Eminence
That's thoroughly disturbing. Thanks for that mental imagery. On a brighter note: Products is two years old today! So this is your second anniversary of unproductivity?

Oxidizer
You even left feedback to it. And if I recall, you only wrote a single piece in '07 and remained silent until August last year. So we're even.
Eminence
That doesn't mean I stopped writing altogether though, does it. You need to carry on. You can't write one thing and then think, "right, the counter restarts now, so I can leave it a few months and then it's only been a little while since I last wrote something". So carry the f*ck on before I beat you up and rob your lunch money!
Oxidizer
Even if I did post something new here all anyone would do is remark how long it's been, ignore the hard work I've put into the storyline and characters and say how well or bad my grammar is, such is the type of feedback 'round these parts. And you leave my monies alone! Rectum, mouth and I worked hard on the streets to earn that.

Lethal Nizzle
I sat an English mock exam paper the other day, and we were set a task to write a short story using given themes/opening lines/titles. My end product was three and a half pages long, and if I'll get it back I'll be sure to type it up on WD. I drew huge inspiration from the BBC1 series Occupation, starring James Nesbitt - the main gist of the plot was three soldiers who had fought in Iraq have come home, but each find their lives making a complete u-turn back the way they came, back to Iraq. In my short, there is a young soldier by the name of Darren, who having come home from his first tour of a Middle East country, is having a hard time adjusting to life with his anti-war sister. It's a one-off, and was solely wrote for the exam task. Keep your eyes peeled for it in the future.
Eminence
FORUM NOTICE Ahem. Craig and I have been talking about the SSOTM competition and it's effectiveness, and we have a proposition for you all. We propose to retire the competition, lock it down, throw it in a treasure chest and let it sink to the bottom of the ocean. You know, that whole metaphor. We think it's maybe lost the focus a bit; people trying to enter to 'win', basing it around the whole voting process, which totally wasn't the point. Furthermore, there's the fact that it lasts all month... time seems to move slow, there seems to be times when we're all just waiting for the voting to begin, or for pieces to start coming in, things like that. Furthermore, it really shouldn't take a whole month to write a piece for the SSOTM. That's just too long. There's too much time spent doing nothing... we should all aim to be more productive than that. So, what do we propose? In my earlier search to steal find writing activities, I came across a forum that holds a 'Flash Fiction Challenge' every week, and I have to say, the thing looked fantastic. So why not try to employ that here? It's almost the same. A theme, idea, situation or whatever makes up the basis - and from there it's all down to the writer. Pieces can be as long or as short as the writer wishes - it's their craft and it's their piece. There'll be a new theme every week, so if you really struggle one week, just give it a shot the next. Pieces can be analysed, critiqued as much as anyone wants, but there'll be no vote where we pit them against each other. There'll be no elitist acknowledgement or congratulations over them, there'll be nothing defining each one as the 'best' of the week or anything like that. The thing will take us back to basics. It'll be all about the writing. And if people take part regularly, we feel they'll really start to feel the improvements and developments in their writing brought on by increased output and productivity. What do you guys say? Are you in? TO SUM UP: Let's replace the SSOTM with a weekly theme-based challenge that doesn't culminate in a vote. It'll just be about writing and sharing ideas. Rhoda
I volunteer to make a new version of the picture in 1000 words competition. I was going to do that last week but decided against it, it didn't receive much of a reaction last time. Maybe I'll re-do it in the future. Ciabatta
I like the idea of a weekly 'challenge' keeps ideas flowing not just for those stories but others that people are working on as well.
Eminence
Well, based on the quick favourable response we've done it: clickity click click here. SSOTM will continue as usual until the month's out. There'll still be the customary vote, for old time's sake.
Rhoda
SSOTM will continue as usual until the month's out. There'll still be the customary vote, for old time's sake. One thing that's rather obvious is that the winner won't be choosing the theme as SSOTM is being dis-continued, but perhaps the winner of this month's round could choose a theme for the new Flash Fiction Challenge? Whatever week is closest to the results being published, the winner could pick a theme for that.
Eminence
Perhaps. I think we could even have an open invitation for people to suggest themes that they want to see and week by week we could get through the good ones.

