sonofhendrix
I have had a major problem with my OS windows Vista and have had to do a format reinstall of my C:| drive. I left all my data and the GTAIV installation on my E:\ drive. Not suprisingly on the new install of vista, the old game wont launch, and there is no option to uninstall or remove it either. When i put the disc in and tell it to install it appears to install social club and then it loads another box and says "Your system is incompatible with %P. Please follow the link below for more information" And there is no link just a blue logo that says microsoft and nothing happens if you click it. All i can do is click finish and it just goes around in a loop! I tried lauching the game from the old directory and it took me thru this manual activation thing and unlocked it but still came up with an error,(obviously because some files were deleted when i deleted my old vista installation). I hope this explains my problem and can anyone shed any light on what i need to do. Because i have a sudden and urgent itch to play the game again, after watching "Bourne Supremicy" on tv

sonofhendrix
But wait theres more. !!!! aaaAAAAARRGH!!!! all my windows updates are already UPTO DATE!!!!!!!! i click on windows update and viewd the update HISTORY. Heres what i found Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Upadate (KB951847) x 86 status: Successful 13\05\09 so to conclude my journey into attempting a re-install of GTAIV for the PC. Due to GTA IV FATAL ERROR: RMN20: I am here by unable to play GTAIV because it insists i dont have a windows service pack, which was succesfully installed on my pc last week. I see no obvious solution to the problem so i hereby conclude, GTAIV re-installation was a FAILURE. GOOD NIGHT. oh and i demand my money back! sonofhendrix
Ive had another go at it this morning and i made sure all compatiblity modes were turned off. But of course this still did NOT fix the problem. Im now downloading a 400mb file of service pack 1, which of course wont fix it either, because i already have it!! And on the social club account thing, i tried setting up a new account and, suprise suprise, "ERROR AN ACCOUNT WITH THAT EMAIL AREADY EXISTS" And its the only email i have! God this is infuriating. I have never in my life known a PC game as terrible and error ridden as this. And i thought BF2 was bad!!!!!! NEver again rockstar! COCKSTAR!! FINE. i type in my login and password, and it gives me this message "THE PROFILE COULD NOT BE SIGNED INTO LIVE. THERE MAYBE A NETWORK PROBLEM OR THE WINDOWS LIVE ID SERVICE MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE" AND I CANT PLAY THE FU&$*ING GAME, EVEN IN SINGLE PLAYER" WHAT KIND OF A MOTHER F*%$£*NG GAME DOES NOT ALLOW SAVING OF GAMES ON THE HARD DISK! I DONT HAVE A FIREWALL BLOCKING THE GAME ITS UNBLOCKED I NEVER HAVE PROBLEMS WITH FIRE WALL, IM NOT EVEN RUNNING ANTI VIRUS! DONT BOTHER WITH THIS AWEFUL GAME! NikoCarlTommyFidoJohnson
Hey Man, Calm down! The first thing you should have done, if you could have was revoke the license. If you couldn't, ten onto the next thing. If this E:\ drive only has GTAIV on it, you may have to either remove the folder and reinstall the game on format the drive, and reinstall the game. GTAIV leaves license info on hard drive and it won't work even if you have reformatted OS. That applies to any game installed. It has to be reinstalled after reformating Windows. Step 1 - Check for new updates, install if any and reboot Step 2 - After rebooting either reformat E:\ if GTAIV is only thing on it, or delete files associated with GTA IV on E:\ Step 3 - Next reinstall GTA IV to computer and patch the game. Patch found here http://www.rockstargames.com/support/IV/PC/patch/index.html Step 4 - Defrag hard drive and prepare to launch after defrag. (Activate if prompted) Step 5 - If it launches, assuming you followed steps, you should be able to enjoy. If not... Step 6 - Check for new drivers for Gfx card and download them. Also check for proper way to remove Gfx drivers. (See this http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=397064) Step 7 - After installing new drivers, hopefully it works. If not then

sonofhendrix
ok, maybe i should have deleted all files associated with GTAIV on the E:\ drive before i tried to reinstall i agree. But heres the current problem. Ive finally got the game to launch, but it cannot log into games for windows live. I get an error about the service not available or somthing. And i can think of no obvious solution. Im not disabling windows vista firewall, and i did not need to do that before. The thing is this is all just way too complicated for a GAME! i got confused as hell when reading the website about the revoking the liscence. I mean its as if its designed as a deterrent or somthing. Its designed to confuse and turn people away!

I also keep GTA on another partition in my case it's D: what I did before reinstalling my os was to format that partition using the windows format command, that is after you revoke the License just make sure you have all other programs and such before you format, restart and install your os. And as far as revoking the license just go to start/programs /rockstar games gta iv and hit revoke.
