Lochie_old
I honestly wouldn't bank so much on this BUYA being overly successful. It took a long time before BUYG got anywhere. Still is taking awhile, even when it changed numerous hands, and even know when theres a group of people moderating it. So anyway, I'm going to re-write chapter 1 of The Earth Is Not a... but also post chapter 2 by the end of the weekend, it should be much longer then the first one was originally. Do you guys find music helps you write?
vinnygorgeous
Do you guys find music helps you write? Not always silence is the best, or a film based around the subject matter, gets the accents and the style of dialogue in your mind.
Oxidizer
I like your mercenary idea a lot, Jacky + General, though if it's a joint operation ordered by the CIA and MI5 wouldn't the operatives have less foreign names? Or have they pulled foreign soldiers from their countries and formed a clandestine group of mercenaries, like a covert operation? Regarding music: it helps inspire and/or motive me, but when it comes to actually writing it's quite a distraction.
El Zilcho
Those mercenary characters sound badass! Especially Konstantin, he sounds especially cool. Osric, we can't rush BUYA. If we do, should it fail then we would have been asking for it. But, should we take our time then maybe a quality piece of work will come out of it, and we won't have such a sinking project to keep afloat. Ya'll feel me? The CIA and MI5, not wanting to risk anything, decides to send them to Afghanistan to do some work. Music: Despite the fact I love all genres of music, I tend to listen to only relaxing or lyric-less music when writing, such as video game music. When doing other stuff, I listen to whatever. Oxidizer
This track inspired You're the Blade; I listened to it whilst playing GTA III in July '08 then the whole storyline for YtB just hit me out of the blue. Well, they are a group of famed mercenaries. The CIA and MI5, not wanting to risk anything, decides to send them to Afghanistan to do some work. Ah. So it is a clandestine op. I like. Lethal Nizzle
I find watching scenarios in films help me write; for example if I'm writing an army-inspired piece I watch Black Hawk Down, or Band of Brothers for something WW2. But with music, I find letting your mind work in silence works best.

Lethal Nizzle
Believe it or not the multiplayer level "Valhalla" from Halo 3 inspired my Tranquil Gulch piece. I still need to get the redux of the piece up, but I'm struggling to smuggle my coursework folder out of school.
Omnia sunt Communia
I like your mercenary idea a lot, Jacky + General, though if it's a joint operation ordered by the CIA and MI5 wouldn't the operatives have less foreign names? Or have they pulled foreign soldiers from their countries and formed a clandestine group of mercenaries, like a covert operation? As General Goose said, the mercenaries were already part of an group before being hired by the CIA/MI5. They come from all over the world (expect members from India, Israel, Holland & Ireland as well) and have varying backgrounds; both in and out of the warzone. The contract will be a secret mission carried out without the public or even President's knowledge. Music: I find working in total silence is the only way I can write. I usually have to turn off all music, MSN pop-ups, television shows or anything else for that matter in order for my mind to work. I have been known to use the soundtrack to 28 Days Later inspire me when I'm writing something zombie based (quite a lot, for those of you who know me). Omnia sunt Communia
This is the profile for Garret Hyde, another member of my crew of mercenaries mentioned earlier: Garret Hyde: Hailing from Belfast, Northern Island, Garret left the country prior to the beginnings of The Troubles in order to join the British Army. When his battallion was deployed to Northern Ireland in 1969 he recieved harsh critiscism from his friends and family; being branded a traitor and disowning him. Many of the people he knew from his childhood were Catholic separatists and members of the IRA, turning them into the enemy for Garret. Following a successful tour in Northern Ireland, Hyde was offered a place in the Special Air Service (SAS). He accepted, hoping that it would lower the chance of him returning to his homeland for a second tour of duty. While a member of the SAS he took part in several high risk operations including the Pebble Island Raid and several missions during the first Gulf Conflict. Garret left the SAS in 1997 and turned to mercenary work; for monetary gain. He has not returned to Ireland since his last tour of duty and seeks never to go back there. Omnia sunt Communia
Me neither. I've been watching the trailers for Modern Warfare 2 and that has really got me in the mood for something like that. I might even start writing it tonight if I can find time or motivation.

Osric
I get what you're saying, I was thinking, we do need to iron out the kinks. Also, I was thinking of re-joining BUYG in a few weeks, once I can get a story fully worked out, just not sure if it should be for the Korean Mob or one of the Mafia Families. This may be off-topic, but I was thinking we should add the Ancelottis or another property for the Gambettis. Edited May 27, 2009 by Osric

Ciabatta
Do you guys find music helps you write? Not always silence is the best, or a film based around the subject matter, gets the accents and the style of dialogue in your mind. Jazz music always helps me to write my modern pieces. For my Western I just put "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" theme on repeat and go to work. But usually jazz it what gets me going. I got a whole playlist of stuff from Charles Mingus, Sonny Rollins, Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Gil Scott-Heron, Ornette Coleman, Dave Brubeck, etc. It puts me in a good mood and I think that jazz is one of those musical forms that actually helps your thought process just as classical music is to some people. Silence always works as well.
El Zilcho
I don't mind what's on. I love anything with a beat to it; so whatever sounds good I can work with. but nothing beat some old silence to work with. U R B A N I T A S
Tyla
Good to hear that the Ancelotti's are getting added to IV BUYG, i'd definatly be interested in writing for them. I'm still trying to find something to write for the Forelli's. I've lost a lot of momentum in having a virus and having to wipe my pc, as I had a lot of random ideas/thoughts saved into word documents. But i'll think of something. One character i'm working on is Mayor R.C Hole, who true to his name is going to be an arsehole. He needs to be manipulative and greedy, reminicant of Franco Forelli himself. I've been thinking about reading up on Jimmy Hoffa, to draw some inspiration.
Osric
The one thing I don't like about IV BUYG is gangs starting off with a Micro SMG. A pistol is fine, but a Micro SMG seems a little overpowered for a new gang. Plus, the Ancelottis are weak, so give them a bat and a pistol to start off instead of a Micro SMG. El Zilcho
It's not a definite, but I know what to give the Ancelottis. Micro SMG is fine, in stories its balanced. U R B A N I T A S

vinnygorgeous
If the Ancelottis are added to BUYG the staff should be more careful with locations than they have been in the past, take the recycling plant which dozens of people have already said is an Ancelotti operation, yet it remains a Pegorino base, why not replace it with Pizza This in Alderney which is indicated in the game, in To Live And Die Alderney, to actually be a Pegorino controlled restaurant. Also having the Pegorinos control the Garbage disposal Inc base also does not make sense, ok they go there in one mission but do you honestly believe a small out of state mafia family would control the garbage carting in Algonquin. And in my family the Pavanos have two of the three locations right next to each other, it does not make sense. Also I agree with starting with a pistol instead of a micro SMG it makes more sense for a first weapon.
El Zilcho
Ancelottis would have the Fruit Markets, The Salvage Yard which they hold the meet at, and possibly Maisonette 9 night club. U R B A N I T A S
vinnygorgeous
Give them the recycling plant, no one occupies it just take it out of Pegs and give it, I don't think Maisonette 9 is a good location it belongs to Gay Tony.
