Tmangus
Hey all Since gta iv's been released, Ive seen and heard a lot of complaints and made some of my own too. But for the past few months Ive had no problems with the game whatsoever So I wanted to share my experiences and knowledge to help others out. It seems we all still stiving to get the game to run right, when we ought to realy be enjoying it. Firstly, I have a core two extreme x6800 cpu @ 2.93 ghz, two cores and sli 260GTX (XFX). I have 4gb of corsair ddr2 @ 800mhz on an nforce 4, vista 64bit and an audigy 4 soundblaster. I play at 1920 1200screen res with vysnc on @ 60hz. My graphics settings are set to high/highest/very highetc (the highest they go) and I balance performance by reducing draw and detail distances and shadow density reduced to 3. I aslo keep my traffic at 35% (a quad core makes a big difference here)I recommend you visit the Nvidia SLI forums where we have been working to run this game right (and some have acheived this). i average 40fps and the game runs really well. I recommend SLI is disabled for Nvidia gpu's. I am not sure about crossfire but ATI users may want to try disabling it for smoother performance. With SLI off I achieve a nice smooth consistant frame rate and my ingame videos play really smoothly without any hitches or stutters. My lowest frames are in day/night transittions and when weather is changing. This happens for a very brief few moments and then returns from 30 to 40+fps. My cards are 876mb VRAM and I fill it to about 840mb, leaving sufficient room for the card to perform optimally. If you choke the VRAM by adjusting settings so that the memory useage is over and above your available min, you MAY and most likely will run into more inconsistant frame rates, slow downs and/or loss of performance the longer you play. So, be pratical and balance your settings. There really is no need to have all the sliders on the right, you will choke your systems or put them under extreme load for little gain. So its not worth it, and for others it will literally kill your framerate and/or the consistancy of your frame rate. My recommendation, dont upgrade nvidia drivers if you have the game running right. I am on 182.05 and the game is absolutely fine. My user name on Nvidia SLI forums is Taz rose in case you want to see some of my own posts there regards performance. Thank you rockstar for the PC version. It is by far the superior version of them all (I own a ps3 and 360, iv played it on all formats...360 version beats ps3 version handsdown for me, but others may disagree, each to their own) Edited May 2, 2009 by Tmangus
