Vigilante in the HUNTER

Awesome! First, a good method for stealing the HUNTER from the Army depot: Land a Maverick on one of the roofs in the compound, approach from the ocean WEST to EAST- no wanted level, no soldiers! Now just drop down to the HUNTER and fly away with it.

I accidentally activated Vigilante with it and thought "Freak this, it's got to be impossible" but I gave it a go anyway and went to level 20 with 25 minutes built up, plus the cops couldn't get me.

After a few levels all the levels started spawning at the same spot near the airport which made it even easier. I only quit 'cause I got bored with success.

Freakin' awesome!

Arguably, the Hunter is actually the best vehicle to use in order to complete Vigilante missions. It's extremely fast, extremely powerful, has very good handling, you also have the advantage of being in the air; meaning less traffic. And it is fitted with twin rockets & Machine guns, which, when fired towards a criminal, are both deadly accurate and simply... deadly!

The Hunter is a fantastic vehicle to have some fun in, and you could be at vigilante missions all day and beyond, providing everything goes right for you. Spuds725 has in the past tested this out, to try and make it so that the criminals, at a certain point during the Vigilante, will constantly begin to spawn in the exact same spot; the airport. Here is his posted up method (It's a long read, but worth it all the same). I think the images are down, but that shouldn't make understanding the contents any more difficult. Arguably, even by using this method, the spawn point of the criminals is still random, but after a few attempts, they should hopefully spawn in that exact spot. When that does happen, it can provoke lots of fun... and even more money!

If you do this right, it will only take you a total of three hundred and ninety-one levels completed to fully max out your money ($999,999,999). This doesn't take long at all if the criminals spawn in the same spot (barring the odd couple). Three hundred and ninety-one levels might seem a lot to you at this point, but believe me, it isn't difficult at all to complete, and won't take you much longer than an hour to do, Besides, you'll reap the rewards with the amount of money you can earn. The limit doesn't stop there either; I've completed nearly seven hundred levels before stopping because of a real life issue, I know Spuds has completed two thousand three hundred and sixty-three levels, which does take some going but can be done. And a member called Hell No.. (suitable username tounge.gif) has actually completed over four thousand eight hundred levels of Vigilante! There really is no limit (Though you'd have to be careful about your money going into the minuses if you ever decided to go on a vigilante marathon).

Regarding tips on how to successfully retrieve the Hunter, if you have completed the mission Copland, go into the VCPD HQ and pick up the cop uniform. It is the safest option since no soldier will shoot at you if you enter the base wearing one, whereas if you enter by helicopter, simply hovering over the base is enough to provoke the soldiers to open fire on you. And running is even more of a risk (see my tested methods here for more details)!

Have you yet given Vigilante mission a go in the Rhino? It can be just as fun as the Hunter, simply because it is almost indestructible (The only way it can be destroyed is with fire), and whenever it comes into contact with any other vehicle different to it's own, it will immediately destroy it. It's also got a turret with rockets attached, and if you turn the turret around 180°, then constantly press the 'fire' button, the Rhino becomes, undoubtedly, the fastest land vehicle on the entire game.

Police uniform, eh? My experience led me to believe that what Tommy wears has no effect since gang members will shoot at him no matter what. Good info, thanks. The method I described is also very quick, no felony, though sometimes soldiers are near the HUNTER which requires a 'leave and return' to reset the area. While dropping down next to the HUNTER with a Maverick (or one of the Sparrows) and flying away with the HUNTER, still no felony.

All uniforms will have no effect on how gangs act around you, except for the cop uniform. You can actually walk up to a group of soldiers, stand in between them and listen to their conversation with your cop uniform on; it's great! That in-turn makes retrieving the Hunter/Rhino all too easy. Be forewarned though, the cop uniform is only effective with the soldiers, any other gang, primarily the Haitians, will still treat you as vermin.

