irrffan
I'm playing GTA IV on my PC. I'm facing the problem while driving the car. The camera is keeping changing in every road turn so I have to use mouse to keep the car straight. I just want my car to be view always from behind as it vied in GTA 3 and GTA SA, I don't want to keep changing my car's view often. Due to this reason I didn't even finish my first mission Please guide me in this regard.
IJM
Regrettably, there is no fix for this. No options or anything. There have been numerous threads about the same thing. I too wanted to steer with the mouse and have the camera fixed. But you just can't have it in GTA:IV. What I did was to reconfigure the controls slightly so that I use the keyboard with my left hand and the mouse with my right. I drive entirely with my left hand and look around with the mouse. Eventually, you get used to it and it becomes second nature. In fact it turns into an advantage with fast driving, because being able to use the mouse to manually look around, you can check side roads for emerging vehicles and all sorts of other hazards. Furthermore, it makes shooting from the driver's seat quite easy. Just hold the right mouse button, aim where you want using mouse look, and fire with the left mouse button. It's actually much easier than the way drive bys worked in previous GTA games. Edited April 29, 2009 by IJM

But it would be nice for people with just one arm to have a non slow camera. I have one arm, but - maybe I am just lazy and should learn how to mod this game (fantastic game - hardware permitting). Pretty similar like in SA I think. Lags little. You are supposed to use that mouse. For viewing, and especially for aiming. You need just practice. notmeitsyou
You can drive with 1st person perspective (inside car). The camera will always look forward.
Arkangel
you don't need to mouse to make it straight again, jsut press caps lock for a faction of a second whenever you want to center the camera

TF2Fan
Although I am used to the camera and driving with keyboard and mouse, I really want to drive with JUST the keyboard, like in the previous GTA games. The most annoying thing is I cant use handbrake! I drive with the left arm using the arrow keys, and my right arm is on the mouse! So even if I set a key for handbrake next to the arrow keys, I can never do a nice turn since my fingers are not on the arrow keys! I REALLY WANT TO DRIVE USING JUST THE KEYBOARD! Arrow keys for driving, Space for handbrake!
syrdax
Err, you can use W-A-S-D and hand-brake with Space key... I wonder how people play games like COD4 and all that kind, is basically the same, but instead of just looking at a gun, you can actually see the car/Niko Is not like a new system that requires 10 fingers on keyboard to play the game... now, flying the helicopter, now that was a pain before patches
TF2Fan
I dont like using WASD. I never used WASD on any games. Anyway, using the WASD keys and space bar as handbrake you still cant control the car perfectly, like you would with using arrow keys and handbrake on another hand. jimmyjames
I've not been playing this game for long and am not too keen on the way the car has to be controlled. Being a leftie, I use the arrow keys with downarrow being the brake. But this makes for crap cornering and will no doubt jepordise any racing missions coming up. I don't use handbrake, there's nowhere for it as I'm using my left hand on the mouse. What about if I use one of the mouse buttons to brake, will they not be needed later on for shooting? Hanneswasco
I'm driving with ZQSD (which is WASD for QWERTY keyboards), and if I turn with my vehicle, I just press C (so the button you use to look behind) for a second. Then the camera will go just before my vehicle, and when I release the button, the camera is right after my vehicle, and everything is fine again. If you use the mouse buttons for brake, you indeed will have problems with drive-by's.
jimmyw404
Hey bud, I have the same issue as you and just fixed it. I'm presuming you have version 1.0.3.0 or whatever(the latest one) Step 1: Go here and read this thread: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=398667&st=0 Step 2: Google: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=of...1.2&btnG=Search and go to http://zombo.com/index.php?id=208&r=details and get version 1.2 of the mod. Step 3: Go here: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=380830 and get the .asi loader from Alex. Put that .dll in your GTA installation directory along with the .asi and .ini file from step 2. Step 4: Launch GTA, get in a car, go to your desired camera view and press 'm'. Taadaa!
jimmyjames
What about my other problem using custom mapped keyboard, any suggestions? I have to set it up everytime I start the game. It doesn't appear to save. I even had to turn off auto save because after the game saved, all the keys went back to defaut, how naff is that. Using original disc patched to latest 1030. Graven
Delete settings.cfg (User/AppData/Local/Rockstar Games/GTA IV/Settings) once. Re-map, save. You can´t map all functions afaik.
Chris1508
Left hand on W, A, S and D Right hand on mouse.... whats so hard about that? don't you need to run around using those controls, why does everyone moan about the driving the camera doesn't stick behind you while running does it? Exactly. In fact... I don't like it auto-centring at all! I much prefer having total control of the camera with the mouse.

I have a pretty standard mouse, a 5 button mouse. Thats not a bad idea tho, I might give this a go and let you guys know how it is! I know some of you prefer total control over the camera, but tbfh, I dont see why you lot are complaining. Even if the camera centered automatically, you would STILL have total control over the camera. The problem is annoying for players who WANT auto centering but cant have it due to R* f*ckup. Then the camera will go just before my vehicle, and when I release the button, the camera is right after my vehicle, and everything is fine again. I do the same. If you tap C very fast/lightly, you wont even notice the "look behind", it works as a "recenter camera" button... however reading these posts I think I will practice WASD + mouse for driving... tapping C or every corner is annoying
