Braindawg
i was having screen problems lately, whenever i leave it on overnight to... nevermind, i turn it on in the morning and i can barely see anything. the screen is sudently very dark and cant even see what im doing, so i turn it off, and on again nd its ok for just a 0.1 second and it goes back to being dark!! so i turn the whole PC off and i noticed that one of my PC cables is torn a bit, when my dog was little his teeth were iching when they grew so he had to chw a lot... so he chose to chew my PC cables. so i bought a new cable for my PC's screen, the one that has thease two screws on each end, one end goes to the PC, the other to the screens back. but it wasnt the problem. the problem is the PCs plug(i guess) but that didnt help. so i wasted like $7 on it or something. 2 days ago a figured out it was the other screen cable. the one with a plug on each end, like the other; one goes to the screen, other to the wall. so i took it out and put it back in, and what do you know! it works! so i leave my pc overnight again, turn off the screen and it happened again! so today my guess is that its eitrher the plug entrance that goes into the screen, or the plug that goes in the screen. my screen cost me a lot. its a 17" plasma screen by LG. i dont want to buy a new one because this one serves me since '05. any suggestions what should i do? besides buy a new plug? PS: the plus has to be 'played' with when inserted to the screen. so it gets in the right angle so it will function normally. but i dont want to fittle around with it all day, every day. MrJohn666
Dude, if it's 4 years old it's gonna be past guarantee for sure. Have you tried LG's website/support ? Unless someone here is a plasma monitor guru, get a new one.
Cursed
By plasma, I assume you mean LCD screen. Anyway, it could be the backlight. Have you tried plugging another monitor into your PC?
Braindawg
@ Cursed: Yes. LCD, and no i have not tried that before. ill try to do that though.. just need to "find" a screen now
Wolf68k
Silly thought. All monitors have a brightness setting, I'd check that. But also many have a "turbo" mode, basically it's just a simple button you press to quickly change the brightness setting to usually 1 of 3 levels without having to go into the actually settings and adjusting it manually. If it is a backlight issue, you're pretty much hosed. It'll cost more than the monitor is worth, usually, to replace the backlight. I've got a problem with one of mine in that if I leave it on but not getting a signal for a long enough period of time when it does get a signal it doesn't show anything. But if I leave it on for a while, then turn it off and back on it's ok, a bit dim at first but it comes around to being just fine. It's like that really old TV your grandparents had years and years ago.
Braindawg
Thanks for your advice people, but it wasnt the settings, or the cables. it was a part of the screen.. some Grigori russian guy came and took it yesterday.. he was suggested to me by some PC shop keeper.. so he came back today with it and said some part for f*cked up and he replaced it... i payed $50 for it.. no biggie though.. atleast it works now