You certainly do not have to be wanted by the law, or commit a felony for the soldiers to open fire on you. I would assume that if a cop was in the proximity of you, just when you are about to steal a Hunter, they will see the felony and take action. It happens when you steal a Rhino, that's for sure.

Forgive me for being a bit off topic but I notice that after 1000 levels of Vigilante in the Hunter, it becomes indestructable except to Rhino tanks. I've tried shooting my rocket launcher missiles and Minigun bullets at it and it hasn't exploded. I didn't feel like putting this in the garage because I can just get it again but I also have a feeling that the DP/BP/FP/EP special properties will disappear once it's put inside the garage.

What's your take on this Flicko? GTA_Loco, if you're reading this, I hope to hear your reply. smile.gif

Do you mean after one thousand consecutive non-stop levels? Or just accumulate one thousand Vigilante levels completed in the Hunter, not all in one go?

In any case, I wouldn't really know, since I've never actually completed one thousand consecutive levels, nor have I accumulated one thousand levels complete in the Hunter, as I much prefer the Rhino. I'm sure Spuds may have something to say on this, as one of his fifteen thousand + completed vigilante levels must have been completed in the hunter. wink.gif

I've never heard anything mentioned about this though, and wouldn't expect Rockstar to implement such a thing into the game. Still, if it does bode true, it would go down as a useful glitch/bug of sorts (which, in the past, have been discovered by gamers), and it will be very interesting indeed; something that could be beneficial to other gamers. I may try this out myself, but if I do, I wouldn't expect a reply in the next couple of days, at least! tounge2.gif

Vigilante missions with Hunter are very easy!

It does massive damage.

OT: How many of you have blown up a plane with your Hunter? If I´m correct then it´s some kinda Dodo, that flies in the sky with a "sign" on the back.

If u blow it up, you get 3-star wanted level as well.

There´s lots of fun with the Hunter! biggrin.gif

It isn't indestructible, but what happens is for each level completed, it adds back some health to the chopper-- and as long as you don't keep damaging it, the health will go above 100%-- and continue accumulating for that vehicle... I'm relatively certain that this is "health" and not "armor" for the vehicle as I had a hunter relatively damaged early in a brownthunder run and I took some fire from the police heli or something and it caught fire just before I completed a level, I kept firing and finished the level and the added health actually put the fire out in the heli and I was able to continue (did not blow up).

So what occurs is your vehicle accumulates added health and becomes virtually indesctructible-- if you had the time or the weapons you would eventually blow it up by shooting at it... I did about 800-900 levels one time and it took around 80 or 100 rockets to blow it up (finally)-- you will need to wedge it against a building or something so you don't blow it away from you when you fire at it.

It is possible the health value will be retained if you try to store the hunter in a garage-- you could even fly it in there hitting everything with all that extra health you accumulated wink.gif , it may not though-- this is something worth investigating... if you ever do try brown thunder to a high level again I urge you to save it and test it out... and would be grateful if you could post your results back here somewhere or send me a PM.

This sounds like something Demarest would be able to look up for us if he were still active on here-- could probably tell you what % is added back per level or something.

I'm relatively certain this will occur for any vehicle doing R3 missions (taxi, firefighter, paramedic, pizzaboy)-- you can obviously take the hunter to much higher levels-- I've brought an ambulance back from smoking by completing levels is why I think this is what is occurring for the other vehicles as well.

HTH...

PS Reading back over the thread... the police uniform does not make you immune to the soldiers wrath... try aiming an auto aim weapon at them and you will see what happens. They will ignore you though if you start picking them off with the sniper rifle-- although you will get a wanted level, however I don't believe the cops will enter fort baxter, so you will only need to avoid the police heli-- if you stay under cover, the police heli will fly away---- there are some "tents" in the NE corner if you want to try this out. I used this method before when accumulating headshots for the original recordbook I participated in over at gtplanet.net.

Yup it was a 1025 level run to be exact. Non stop.

