gnode
I don't know if people have figured out a way to lock the camera behind when driving. But I found that when I hold down the "c" key which is the look behind view when driving, it locks to the vehicle horizontally, but not vertically. Then all I do is reposition the view with the mouse and I have a locked view behind the vehicle. I still have to adjust the vertical when driving up or down hills, but it's a lot less work then before. The used a scripting program called autohotkey to hold the c button down for me. http://www.autohotkey.com/download/ Install autohotkey. And I run this script ^z:: send {c down} return ^x:: send {c up} return save the above as gta.ahk and run it (by double clicking on it) Basically when you press control+z, it holds the c button down. When I press control+x it releases it. Obviously you can change the keys to whatever you want. Hope this helps.
Jc84144
but it's a lot less work then before. Because moving the mouse is so much hard work? How do you cope with walking and shooting in the game if you hate the mouse?
expiorer
Thank you very much! Will I be able to look around when I want to? I will try this at home. It still needs to be fixed by R* .
drageo
What do you mean it needs to be fixed? Using the mouse to look and pre-empt a situation while driving, i think, is a brilliant feature. It pulls you into the game and adds realism. I re-installed GTA VC the other day, and GTA IV against GTA VC is just incredible. GTA IV has made steps to abolish certain arcade game type features (such as being able to run forwards and then instantly start running left.) And i think its features like manually controlling the camera with the mouse that push the boundarys and limitations of game development.
expiorer
In real life - if you drive a car and turn it left for example, do you have to force your head to move the same direction? Or maybe your head waits when you drive 10 meters away and then turns itself to direction you are going. How stupid did that sound? How can you like it? If the car turns the camera must follow. For more realism some games consider g-force when calculating camera position. Can't beat that. Of course gta4 camera style is good for targeting. There must be 2 camera modes: * normal - for driving * gta4 style - for targeting and shooting (activated with right mouse button would be nice)
DRMetzger
I'm not sure, after replaying on the consoles for a bit I don't think I can stand the camera pulling itself to that extent, you can't even stop and look at something without keeping tension on the stick or the camera will snap back. Perhaps adding a way to toggle between option would be a decent solution though when driving with one hand I just center the view by tapping the rear view button, seems pretty easy.
