hi guys,

I was wondering if I download a saved game if the game is non violent. I played gta 3 and every couple of seconds i guy would shoot , rob ,or attack me. I wanted to buy it for my 10 yr old sons to drive around in. Ive seen other games but they asked me about this so i said i would look.

Thanks

roamer

There are tons of non violent things to do in GTA SA. You have a whole countryside to sight-see in and explore, you have darts games, car races and snooker games, etc too play. You can gamble on horse races (not good, but not violent!), Most missions are violent, but outside of that, there's tons to do that isn't. Use imagination (and a stopwatch) and have races between family members between two points. Have races on bicycles though hill and dale and lots more - there's a whole STATE out there to enjoy, not just a city as in GTA 3! smile.gif

No Way is it usable as a non-violent game.

Random Shootings, Crushing by being driven over.

Hit and runs.

There are non-violent things to do, but they are minimal.

Note the Rating "M" for violence on the package.

Sexual remarks/references are also frequent. Both audio and visual.

Then again, What does you child already know of Sex, Violence, Drugs, death? Learned on the street, school, TV, Radio, Phone?

A few would disagree with me, but I would still ask you to keep this game away from your 10 year old kid for at least another 3 years or so. It's not necessary that he will get affected by it but you have to know that a child's mind is open to exploitation and manipulation. Maybe when he's 13, he'll be in a position to differentiate accurately between what's right and what's wrong. Just not yet.

Not to criticise anyone's parenting skills, but my copy of SA has an 18 certificate on it. As well as the violence there are a great many drug references, profane language, corrupt cops, hookers..... - basically all the things that make it such a great game with adult themes. Perhaps try it out yourself first and make an informed decision?

But it easy to get a cheat to allow you to travel all over the State without having to complete the early missions, and that one cheat means you don't have to do the missions, but can 'sight-see' and do all the mini-games.

That would require constant monitoring by the parent to ensure that the kid does not stray off from just the 'sight-seeing'. Instead of going through all that trouble, he can just get a racing game for his kid which can be played by all kids above 3 years of age, especially since he says he wants a game for his kid to just drive around in. There are quite a few open world racing games out there like Need for Speed and my personal favourite, Test Drive Unlimited.

Can you name one.

or better yet

Give a link?

I spent some time searching and I couldn't find any.

Removing sex, violence, language would reduce the game to Sim-City level.

I'm sorry - you're buying it for your 10-year-old?

I brought it when I was in London doing Christmas shopping last year, and there's a giant 18 on the front.

(As for the guy above me - the difference is that you're 17: this person's buying it for someone who's 10.)

The only game that has a Non-Violent mod is GTA III, it was created by Demerest(a member on this forum). It is called the "no weapons mod" and is available here, courtesy of Archive.org, since Dem's site(tfads.com) is temporarily down. But that is the only game that has a mod to make it more suitable for kids. Hope this helps.

Also, I thought V1 of the game was rated "AO" because of the "Hot Coffee" thing, whereas it was removed in V2 and thus V2 was the "M" rated version? I just thought of that, since it was mentioned in this topic. I don't have V1, so I can't confirm either way, but I was going by the fact that they had to change the game in order to avoid an AO rating.

They had an M rating, then because of HC it became an AO rating, then the new release became an M rated game again.

If the kid is brought up right then really there shouldn't be a problem him playing SA. The news on TV are more violent than the game!

Anyway, you can use cheats to remove people from the streets, that's one option.

i think is all about your kid mint it depends on if he is agresive or not or if he knows wath its wrong or right it really dependes on how much did your soon grow up on his mind...

I looked this up. "MA" is for those 17 and older. "AO" is for those 18 or over. What difference is twelve months going to make? (The censors in the United Kingdom and Ireland were saner - it was an 18 from the start. I would have said it just for Ireland, but - as I said in an earlier post - I brought it in London.)
