Isin't there a grumpy topic for rants?

Comedy is nothing more than tragedy deferred.

Agreed, that back and forth is a bit off the main topic, yet you'd jump all over me about it, so keep that in mind! eDad!

Anywho, back to the religion and off topic statements prior, I missed my rebuttal.

God, as you stated, being "omnipotent', why does he let the Devil manipulate and deceive his creations? It's part of his plan as the bible shows, sending Jesus to preach his gospel. To ultimately die for our sins on Earth. God's stepping in to just cast the Devil out of everyone's life is not as easy as one makes it. I believe the powers there are beyond anything we can imagine, that's why. But again, no mortal knows, this is just part of acceptance of Faith in a Holy Father. That you accept him and try and live a good life in his name, you're going to Heaven. I believe people can also do so by making a good impression on others, infuence AND actions both.

I try and be friendly with anyone, but sometimes you guys think I'm just out to provoke in some twisted way, that's just not so. I do have a unique humor and personality and sometimes just being open and honest rubs people the wrong way. That's often struck me as strange.

One of my favorite lines from SCTV is where John Candy and Joe Flaherty are two country bumpkins talking the Hollywood star circuit. Their main quote is "May the Good Lord take a likin to ya, and blow ya up REAL GOOD!!"

It's so funny, even today. I was watching more SCTV on YouTube, like John Candy in The Fishin Musician! Check all that out and laugh for hours!

Slamman has a good point in taking a look at John Candy as the Fishin Musician. Comedy gold right there. That also brings up his appearance on Saturday Night Live back in 1981 I believe. Where he was fantastic alongside Juan Gavino as the drunk salesman. It's worth taking a look on Youtube for reference as you'll cry bucketloads!!!

Also on the subject of religion, we can't forgot the old line of "Love thy neighbour". It's a line that is brought up time and time again but it's so relevant in everyday life no matter who you are. In fact just the other day my neighbour was complaining about my dog getting all over her lawn and sometimes urinating on it. She actually sprayed the dog with a hose. I was initially angry about her compaining AND the hose but I remembered the Love They Neighbour line which I just happen to have a sticker of on my wall biggrin.gif Anyway I offered to mow the neighbor's lawn for her as a way of making it up to her which she accepted. We are now on pretty good terms and she even let me take a look at her son's PC setup as he has been having some problems with it. Turns out he's fried the motherboard cry.gif So I offered to let him have my Packard Bell Intel Pentium 3 PC which I built from scratch a few years ago and have in my conversatory (which also has some more sayings like "Love Thy neighbor" on the wall!) And now thanks to the PC I gave them the son can do his homework on Word 95 which I let them have for free wink.gif

Anyway, back to my initial point. Religion has such a strong presence in quotes today that it's impossible to avoid them all day!

This quote is from the book "The Journal of Scott Pendleton Collins" by Walter Dean Myers. It is basically the journal of a WWII soldier, yet I don't know whether or not this soldier was real and whether the actions depicted in the book actually happened. Well I mean what happened to Scott and his friends, not D-Day and other battles since those happened. Anyways:

"First, people tolerate evil because they see some benefit to themselves. Then, they feed it in hope that it will not turn against them. Then, they respect it because they fear it. Finally, someone has to step up and Stomp It Out!!!!"-Catholic Chaplain, June 20th, 1944.

Quick note- One sentence I messed up when I wrote it down from the book so I had to cut out one sentence from the original quote.

All men…are NOT created equal! Some are born smarter, or more beautiful, or with parents of greater status. Some, by contrast, are born weak of body or mind, or with few, if any, talents. All men are different! Yes, the very existence of man is discriminatory! That's why there is war, violence and unrest. Inequality is not evil. Equality is! What became of the EU, who claimed that all are equal? It is in constant conflict because its tenets go against human nature! The Middle Eastern Federation, which harbors similar sentiments, is constantly mired with sloths! But our Britannia is not like them! We put an end to wars and evolve with every conquest! Britannia alone looks forward and moves forward to a better future! The death of my son Clovis is yet more proof that our empire is evolving. Fight! For the future rests in the hands of its ruler! ALL HAIL BRITANNIA!!!!!

Seriously Slamman, I don't know how you manage to steer the conversation from quotes from films and music, all the way over to a Frenchman who invented condoms? I mean, WTF! You must have some special powers of idiocy or something, and I admire it.

"I seem to remember in 1980 John Lennon was shot. Yoko was a bitchy Japanese woman, and the Japanese have small dogs, which I don't like because one bit my balls in 4th grade, which was a bad grade because I failed the tests for Science, because I didn't get the question on birds."

"Nothing ends, Adrian. Nothing ever ends."

"...where there was nature and earth, life and water, I saw a desert landscape that was unending, resembling some sort of crater, so devoid of reason and light and spirit that the mind could not grasp it on any sort of conscious level and if you came close the mind would reel backward, unable to take it in. It was a vision so clear and real and vital to me that in its purity it was almost abstract. This was what I could understand, this was how I lived my life, what I constructed my movement around, how I dealt with the tangible. This was the geography around which my reality revolved: it did not occur to me, ever, that people were good or a man was capable of change or that the world could be a better place through taking one's pleasure in a feeling or a look or a gesture, of receiving another person's love or kindness. Nothing was affirmative, the term "generosity of spirit" applied to nothing, was a cliché, was some kind of bad joke. Sex is mathematics. Individuality is no longer an issue. What does intelligence signify? Define reason. Desire-meaningless. Intellect is not a cure. Justice is dead. Fear, recrimination, innocence, sympathy, guilt, waste, failure, grief, were things, emotions, that no one really felt anymore. Reflection is useless, the world is senseless. Evil as its only permanence. God is not alive. Love cannot be trusted. Surface, surface, surface was all that anyone found meaning in...this was civilization as I saw it, colossal and jagged..."

Almost three pages back, time to add some.....

Reading some online paper interview, prior to a show there, Eagles' Don Henley had this to say about the idea Behind LONG ROAD OUT OF EDEN.

Yes, I am a bit miffed by his comment on video games. I love video games, but he didn't grow up playing them, though I share ideas in that nature and the great landscape must be preserved.

Mr. Henley on "Eden";

What is Eden to you?

Eden ... for me would be a place where there is no news or entertainment media -- no more bad news, no more windbag political pundits, no self-righteous, know-it-all sportscasters, no charlatan televangelists, no celebrity news, no movie or music critics and no interviews. It would also be great if there were no Facebook, no MySpace and no Twitter. And a world with no video games would be brilliant. ... But for better or worse, this is what has become of our culture -- a gazillion ways to be distracted, to waste time, to be spoon-fed a constant diet of the trivial and the tragic. But there's nowhere left to run. This is the world that men like Rupert Murdoch have made, and we all have to live in it. Fortunately, they haven't done away with books or radio.

Has the West been lost?

Much of the West has been lost in a maze of malls, billboards and fast food restaurants -- and no GPS gizmo is going to enable us to find it again. Most of our national parks are endangered by overuse, lack of upkeep, encroaching development and pollution. Big Oil, Big Mining and Big Timber remain in the driver's seat, along with real estate and development interests. Ultimately, it's up to the citizenry: Do we have the collective will to elect people who care about our natural heritage or do we want to continue to elect people who don't? Will we continue to allow politics to trump science in our state and federal legislatures? ... Until we make the transition to alternative sources of energy and get off this fossil fuel bender that we've been on for over 60 years, not much is going to change. The natural environment will continue to deteriorate and state legislatures will, for the most part, continue to bow to corporate interests. That's certainly the case in Texas, where I live.
