oklp
i didnt want to start a new topic so ill post here, i just bought a GTX260 216 cores, would a 450w psu be ok?
anus
It's not recommended, but you can try. Make sure the PSU has enough amps on the 12V rail for the card though. Amps are more important than the wattage.
poopskin
His system is prebuilt. It's probably some generic 750W PSU and is struggling with the PC. @Oab, If you can get a spare PSU, definitely try it out. It's an easy way to see if it's the PSU causing the problems. Actually, they had to put it in to replace the original PSU when it wouldn't start due to the Graphics card.
OabAli
Hey everybody! Guess what? My PC stopped freezing! Turns out, like some of you said, it was a software conflict. I'm not sure which software was the cause of it, because I aimlessly deleted a whole bunch of software and a couple of startup processes in safe mode, to get where I am now. Some software I remember deleting: Gigabyte Energy Saver (mobo utility, most likely the cause IMO), Need for Speed III (old game), FRAPS, Avira AntiVir: Free Edition (switching to AVG, until McAfee), Microsoft IntelliType Pro (keyboard driver), others I can't recall Some startup processes: Steam, FRAPS, iTunesHelper, others And don't worry, I'll still get that PSU, but since it isn't so urgent, and I'm busy with some projects, it'll have to wait for another time (maybe a month or two). Thanks everybody for all your support this past week!!!
Slamman
Whoever told you that is very incorrect. Any good 500 watt PSU could easily power that. But that doesn't necessarily mean your current PSU is running as it should. You may want to try out another PSU. First of all you could try describing to us what kind of crashes you are experiencing. 700 is typical overkill, but if you have two or more graphic cards, then I would say, better suited. It's one thing to keep in mind, power spec doesn't JUST become an issue without any cause prior
Democrab
is 550watts good enough for 4gb RAM, a 750gb hd, a quad core duo and a GeForce GTX 260? my comp crashes a lot and everyone i've asked says it's the PSU. i'm supposed to be getting 750watts out of it but i'm only getting 550. That's what i get for not buying from one of the refutable brands... If its not a good/known brand, I'll happily bet that it can't even do 300watts cleanly, I suggest a new PSU on that, but a 550watt is enough, I have 8Gb RAM, 4 Hard Drives (1.5Tb total space), a AMD triple core OC'd heavily (3.9Ghz) and a 9600GT OCed running on a Corsair 550w, runs perfect.
