or realistic anymore. No tactics are ever used. You either play on normal difficulty, get shot with AK47s over and over with no penalty or reaction to it --- or you play "hardened" difficulty and get instantly shot the instant you leave cover; so the entire time is spent hiding, popping out and killing 1 of the 6 soldiers locked-on to you, then hiding again waiting to regenerate your health... then rinse and repeat

 

 

 

I was also pissed when MW2 didn't even have any gore like WaW had...

What i'm getting is the impression of is that you think all 3 of those are gonna be out this year, am i right? If you do then no, Black Ops is Treyarchs run at the franchise for this year, as they've done a leapfrog thing since Call Of Duty 3, Vietnam doesn't even exist and MW3 is pretty much a no go right now.

 

If i'm wrong about what i think you've said though then my bad.

well this is what IGN had, so I thought there was like 3 games all together, but they have updated the article and confirmed it's just Black Ops.

I'm so happy a Vietnam style war game is coming out for the 360 that's hopefully going to get some good action into it. The only game I've ever played with Vietnam involved was Shellshock on the PS2 which, although it had flaws I really, really enjoyed it. I hope they do good things with this game not to sure about the title they are giving it though kind of reminds me of those Vegas games. Which were pretty awesome too.

Glad to hear that Machine Pistols/Shotguns won't be making a return as sidearms. Too much firepower is exactly what I was thinking...Machine Pistols - I don't have a problem with for secondary, but I do believe that shotguns belong to a Primary slot.

I don't like the futuristic look of the whole (presumably)'present'(???) thing in the teaser. Some of the flashesl looked amazing though (Huey going down above a city in flames, LRRP/Spec Ops on patrol through the jungle, NVA troops toting AK's).

 

Too flashy, though it did get me somewhat more excited and interested.

Yes indeed, that's a suppressed STEYR AUG. I have this AC feeling about this title... (lab in 'future/present'... digging back in memory, 'reliving the past').

 

And these 'Nam/Cold War/small conflicts/... are probably those 'pas memories' the player will be able to play.