If only Spuds posted here before I saved and loaded the game, I would have posted results! cry.gif

Not to worry buddy. But for future reference, if you ever decide to go on a colossal Brown Thunder run again, have this topic bookmarked and feel free to give it a bump at any time you feel like it. I'm sure that me and Spuds won't be the only ones who will appreciate what you come back with. I may give this a go myself one day, but finding time to do such a big task might be difficult for me. If I do find the time, I'll also be sure to bump this topic up with an explanation of my results.

Thanks for the info Spuds. Cops do spawn in Fort Baxter Airbase, but, in my experience, they only spawn in the open area where the Rhino can be found - they do not spawn anywhere else in the base. When they do spawn though, if you have a high wanted level, you may find yourself bombarded by about four or five of them shooting you down, so it would be best to venture elsewhere in the base to evade them.

Kalev, yeah, there is a Dodo in the air that advertises the local newspaper; Vice Voice. It has a banner attached to the back of it, which is basically the front page of the paper made large and almost unreadable. I enjoy taking it down with the Hunter - the explosion it creates is a spectacle!

Wow I didn't know that you could blow up the Dodo advertising Vice Voice. I tried it out and got a wanted level. Awesome stuff. I thought you couldn't blow it up because you were able to fly through it like the Police Maverick. Can you do that to the Police Maverick that flies around? Not the one that chases you when you have three star wanted level or above.

Only the one wanted star? You should immediately receive a two-star wanted level for shooting the Dodo, and when it does eventually blow up you should get an additional star, taking your tally up to three. I've never only received one wanted star for destroying it, though.

I have tried blowing up the Police Maverick that flies around, but to this day have never been successful. So, basing it off my experience; no, you cannot destroy it with the Hunter's rockets.

Oh I see. Well about the wanted level, I was doing Brown Thunder and I had like a one star wanted level on me and when I blew up the Dodo, it went up to two stars.

I could be wrong though, since I have only ever verified this on one version of the PS2 platform, so feel free to keep trying to blow the thing up. The chopper seems less alive to me, as if it's being hurdled along the sky by a string, but the Dodo does actually feel like it belongs in the game. I don't know why, but that might be the reason that you cannot blow the chopper up; it's more of a showpiece thane anything else.

major underscore

Lots of interesting info on the Hunter Vigilante/Brown Thunder mission. smile.gif I haven't even tried getting such extreme levels as you guys, but having an almost indestructible Hunter does sound sweet indeed.

If anyone reading this thread would like to know how to get the Hunter while wearing the cop uniform, I created a video tutorial on this a couple of years ago.

How To Get The Hunter In 3 Minutes:

I also created a little Brown Thunder challenge that you may want to have a go at (without any fancy airport spawning tricks, please). smile.gif

Brown Thunder/Vigilante challenge:

PS: Note that in the challenge video above at 1:39 I almost got hit by that crazy Dodo you guys were talking about... biggrin.gif

How To Get The Hunter In 3 Minutes:

How calm and collected - casually jogging whenever you're on foot, slowly descending & ascending the chopper; it doesn't get more easy-going than that! I'm sure you'd be able to do it a lot quicker than that as well, so, would you mind if I added that custom challenge into my Can you do it..? topic?

The same goes for your second posted video - both would make for fantastic challenges, and might spark a little revival in the topic. Oh and, had you collided with the Dodo, you would have sailed straight through it, as it only appears solid when being shot at with Rockets.

Sure, that sounds like a good idea. Go ahead and add them both if you want to.

That's good to know. I got a little shook up when I recorded that video when suddenly a Dodo came out of nowhere.

Hey I tried exploding the Dodo with Hunter missiles again and I got a three star wanted level! That's crazy. I thought it was going to be a two star wanted level. It's pretty funny to see the Vice Voice advertisement go down like it's getting sucked into a vortex.

It sure is! Though I'd prefer the thing to be out of the sky; the banner has been stretched to the point of making it unreadable to all! I still find it strange that you only received a one-star wanted level initially, which is something that has never happened to me.
