hey guys, I've been trying to create a hand model for a project of mine - pretty far in currently (disregard the smoothing problems and the uncompleted part on the left)

could anybody share some criticism?

also.. does anybody know a good character modeling tutorial for 3ds max? i'm trying to learn but so far my attempts have been nothing but failure )

The iPhone is great, but I suggest you make a lowpoly version and release that.

 

The hand looks good btw, but why are you modeling it with a glove?

alot easier for me, also I wanted to base it on some picture I saw.

Anyways, it looks to highpoly for a game. But its really nice.

I love spec maps, but the only problem is now when I play certain games (F.E.A.R 2) I think to myself THATS A SPEC MAP! I'm not sure why It pops in my mind its just THERE!

Anyway thats a nice retexture, Shaved Niko and someone attempt a Helghast soldier from Killzone? colgate.gif I'm too noob-ish to attempt it. confused.gif

You have no idea of how many stuff pop up in my mind when I play games.

Exactly when you begin to model stuff you go play games and say things like

THATS LOWPOLY W000T.

Thats a bump map! biggrin.gif

I hate it when I look at some surface that isn't completely flat in the game and I have to stop and start examining it to determine is it just a normal map, a parallax map or are the details actually modeled there.

coingod, u using the head you made in Sculptris? well if so... good luck UVmaping it, it doesnt even unwrap correctly in uv map and i think it would take you atleast 10 years to figure out the corrent layout.

I did not make MJ in Sculptris. Even If did, its easy to unwrap it in 3D MAX.

 

Do you use UV Mapping for heads? Thats kinda weird. (I used to do it when I was a beginner though)

its easy to unwrap in 3dsmax? please explain urself. i imported a bunch of sculptris models into 3dsmax and the layout was "3d" and in "front" oerspective layout, which would take me hours over hours over hours to figure out how to unwrap correctly. if you know something i dont, PLEASE help.

 

PS: it was GTADedan who modeled MJ in sculptris... i think.

Looks like I do know something you dont.

 

How to use the Unwrap modifier. turn.gif

 

You dont try to fix the Sculptris UV, you make one yourself.

Almost clean UV on GTADedan's MJ Head, and Im still working on it.

 

Took me a while to reduce 1,800,000 polygons to only 5,000. Wich made the topology of the model suck dick (making it difficult to make the UV).

Yeah the sculptris one is just the model. So yeah good bumpmaps would be sweet. Would look awesome in GTAIV, though that's not gonna happen anytime soon I guess
