About

The Untitled George A. Romero or ...of the Dead (working titles; formerly known as George A. Romero's Island of the Dead) is the upcoming horror film by George A. Romero which is currently in production. Although independently produced, the distributor of this film is, as of now, unknown. This will be Romero's sixth 'dead' film.

Plot

On a small island off North America's coast, the dead rise to menace the living. Yet...the islanders can't bring themselves to exterminate their loved ones, despite the growing danger from those the once held dear. A rebel among them hunts down all the zombies he can find, only to be banished from the island for assassinating his neighbors and friends. On the mainland, bent on revenge, he encounters a small band of survivors in search of an oasis on which to build a new life. Barely surviving an attack from a mass of ravenous flesh-eaters. They commandeer a zombie-infested ferry and sail to the island. There, to their horror, they discover that the locals have chained the dead inside their homes, pretending to live 'normal' lives...with bloody consequences. What ensues is a desperate struggle for survival and the answer to a question never posed in Romero's Dead films: Can the living ever live in peace with the dead?

Trailer

Trivia

  • With the release of Island of the Dead, Alan Van Sprang will be the third actor to play a character that appears in more than one of Romero's zombie films. Island of the Dead will feature Sprang as 'Nicotine' Crocket, an abrasive former soldier that made a brief cameo in Romero's Diary of the Dead, billed only as "Colonel." Van Sprang also appeared in Land of the Dead as the unrelated character Brubaker.
  • The second actor to appear in two Romero zombie films as the same character is renowned special effects artist Tom Savini. Savini played the ill-fated biker Blades in Romero's Dawn of the Dead and then made a short cameo as a zombie version of Blades (billed as "Machete Zombie") in Romero's Land of the Dead.
  • The third and often unreferenced actor is Joe Pilato who appeared as the character "Captain" in Dawn of the Dead 1978 a special maritime division of the Pittsburgh police. Pilato appeared as Captain Roads in Day of the Dead 1985.
  • Special effects artist Gregory Nicotero has also appeared as a member of the un-dead in several Romero zombie films but never repeatedly as the same zombie. Shawn Roberts also appeared in both "Diary Of The Dead" and "Land Of The Dead", playing Tony Ravello and Mike respectively.

---

As a big zombie fan you can imagine I'm quite excited by this. While I felt George A. Romero's will never top Dawn of the Dead I have had fun watching him try. Land of the Dead and Diary of the Dead were good films but pail in comparison to his earlier work. I would still like to see this and see what he can make of the "Colonel/'Nicotine' Crocket" character from Diary of the Dead.

It has also been rumoured that Richard Rubinstein (producer of Dawn of the Dead) is planning to re-release Dawn of the Dead in 3-D. There is also talks about a possible sequel (though I doubt it will have any involvement with Romero).

Hmm, I've never seen any of Romero's films in their entirety. I hope to see this one at the movies when it comes out.

After his last two Dead films, I can safely say I'm not too excited for this. That little promo piece does absolutly nothing for me.

I'm more excited for the eventuall movie adaptaion of Max Brooks' book, World War Z.

Dawn of the Dead is the best one and I doubt it'll be topped, especially in this day and age in which films are often hindered by poor use of CGI. Needless to say it'll be interesting to see how this new entry turns out.

And holy sh*t! I just now realized why the hearse in GTA VC is named Romero. Can't believe that never "dawned" on me before now. tounge.gif

Ever since he wrote The Zombie Survival Guide people have been hailing him as "King of the Zombies" or something. While I may have loved Dead Set - I'm not that big a fan of his work - his stories try and touch on the same social commentary as Romero's but just pail in comparison.

I cannot believe I only just noticed that. Nice one.

Ah yes. I'd love to see the Battle of Yonkers considering I take the Sprain Parkway every day to work.

Max Brooks had nothing to do with Dead Set. That was written by Charlie Brooker. bored.gif

I enjoyed Land for what it was, but Diary of the Dead was one of the biggest pieces of crap I've ever seen. Like Groovy I'm finding it hard to get excited for this, but am eagerly anticipating World War Z. It's a brilliant book.

This sounds interesting, but after Land of the Dead I wouldn't put too much faith in it. I haven't seen Diary of the Dead, but I hear it's quite good.

Oh well, eye's peeled for this one.

I'm not sure.

This seems to just too humane and caring for what I'm used to, especially that from Romero. I was very let-down by Land Of The Dead which seemed to show zombies as compassionate creatures who felt pain for their own, and expressed disappointment and confusion when power tools failed on them. They just aren't zombies to me, which is ironic considering this film comes from the King Of Zombies. Sounds unique, but not my cup of tea. Count me out.

Now I'm sure when Land of The Dead was released, George A Romero was planning on releasing one "...of the dead" each decade but then he goes on to do Diary of the Dead and this... confused.gif He is kind of milking his own franchise to death now and it's a shame since the first three are such classic films.

I'll keep my eye on this, I didn't particularly like Land of the Dead but I kinda didn't mind Diary of the Dead except for that stereotypical English guy with his bow and arrow and drinking scotch confused.gif I just hope that this next film takes place sometime around the period that Day of the Dead ends rather than going over the beginning of the zombie outbreak like he's done 3 times already. It would be good to see the zombies getting smarter a la Bub or that black zombie from Land of the Dead. Would also be nice to see some old school special effects but I'm not holding my breath for that one.

Eh best serious Zombie film of late didn't even come from Romero it came from Synder. I don't think there's been any other decent one's latley apart from Shaun of the Dead which is really a comedy.

I always get those two mixed up. I blame the fact that they both have 'Brook-' in their name.

Yeah, I just saw Diary. What a disappointment. It had serious potential. I hate teens/college age people for this genre. They just give me the vibe of a slasher movie, which is a completely different vibe than I want in a Romero film.

The original Night, Dawn, and Land are the best. Hands down.

It would most likely be the greatest scene of zombie carnage ever set to film. I mean, god damn, a sea of zombies streatching for miles with numbers in the millions, against about half of the US military.

I doubt it'll be great but I'll probably rent it when it comes to DVD (if it isnt released straight to DVD...) I thought Land... was okay never even saw Diary don't think I really want to but its all good cause I got the classics (and Tom Savini's remake of Night which I think is pretty good.)
