Antivirus protection

No anti virus for the last two years and no viruses.

 

Therefore, common sense is the best anti virus.

Same here my friend, I've not had any trouble for a long time really. Last problem I had on my PC was when I clicked a link sent on msn, which infected me with a nasty bit of spyware, but that was through my own stupidity. I haven't had any virus or trojan since then, because I don't download from an unreliable source, and I don't accept random internet traffic coming into my network. Firewalled, yes, antivirus, no!

Spot the Windows users lol.  I don't use any anti-virus because as far as I'm aware, nerds in basements don't bother trying to infect Linux systems.  It's the best.

Nerds are the ones in their basements that use Linux

There are viruses for Linux, just not as well known or wide spread

God damn that sucks, i have F-Secure for my Windows, but i was told that Kubuntu was completely safe, now i'll need to install some good protection for it ASAP.

I've been using Norton anti virus on my laptop since 05. It really slows down the laptop sometimes, & I needn't bother trying to do anything when it's running a full scan. It can be a bit crap too, it's found a few trojans etc... in its time & then basically said ''nah, I can't do sh*t about it'', & i've had to do it manually myself. I'll be getting rid of it when subscription is up.

 

I got this one called 'SuperAntiSpyware pro' on a trial when Norton f*cked me over once more, Norton found 3 infected files & a trojan & said it fixed everything. I ran the new one I found online & it found over 200 infected files & the trojan that Norton said it found & deleted!

 

I recommend SuperAntiSpyware, it's fast, cheap & good, there's a free version or you can get the pro version for a one off payment for quite cheap.

 

But yeah, I only attempt manually if it's a last option.

But SuperAntiSpyware will not protect against viruses. Yes it does some trojan and worm protection, but only a small hand full compared to the army company sized hand full that's out there.

Don't think that by being careful of what you click on and what sites you go to will keep you safe. It's well known that in the past some perfectly safe sites were infected and they in turn (although unknowingly) infected their visitors just by them showing up to their site, and it didn't matter what browser they used (although those using IE were more likely to get it).

I had problems with antivirus software so I dont need anymore.I'm clean as whistle.

I think you will sound different in a fe wmonths, how can you actually say that your pc is clean? There is no scanner so nothing can be confirmed.

 

If you only use the internet to check mail and bank online, then you can do pretty much without.

 

I Never ever go on the net without a viruss canner, i download lotso of things, and without a scanner i never know if they are clean or not.