I think we could even have an open invitation for people to suggest themes that they want to see and week by week we could get through the good ones. Sure we can, but just so the winner of SSOTM doesn't feel like they're being conned out of a legitimate win; obviously people don't enter just to choose a theme at the end of it all but I think it's only fair for the participants. Typhus
I have been inspired. A spark of wisdom from God himself. It came to me at work today, I was thinking and thinking and the idea just popped into my head. Basically, it's a story about the effects of neglectful parenting. But, like Klausland uses an allegorical style to comment on a larger social issue.
ObsydianRaven
Okay, here is a little background story for my upcoming scifi story, There are 5 major powers located on the Orion Arm (the arm of the galaxy arm that our Solar System is situated), United Nation of Sol-Consisting mostly of humans. Omnia sunt Communia
I've always wanted to write a science-fiction story, though I would make sure to stay shy of big, intergalatic wars and galaxy-wide adventures in favour of a more personal approach. I prefer stories about groups of people as opposed to groups of planets. I might write a space western sometime in the future, if I ever get the inspiration. Those of you who have seen Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop, Serenity or Firefly will know the sort of thing I'm going for. Just imagine space being the final frontier. The futuristic equivilant to the Western Colonies, if you will. That's the sort of feel I would want to bring forward in my stories. The lawless. The adventure. Colonization and whatnot. Oxidizer
I thought this would be easy as it's character development and I rock at character development. But apparently I was wrong. The only thing stopping me with my topsecretprojectofbadassery is that I'm having serious problems writing the dialogue for the first chapter, mostly because it's for three people who have never met before this night, so I need to not only build up a little chemistry between them but also have them say things that's in character and sets up their personalities. Sure enough, what I've got so far isn't atrocious by any means, but it is a little... not cheesy, but it feels forced. Honestly, I'm tempted to scrap the first chapter altogether and just plough ahead with the rest of the story, but I kind of need this one as it's the chapter that sets everything in motion. *headdesk* I'm sure I'll work out the kinks eventually; this is more of me unloading my pentup frustration than anything else. Osric
I was thinking of doing a Fallout fanfic, set across the rural countryside of Central Appalachia that I grew up in, starting in the small town of Clintwood, Virginia(My hometown). Also, there will be stuff set in cities right outside Appalachia like Roanoke, Virginia, and Knoxville, Tennessee. The main reason is because due to the extreme remoteness, the Chinese wouldn't have targeted it with nukes and the mountains would block the communities from the fallout winds. Among other places that will be visited are the Roanoke Star(Roanoke, Virginia), the Governor's Mansion(Charleston, West Virginia), as well as Tweetsie Railroad and the Blowing Rock(Boone, North Carolina). It would focus on a young woman living in the ruins of Clintwood, Virginia. Despite the fact that the hills are untouched, the isolation and lack of authority brings her to go on a quest to find a safe haven from the anarchy and lawlessness of the hills. Along the way she encounters the treacherous Enclave, the Brotherhood of Steel, and vicious raider tribes descended from today's street gangs. The woman would eventually have to make her own safe haven and establish a new order. Anyone who's a fan of Fallout would find this interesting. Oxidizer
I come bearing a (rough!) teaser: The flash of white-hot rage surged through him, his eyes darkening at her words. People only had one shot with Remy and this piece of dark gold had just blown hers. In an instant his arm shot out, his hand wrapping itself around her throat like a cobra, his grip tightening to hammer his point at home; his thumb pressed resolutely against her windpipe. "One wrong move and I break your neck," he snarled through flawless and gritted teeth. It needs a fair amount of tweaking, but it's better than nothing.
