Dingdongs
Link Isn't that just ridiculous? Now they're actually able to see you naked while scanning people? Airport security is hideously invasive if you ask me ( I also question it's effectiveness ) .. A friend of mine has sworn off airplanes altogether since she got dragged away for half an hour of questioning by Homeland Security agents after forgetting to move a container of homemade raspberry jam from her carry-on to her checked bags. Sorry, but it's going a little far. Edited May 18, 2009 by Irviding
agent17
It doesn't surprise me, it's fairly easy for an average sized citizen to effectively hide a makeshift weapon between their folds of fat, as disturbingly real and somewhat frequent this risk is. Runey
Its just gigantic paranoia since 9/11. You know, if you fly a lot, you must be a terrorist.
Bartleby
The truly sad part is how ineffective it all is. For all the things they do in a perverse attempt to protect people from would-be terrorists, it's really just a big waste of the people's time. If someone wants to smuggle a weapon aboard a plane bad enough, they're going to smuggle that weapon aboard the plane one way or another; TSA is far from perfect (though I'm sure that's no revelation to anyone). All this bullsh*t we have to put up with is just about attempting to create a false sense of security.
General Goose
It seems this only applies to America. As my only flights have been a couple from London to Pescara in Italy, I think I'm safe. But it is ludicrous, unnecessary, unfair and stupid. And it seems something that could come to the UK. Rebel
The only thing that really annoys me about the new regulations is the fact even if you are on a busy flight you have to go through checkout with the whole taking off your shoes and everything metal ( which is a pain for me since my jeans basically fall down without one ) and I even had to go all the way back again because I had my hoodie on..Its the whole rush of taking your sh*t off, then having to try and put it all back on when there's about 50 other people in the same area trying to do the same. Still, me and my mum got stopped after our carry on went through xray because we had a bottle of I forget what its called the pink medication liquid. We got stopped for that even though the bottle itself was under the right 125ml limit.

Lantyz
I wouldn't call myself a frequent flyer, but I have been on a few planes the last couple of years and I got increasingly annoyed by how ridiculously serious those airport security guys take themselves. I understand they need to know who I am and I can live with the checking for weapons. What I don't understand is why I should show my passport several times to several people, even in the freaking tube to the plane! Are they suspecting I underwent plastic surgery while my plane was delayed? It's even more ridiculous when you have to go through the whole circus of taking your shoes off, scanning your bag and show your ID when you're changing planes without even leaving the airport. Perhaps they're checking you didn't buy a bomb at the tax free-shop? I really wouldn't mind walking through this body scan if it could save me all this paranoid hassle, but somehow I doubt this will be the case. Kaj.
Big f*cking deal. Personally, I couldn't give two sh*ts if someone saw a black and white outline of the curves of my body. That's all those scans seem to show. And if you're feeling sensitive about your body because you have a small dick or something, the person running the machine can't see the screen, and the person who sees the screen can't see you. So all they're thinking is "Hah, that indiscriminate, unknown individual has a pretty small cock". If all this technology makes you uncomfortable, grow a pair, deal with it. K^2
It seems this only applies to America. As my only flights have been a couple from London to Pescara in Italy, I think I'm safe. Actually, they are planning to put the same systems to use at least in UK, perhaps other places in Europe as well. The system has been around for quite some time. Backscatter X-Ray is a very interesting idea, and yeah, essentially, it's the X-Ray glasses that Sci-Fi movies promised us. It's just more bullsh*t. They are trying to create an illusion of safety without any real improvements to the safety. I can hide everything I need to bring down the plane inside a laptop, and neither the X-Ray nor the mass spectrum will pick any of it up. Prior to filing a bug against any of my code, please consider this response to common concerns.
Shaunr
Sounds very legit. The person seeing you can't even see your face, and the images look pretty crappy as well. don't see why anyone would have a problem with this method.

K^2
Actually, laptops are checked separately So? It still goes through the X-Ray scanner. They don't take it apart. I've never seen anyone open up a HDD bay to see if it's actually a HDD in there or a stick of C4. Even if they do, they certainly won't be taking the HDD itself apart. If you leave some of the mechanics within, it will look like normal HDD on X-Ray. And most laptops can be booted from a memory stick, so it will run fine even without a real working HDD. Now, tell me how they'll prevent something like this? Keeping in mind that 100g of C4 is more than enough to make a hole in the compartment and make the whole plane structurally unstable, almost certainly causing a crash. Also, shoulder-launched rockets aren't as hard to come by as you might think. It'd be a lot easier to take out a plane that way then trying to carry something on board. The real reason we don't see a lot of terrorist attacks is because there aren't a lot of people who actually want to blow up the planes. With the way things have been going lately, you are much more likely to be victim of clueless pilot than a crafty terrorist. And it's no credit to TSA. What bugs me is the fact that we have another needless security check at the airport. One that will not save lives, but will make us wait in longer lines to create a fake sense of security for some mindless drones. F*ck that. Dr.pay'n spray
It's really funny how as soon as this comes up, certain people would automatically want to try to assure you that their dicks are huge, and therefore they don't care, as if anybody in a forum full of guys is really supposed to give a sh*t, never the less the girls here. I'm just going to theorize that the first person who brought up, or implied a dick issue, I'm going to assume thought of it first because he's insecure about it. But besides all that, human rights violation! Ramble ramble ramble. My dick's small, ramble ramble.

No. I would rather take my chances with Mohamed and whatever's in his backpack without either one of us getting subjected to a full body search. Hands or X-Ray makes no difference. You say that now, but I'm willing to bet my left nut that if you were on a highjacked airliner with a couple of suicide bombers that got weapons on the plane that a pat-down couldn't find, your whole view of these full body scanners would turn right the f*ck around. All of the people who are complaining that it's an invasion of your privacy or human rights, it really isn't. All the TSA is doing is trying to streamline the security checks while maintaining the same level of security. And if you think of one of these scans as a full body search, it's completely unlike a search. There's no latex gloves, no "please come with me, sir", no actual physical contact. You go stand on a pad for 30 seconds, and you're done. Also, last time I checked, pat downs and searches were only conducted if you beeped through the metal scanners, so this isn't something every person has to do. Believe it or not, it's a safety measure that tries to keep you safe, it's not intended to be a pain. Most people's point of view on the subject is just f*cked up.
