I watched Avatar today for the first time. Now, like always, I want to write a science fiction story. I've got a 101 ideas in my head though; none of them finished. I don't want to just write a science fiction fan fiction, so coming up with a fictional universe is going to be a big part of the story.

I know Unvirginiser did a good, quality science fiction story a while back. Has any one else written anything sci-fi based? Any tips?

Craig and I had Supply/Demand going on. Though we never finished it, we had a lot more sketched out than what we ended up posting. Regarding your specific statement though, and based on what we encountered when planning things out, don't get too wrapped up in creating your world and all that. We spent a lot of time on that. And it was pretty unnecessary. I mean, it's good to do. But story always comes first. Always.

So, as for my narrative, should I continue with my original idea of Liberty City by Night? Or should I do something different?

I have a lot of ideas.

Basically, Liberty City By Night is a GTA IV/World of Darkness Crossover. If you don't know what the World of Darkness is, it's a universe that originated in the role-playing game Vampire: The Masquerade and expanded further.

For more details, look up World of Darkness on Wikipedia.

Other ideas in general include finishing one of my unfinished narratives(Liberty City Legends and Army Men), doing a new narrative altogther, and of course another BUY_, but it probably won't be called BUY_, unless it's a parody game.

These are the ideas.....

Legends of Anime(Think BUY, but with a massive anime crossover)

The Sopranos: La Cosa Nostra(Sopranos BUYG)

Tales of Valor(A new BUYA)

Requiem of Night(A World of Darkness BUYG, with vampire societies)

And finally....

Build Up Your Army: Army Men(A Game of Shameless Self-Parody)

Can I please, please just leave it at that this time?

Okay, so no on any BUY game of any kind for now.

Back to the narratives, Liberty City By Night or a continuation of Army Men or Liberty City Legends?

Dude, we went overboard. That isn't to say we got ahead of ourselves because we did actually make some good progress and got a fair bit through, but we just became swamped and thought it best to leave it. I don't know if it'll grow/evolve into anything else, not really thought about it. I'm sure Phil has solo ideas he wants to pursue too. I enjoyed it though, and that's key.

As for my own sci-fi stories, I've written one which I one day plan to rewrite (Room Service, way way back, about 12 months ago I think, I'll dig the link up if anyone's too lazy interested) and of course after watching Avatar, I too ran out of the cinema shouting "lol blue people" and wanted to pen my own epic but it never held much water really.

I've been toying around lately - I've never fully gone through with a story, I've never added all the right elements to make it right. I never have. But I've been trying to better myself, getting plotlines going and toying around with sh*t. It's time I started taking this writing thing seriously - Since I'm pursuing the career of a; Screenwriter, Novelist, artsy living etc etc.

I'm trying to push myself harder now, writing with heavier planning, trying to develop my skills. I'm currently planning Portland Chase's plot and I'm really thinking of writing a sequelesque style script/novel to The Girl Next Door, Iunno but I seem to enjoy watching it alot lately - and not just because of Elisha Cuthbert happy.gif

The film was good and I'm constantly trying to see where I could take a sequel...call me a idiot, call me a freak. Things like that inspire me. So if you are interested. Good smile.gif

So you're essentially looking to go back to fan fiction?

Yes. A risky Amatuer move but I should push myself in the direction I'm good at.

Lol, a few in mind.

A genuine horror - not like all this new 'Overdramatic acting sh*t' but a real one. It focuses on a woman's strife as she begins to work late nights, a british janitor befriends her and protects her from the evergrowing sexual harrasment she recieves.

A girl next door Sequel; more of a novel then a script. If you've seen the movie; the protagonist Matthew Kidman has slipped into Alcoholism due to his evergrowing race to become president; neglecting the very beautiful Danielle and killing their true loved relationship. The film takes place 7 years after the first movie. Eli has become a top class porn director, creating global smash hits. Klitz has become an unhappily married man - wedded to a controlling bitch who demeans him in any way. Matthew has left Georgetown university - and is slowly slipping into the political depression that he spent his whole life working towards. Danielle has left the porn industry behind and has become a shelled version of her former self - not living impulsively like she taught Matthew too. As things slowly get worse at home a new protagonist shows Danielle that she can too turn back into the girl who 'Just goes with it.'

Sides that...I aint got a f*cking clue. I need help with my writing!

cool you ever seen the chilean crime film Tony Manero. Its about a seedy chilean criminals whos obsessed with the character of Tony Manero from saturday night fever. Its just so messed up, he does a poo on a guys suit!. Youre first script, the horror one reminded me of it a bit. Or let the right one in a swedish vampire iflm orignnally a book about a castrated boy who became a vampire and a girl lives with a peado who kills people for her so she can drink there blood. I dont do it justice, but that is genuine horror and pretty brutal, it has real life themes such as drugs, body issues, puberty, peadophlia etc but also this kinda twisted love story in the middle, it made me cry, such a powerful film and you really sympathise with Oskar the main character. It has some pretty well done scenes in it, the shocking scenes such as the dismemberement of the bullies or a look at Elis underdeveloped genital scarring are done well. Like it'll build up to the moment and you'll see a brief glimpse of it but never the whole thing, much like they did in aliens. I seriously recommend it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Let_the_Right_One_In

or if youre too lazy to click the link heres the synopsis (the book by the way, but the film is 95% accurate to the book)

Oskar is a 12-year-old-boy who is being bullied at school. He lives with his mother, who is loving and with whom he initially seems to have a good connection. His father is an alcoholic who lives out in the countryside. Oskar seems intelligent, has morbid interests including crime and forensics and keeps a scrap book filled with newspaper cuttings about murders. He befriends who he thinks is a new girl who moved in next door - Eli. Eli lives with an older man Håkan, a former teacher who was fired and became a homeless vagrant when he was discovered to be a paedophile. Eli is revealed to be a vampire, but the two children develop a close relationship and Eli helps Oskar fight back against his tormentors. Throughout the book their relationship gradually becomes closer and they reveal more of themselves and in particular Eli's lengthy history.

