Tomeron
Hey guys, I would like to know what do I need to upgrade in my computer in order to run GTA IV properly. Note that I already have GTA IV, but it runs very slowly (like, 5 FPS, and lags badly). My current specs are: NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT 2GB RAM (Windows XP) Genuine Intel® CPU 2140 @ 1.60GHz Basically my only problem is the processor. I've also done the test on systemrequirementslab.com and it said the same, the only problem is the processor. My questions are: - What should I upgrade my processor to? Any specific suggestions? - Will the game work smoothly (even on minimum settings, I don't mind) if I upgrade the processor to what you suggested? I know that on most games, the "minimum requirements" aren't really enough - yes, you can run the game with these requirements, but it will lag badly. Thanks for all the help! Tomeron. mortuus
Gta really loves quad cpus.. but u dont need, a decent intel core 2 duo should be enough, and a slightly better graphics card. with my crap system i get like 15-20 fps on most settings to medium with 1280x1024 resolution. ikt
If you have something equavient to a Pentium 4 at 3.8GHz, you'll be able to play the game on about 30 FPS on medium.
Tomeron
Thanks for the extremely fast replies! @mortuus - are you saying that a 1GB GeForce 9500 won't do the job? Are you sure? The minimum settings say 7900+, and 9500 is a lot better than 7900. About the processors: When it comes to processors I have no knowledge at all. I tried searching a bit, and every processor had a speed (MHz) and an FSB (MHz). Which one (minimum 1.8GHz) is the one I need? the processor speed, or the FSB? For example, is this one a good processor: http://computershopper.com/best-prices/pro...or/availability It seems rather cheap, 70$. Is it a good processor/a good price? Hanneswasco
That processor is pretty good, and you will be able to play GTA IV on medium settings with a descent framerate. The videocard you have at the moment is also good enough to play GTA IV on low-medium with a descent framerate, so don't worry about that. And you have to look at the speed (most of the time in GHz, this one is for example 2,5 GHz) if you want to compare with the minimum one.
Tomeron
That's GREAT to hear - I didn't know processors were so cheap! I will go and buy it, probably tomorrow, and update here to tell you if it works well. Thanks a lot for all the help! Tomeron.
OverTheBelow
Yeahh well, I'd recommend a quad core. My GFX card isn't much better than yours, neither my processor, Yet at low 'slider' graphics I get around 45-60 fps. It would be nice to at least get better graphics than consoles with nice fps tbh. I think if you can afford it you should get a quad. You probably won't regret it when even more CPU reliant games come.
CharmingCharlie
You know I was thinking "wouldn't it be great if someone made a systems requirement topic so people could ask whether a certain PC setup runs the game" and then I realised we do have such a topic and I keep linking to it and no one pays a blind bit of attention :- http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=376237 Please keep questions about whether a certain PC configuration can run GTA 4 to that topic.
