Cops are good. The only times I've ever came across them was when I was in a car crash, they were very very nice and understanding. The others were on the random roadblocks, again no trouble because I'm a law abiding citizen. And heck, cops already have a sh*tload to deal with, dangerous stuff to deal with, than settle disputes over petty issues. Your father assaulted the guy, since you claim he beat the sh*t out of him. Cops aren't out to get anyone, they're just doing their jobs. What, you prefer a state with no cops? A lawless place where each one takes the laws on their own hands? Retarded, if you will. I'm not saying there aren't bad cops, but the good cops far outweigh the bad ones. Teenages are otherwise, the sh*t teenagers far outweigh the good ones. Thus, it's common sense to "hate on cops" for "keeping the man down" and "fight the system". Oh to be young and foolish.

I'm not going to say that America is entirely bad... in fact, I've seen/read enough about America to know that there are enough places there that function well with the system they have.

 

But it's a fact that the SYSTEM ITSELF in America is rather screwed up. On top of that, if you allow idiots/morons to become cops (and some of those cops can use almost everything in their might) then you get messed up things like we hear in the news reguraly. (Cops beating up people... pepperspraying for the silliest reason... tazing someone because he refuses to step out of the car...).

 

I don't say all cops are like that nor that every cop in America is like that (In fact, there are enough idiotic/retarded/corrupt asshole cops in Europe too)... but there are. Just as there are enough idiotic/retarded/messed up teenagers and drug (ab)users who make the others look bad. That's just how things go... those are HUMANS for you.

 

You better hate HUMANS rather than the label these groups of human beings get because of their jobs/status/...

 

My father is a police officer... he's more of a 'by the book' with a big touch of fairness. He tells alot of stories of people driving too fast. He halts them, do what the book/rules tell him to do (talk to the driver, you have been speeding, ... too fast, you get fined ...).

 

If they are bullsh*tting/screwing around/talk big then my dad just inspects the person in question/car in question and tries to fine that f*cker for as much as possible. If it's an honest citizen/well manered person, he just fines what the book tells him to fine (or he even tries to give him a mere warning of some sorts).

 

I hate my dad a dad sometimes... but he does know how to do his job well. And you better show some f*cking respect to cops/paramedics/military/firemen and other 'public services'. These people are there to help you and even risk their lives for you and you just bash them? You have either alot of growing up to do or you should start reading/seeing more of the world, ignorant little prick.

Cops don't suck, the job they have to do does, and you can't really say it's their fault that everything is so f*cked up.

 

I mean, everyone talking about how much of a lawless state this would be without cops and this and that... The majority of involvement people have with police that gets them so pissed off toward them is being harassed for crimes and offenses that could not be considered violent, i.e. all the millions of traffic stops cops have to do. What is the real point behind them, to rack up tickets, and in the meantime it's just a sh*t situation because the cop doesn't give a f*ck about your sh*t he just wants to do his job, or maybe sometimes he does care and will be helpful, and sadly sometimes he'll care and want to f*ck you over and has power to do that.

 

We can't blame cops for the corrupt ones, or the ones that abuse their power, but I will say that I hate it when cops claim they're just doing their job, or actually try to convince me that it's necessary that I be pulled over for not signaling right when there are three rapes and a murder occuring during his license check.

 

This is a true story...

 

I got pulled over for expired tabs, and the entire time I was at the intersection with the cop checking out my tags, there was a drug deal occuring next to use only yards away on the sidewalk. The cop pulls me over, and I'm not that accustomed to it, so I say, "Well, I can't pay this, what am I supposed to do?" and he answers all smart assed, "Well, keep your tabs up to date, I'm just doing my job."

 

So anyway, I told my friend's father about this, who is a cop himself. Said that the guy didn't really have a choice if he started checking my plates first, he had to pursue it, but that by the sounds of it was just a prick that didn't want to have to do the write-up if he had busted the dealer. So I guess sometimes it can be a mix of the person and the job.

 

 

Regardless of it all I don't hate cops as people. Though I do dislike the most of them greatly. Generally speaking, they've all become too calloused by their job to really be as understanding of the community they're supposed to be working for. I don't mean calloused as in they don't care, but just that their job quickly consumes them and they become desensitized. I mean when my mom died, they were actually discussing what a great training situation it was right in front of us. You could easily interpret that as them just being assholes who don't care, but there's no telling how many scenes just like that they've been to; if they cared too much they probably couldn't do their job.

 

So, are cops evil? Yeah, to some degree, but they're a necessary evil. I will say that all this celebrating of cops needs to stop. They should not be placed on a higher echelon than the rest of the public just because they risk their lives. Not only is that the job they signed up for, but it holds true to dozens of other professions that don't get the special treatment police do.

Sometimes, cops might not be their best, but they do their job in the way they are told to. They don't have the privelege to just go up and arrest a random citizen, they arrest people who have done something against the law of the country/state. It is not the cops fault that the court announced your father guilty. The cops don't decide what happens to your father.

 

I'm still sorry about the happening but I don't think anyone of GTAF's members can help you right now.

Cops arent all that bad, in my younger days i got arrested a few times and not once was i treated without due respect, i have met a few asshole cops who try to act like they are above the law but i just act polite and dont do anything to anger them, that way they get fed up and f*ck off.

Secondly, as far as the population goes, I figured your opposition toward America was for some social reason, not just pure ignorance. I was simply trying to point out that in a country with 300 million people versus one with 9 million, there is a bit more culture shock, which is what I think is the big reason there's so much crime in the U.S. I'd be willing to be there's a larger Swedish population in American than there are actually people living in Sweden for christ sake, so lay off the generalizing.

 

You also clearly have no idea how tourism plays a role in American city's success. The sad part about it, is if a member of your country was mugged in New York, I'm CERTAIN that more would be done about it than if it was just an American citizen. In fact, they probably wouldn't actually do anything about it; as an American your call probably won't even be followed up on, as a Swede you'll get to file a report and never hear about it again, but at least they'd give you some attention to try not to lose tourism, and might even make some stupid press release on it depending on how much status the person has.
