Serenity is a fun movie to watch, but I would never consider it a great movie.

 

On the other hand, There will be Blood has that potential.

Thought that Serenity was a really good film. But TWBB is in my opinion so much more a better film, from start to finish, it is brilliant thing to watch.

Serenity was a blast, I really enjoyed it. There Will Be Blood was brilliant though, definitely gave off a classic vibe, like maybe it will be remembered well in thirty years. It deserves a spot in round three for sure.

I actually just watched Serenity again last night - this time, after having seen the TV series. That made it a better film, but it's still a little too generic to be a great film.

Daniel Plainview is such an interesting character. He's really fun to deconstruct.

From the opening fourteen minutes in which there is no dialogue what-so-ever, to the final spoken words of the film; "I'm finished!" There Will Be Blood is a modern-day cinematic classic. From Greenword's score, to Elswit's beautiful cinematography, to Anderson's script personifying everything about greed and hypocrisy into Plainview's character and last, but not least, Daniel Day-Lewis's mesmerizing performance as the "oil man." There Will Be Blood is pretty darn, bleeding good.

There Will Be Blood is an excellent film, Day-Lewis pulls off another blistering performance as Plainview, and PTA directs yet another great film. I didn't really enjoy Serenity that much, it was ok, but not on par with TWBB.

Again, we have apples and oranges. Serenity was definitely good, one of the better sci-fi flicks of this decade, but There Will Be Blood was spectacular. Dainel Plainview is an interesting character, you don't have to go film school to know that, and DDL gives his career-defining performance.