Håkan serves Eli, whom he loves, by procuring blood from the living, fighting against his conscience and choosing victims who he can physically trap, but who are not too young. Eli gives him money for doing this, though Håkan makes it clear he would do it for nothing if Eli allowed them to be physically intimate. Eli keeps the money in several boxes, along with a variety of different puzzles. These, apart from a few items of clothing and food, are all that fill the apartment. After several failures to acquire enough blood for Eli, Håkan offers to go out one last time if they can spend the night together. With the caveat that he may only touch Eli, they agree, but it is stipulated that Håkan must get the blood first.

Håkan's attempt to get blood from the last victim fails, and he disfigures himself on purpose with acid to avoid the police tracing Eli through him. When Eli finds Håkan in the hospital, he offers his own blood and is drunk dry while sitting on the window ledge. A guard interrupts them and Eli fails to kill him (so that he will not end up becoming a vampire such as Eli) before Håkan throws himself out of the window, bursting upon the ground below. The fall kills him, but he is later resurrected as a vampire himself, though one that is mindless and seeks only to find Eli. Eli is trapped briefly in a basement, but manages to escape. Håkan is later beaten to death. Meanwhile Lacke suspects a child is responsible for the murder of his best friend, Jocke (whom Eli murdered for blood before snapping his neck). Later, he sees Eli as a small, shapeless creature who lunges from the trees at his sometimes girlfriend, Virginia. Eli attempts to drink her blood, but is interrupted by Lacke's interference. Virginia succumbs to vampirism, but does not realize her "infection" until after she attempts to prolong her life by drinking her own blood and avoiding the sun, which turns her skin into boils upon exposure. In the hospital Virginia deliberately exposes herself to daylight and bursts into flames.

After Oskar fights back and injures his main tormentor, the boy's older brother hunts down and attempts to maim him in revenge. Eli rescues Oskar, and the two flee the city with the remaining money, puzzles and each other.

no offense but i doubt you'll be able to get the rights to it. Also why not make your own universe than steal an already made one. what happens if the original writer doesn't like your story idea, or if none of the original actors want to do it. Come up with something original because the chances of it being made are slim and the chances of it being good are even slimmer.

The chances are slim; it being good - is slim. and I never doubt I'd get rights to it. So all of this is just to help my 'Screenwriting' practice. smile.gif

I'm an amatuer - no f*ck that. I suck, I'm completely sh*t. Now I enjoy the film and more or less there's probably a 10% chance it would ever become a successful piece of screenwrite. However, It's all practising - Just because Unvirginiser wrote 'San Andreas Stories.' (Whick f*cking rocked harder than a mountain!) doesn't mean he'd ACTUALLY want it to become a game. It would blow my mind if I got the rights, the story worked and It was actually good! But that won't stop me.

However - me being me and me getting feedback I usually get here, I'm sure it wouldn't work.

Fan fiction will get you about as far as not writing, to be honest.

S.D. Perry. Drew Karpyshyn. Jude Watson. Dave Wolverton.

They all wrote 'Fan Fiction' got it published aswell. smile.gif

I'm only grabbing at the fact that you mentioned SD Perry, as I've read some of her novels, so I'm simply basing this on what I know of her. But I'm pretty sure she'd have been commissioned to write those. They weren't fan-fiction, necessarily; those cases are more novelisations.

You enjoyed the film, but it seems a bit strange to go to so much effort. Why not write what you have in mind for your sequel, but just ... make it original. It makes no sense.

Because Em' I'd see the whole thing and think - Y'know it just seems too identical.

I'd have to make a whole FIRST plot to go behind the SECOND plot (Which is what I have.)

S.D.Perry's work is using the same characters in the same universe correct? There is no, and I'm highlighting the No to emphasise this screenplay will probably never...ever...ever ever ever ever...ever...become a movie - but my mind has been flicking through and through and I'm making a decent plotline. I know I'm putting in alot of effort but you all seem to miscontrude my motive.

I'm not putting all this effort in in the fact 'I Weel Become a movie king!' I'm writing it because It's a screenwriting practice. It's helpful and I really enjoy it.

On another note I have a question to all writer's on this forum:

Whaddya' guys do besides Writing? I'm starting Ice skating again, but I'd like to know (even the great Eminence's) Hobbies besides writing.

Hope all goes well with your practice screeplay, I need some writing practice myself to get me in the groove again.

As for hobbies, I like reading, role-playing games(such as Dungeons & Dragons, Vampire: The Requiem, etc.), anime, and good movies. My favorite movie is probably The Godfather. Second favorite would be a tie between Casino and Tombstone.

Are they the archive things in libraries? I can't say I have, but that sounds really interesting. I'd like to take a look at that sort of thing myself actually, see what things were like back then.
