New hidden commands from GTA IV

The distant car imposters in GTA IV are not 2d sprites there 3d.

And disabling them will not put real 3d cars in their place.

Unless you go here and set up your rig right here in my place, there is no way there is a guarantee a commandline file that works fine for me works fine for you.

Thanks for sharing, I never could be bothered to run this game with -help to show all the commands.

Btw, what are 'imposters in vehicles'? tounge.gif

I should make some program with a GUI that lets you select options and slide sliderbars to create a custom commandline.txt soon, I think it would help alot of people. sleepy.gif

Again, have you read this post I've linked? http://www.radioactive-software.com/forum/...3de2f1ef24ae7be

Imposter Rendering is a common programming technique which replaces 3D objects far away in the distance with flat 2D sprites in order to save resources and to increase performance. Because the objects are so far away and so small you won't notice that they are in fact just 2D sprites.

When you disable this feature I think the performance will break down.

I've read your link, i understand it and i wish R* have used this mathod to improve performance, unfortunately it is not so.

This command only remove the fake car models that were fake from the start, when i fly above the city i get 60-70fps with or without the command since it's really just a minor cosmetic change.

so when u activate or deactivate i bet they become 3d.. but that wouldnt look so "much" better

wrong, it simply remove those models from the game and clear the roads from fake traffic.

This is because it disables the animated ones on the LOD - the headlights and taillights and black silhouettes of cars, not any of the actual cars, but actually just the cars you see driving far, far away. There is a point where you can't see cars anymore, then further away you can see cars again, THOSE are the impostors in GTA IV wink.gif

Wow mate, not to offend you but, you realized that after six months? I know I'm not contributing in any way in the post, but resurrecting a post six months old just to state that...

Instead of flaming at eachoter, shall we continue the search for new undiscovered mysteries, like hidden commands in the new patch? smile.gif

unmanaged thing? Trying now. Maybe i'll be able to get 120FPS at max settings on an old 2004 PC.

3 benchmarks with unmanaged: ~33 FPS

3 benchmarks with managed: ~35 FPS

It is for stereoscopic rendering, or 3D glasses. I don't know if it works, but if it does, you need a card+monitor that both support it.

Spider-Vice

It disables these low polygon cars that you see at the distance when in a high building. I don't know how that will increase performance or do anything as these cars have like... 10 polygons?

D[][]\/[][]D,Mar 25 2010, 23:31] Do I just enter these commands on a Notepad and save it as command.txt?

YES EXACTLY..... Except file should be named commandline.txt

Actually stuff it... here is what i have been using for 3 years now

-novblank

-notimefix

-forcer2vb

-noprecache

-noswapdelay

-norestrictions

-nomemrestrict

-availablevidmem 2.0

-percentvidmem 100

-framelimit 1

-disableimposters

-waterquality 5

-waterreflectionquality 5

-shadowquality 5

-shadowresolution 4096

-reflectionquality 5

-reflectionresolution 4096

-forcehighqualitymirrors

-fullspecaudio

-dx10

/high

NOTE - YOU should use

-shadowresolution 2048

-reflectionresolution 2048

i am just testing difference with higher res at moment! smile.gif

EDIT - Also -availablevidmem is NOT percentage... it is a multiple of your available vidmem.... ie. 2.0 is 2x's your vidcards AVAILABLE (USABLE) memory (remember most win setups will keep approx 32mb for the win shell)

Example - on a 512mb card you would usually have about 486mb usable.... times that by 2 and just under 1gb..... easy icon14.gif
