I had a better idea, a famine struck Russia and much like the French Revolution, the starving masses blamed the government. So Gregor Ushi(I changed his name if that's okay) rallied the people, feeding and arming them. Moscow broke into riots, the Kremlin was destroyed by the rioters, and Putin was dragged into the streets, beaten. and hanged by the masses. It signaled the end of the Russian Federation and the beginning of Novaya Russia. But then a civil war began between the White Army of the ruling Czar, Gregor Ushi, and the Red Army of Mikhail Zhukov's communist coup.

Mikhail Zhukov will very much be the entire focus of the world war, he is directly responsible for flaring up further conflicting in a then peaceful Russia, stealing and distributing nuclear warheads from Siberian silos, financing and supplying like minded terrorist in the Middle East, sparking a war there too, playing the Asian countries against each other until further war breaks out, and using rebels in South America to threaten North America and further the chaos he strives to cause; in order to fully establish a Soviet Russia again. Zhukov is also responsible for the invasion of Europe, a key point in the war.

Sounds good, Zhukov is an interesting villain indeed. BUYA will be a success, I can feel it. It'll take a while, but I know it will work.

Ah yes, for anyone interested, Zhukov will organize the first shots of the war, an all out offensive on a South Korean military base by North Korean and his own forces.

Yeah, but this is a cold war that actually turns into a hot war.

Communists are pitted as the bad guy in 99.9% of all war stories. Pretty much every piece of military fiction uses them as the epitome for evil; and to be frank, it's getting old. If you took a real interest in global politics you'd understand that the real threat is not from organized governments but splinter groups - not to mention al-Qeada and the Taleban.

Countries rarely goto war with eachother anymore due to advanced government and the fear of nuclear reprisall. The only wars that are going on today tend to be civil or inner-wars and the United States throwing it's weight around on the global playground.

There's a reason that there hasn't been a World War since 1947 and that is because it would render the world dead. Technology has advanced to a point where if all hell where to break loose we'd all be dead before we even knew war were declared.

You're choice of countries is also laughable. The major players in world politics are the permanant members of the UN Security Council: China, France, Russian Federation, United Kingdom & United States (who are all close allies) and any nation with a nuclear arsenal (those previous five plus: India, Pakistan & North Korea). Those are the people who would really pull the strings in an all-out war.

Fair point. Communists as archetypal geniuses is old and inaccurate. However, it'll still be interesting and fun to participate in.

Who says Communists are going to be evil? Zhukov may use terrorist methods, but so would any other faction. You write as them; there are no villains. Only writers. tounge.gif They won't be portrayed as villains, just as another faction. Zhukov may be evil, but the factions goals are simply averse to Novaya Russia, Gregor Ushi would do the same as Zhukov would if he didn't have the main government forces behind him.

From what I've seen and read; any film or story that doesn't revolve around World War II (even then, some of them) pit the Soviet Union or some form of communist dictatorship as the bad guy. It's almost as cliche as a crime story revolving around the Italian Mafia.

However cliche something is the way you present the story is grabs people. In this case, it will be many people who will grab the reigns of a story. Although the Italian Mafia is cliche in crime/noir stories, it becomes interesting depending on the type of story you tell. For example, some people enjoy Coppola's The Godfather series and its perspective on the Mafia, glamorizing the Mafia as "Men of Honor" while GoodFellas paints a completely different picture of people of the same type of organization.

I think the fact that you can become either apart of a nation or faction won't matter when it comes to the central plotline. Everything will have a different ending, different story, different plot from the driving storyline. It all depends on the writer and their direction of the role they have chosen for themselves.

As of lately, my old computer seemed to have broke (due to thermal event) and I had to buy a brand new one. Although it's nice, I lost all of my stories and everything. confused.gif. I dunno, this seems like a fresh start, but it still was a terrible ordeal, due to all my hard work down the drain.

Well, looks like it's back to square one. Literally.

I'm watching a documentary on how the Vietnam War was lost. Interesting stuff. Really gripping. It had an interesting quote that inspired me somewhat:

  • "Our house was on the battlefield, where we thought that day. People ask me if I'm scared? With the ghosts of dead Americans tugging on my feet?"

I might write a short story about an Vietnam Veteran who returns to Vietnam to try and rectify the mistakes he made. Or something like that.

So, since this is the social club open to various issues in the community... I know it's been brought up before, but how many of you guys use (whether it be alcohol, marijuana, heroin, or acid) psychoactive substances when you write?

I don't necesserily go and get high before I write because I have to be f*cked up to write, I write sober plenty. But sometimes getting high puts me in the mood to do it and some pieces end up worked on that way.

Well, I'm stuck on ideas on something to write about. I had an old half-finished novel I did before I was a teenager, but I doubt I'll go back to that. Anyone got any ideas? I might do a quick story about an abandoned hospital or some place with the story developing from the perspective of different characters, but has anyone got any other, non-cliched ideas, or can help me find an idea?

People usually say "write about what you know." What do you know? What's your strengths? Interests? What are you most knowlegable about?

I'm sober whenever I have written anything and published it on this board. Most of my material post-middle school has been published on these boards as well as when I was in Middle School so there was little psychoactive drugs involved with my writing that I have "published".

I dabble in the use of certain recreational "herbs" but only at the discretion of my mind when I am under the influence of alcohol. When I am under both I never find the need to really write anything, I feel that I can't even write even though I get all these crazy, creative thoughts in my head.

Currently, I am planning to do a detective story/stories while I work on "Untitled". Each story will involve a case that spans over a few chapters/episodes. The detective will remain the same in each story. The setting is Los Angeles in the early-1960s. Each case will take place one year after the preceding one, showing the transition of the backdrop going from conservative, picket-fence, plastic people post-World War II/Korean War America into the Vietnam War era, the hippie fashions, clothes and sentiments. You will also see the detective change with the times and political attitudes. So think of this "project" as Mafia, the video game, yet it involves a detective rather than a criminal and his rise through the ranks of his precinct. There will be some recurring villains, antagonists, and protagonists with each case too.

I've found that weed can change the way your imagination works and get you to think 'outside the box'. I'm up for trying acid to see its effects, but not anything harder.

Acid is pretty hard you know, it's not something to be taken lightly. Weed may be a considerable option for someone wanting to experiment, but taking Acid may be a little too far, at least in my opinion it is.

I'm not really all too fussed as long as we don't get pages and pages of experiences, recommendations and hazards of drug use while writing. I appreciate sometimes you may need a kick if you're that way inclined and you partake in the drug in the first place, but I don't want the message being you can only write well under the influence. I'm not saying that's the vibe I'm getting now, not by a long shot, but yeah, keep it minimal pleasings. Hell, it's interesting to read.

The only good thing to come out of writing and narcotics is children's TV and even that has slipped in standards over the last couple of years! tounge.gif

It will be up though. Soon enough..

Actually Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas was written under the heavy influence of drugs and it became a counter-culture phenomenon and a classic movie. Although this is one of the few examples of narcotics ever actually making a large impact on literature as well as a certain "culture" as a whole.

But don't you think that discussing the supposed benefits of drug taking whilst writing is nothing but an attempt to legitimise a filthy and harmful vice?

Any benefit discussed is personal, and while it isn't condoned or promoted by me or the majority of the WD community, anything here has to be taken with a pinch of salt. Just because So Frank takes a few drugs here and there, that's up to him to do.
