MS points they are 800 for ten bucks.

This sound more like the MS I know and despise.

Why?It's just like money.Screw that,it's online money.

If they make an expansion game, and you can buy it in stores, that is ok.

But if Microsoft offers it as a DLC,that you can download for MS points(that you bought for money)that is bad?

Let's take Fallout 3's "The Pitt"

It costs 800MS Points, that means the DLC costs 10 bucks.Wouldn't the retail cost more because of the s*** you get with it?

So you despise Microsoft for having an online service(like Steam) from where you can download content for your games?

Would "The Pitt" cost more or less on Steam?

I've voted for GFWL. It's useful for inviting friends and using Xbox360 controller.

But, GFWL can't block illegal users that is very f*cking aspect.

Many people voted for Steam. It cans completely block illegal user until someone release non-steam version.

(Indeed, playing multiplay is restricted.)

and It has feature that invite someone who added friends list.

I want to vote for Steam these aspect.

1) their online service is pure and utter garbage and IMO can hardly fit in the same sentence with Steam.

2) the reason I despise MS is because of their "we have everything covered" type of conducting business. They have their grubby little tentacles involved with everything that's a bit hard for them to even scratch one of their fat arses without entering into a conflict of interests. This MS points idea is only a first step toward an MS currency tounge2.gif

Also, my previous point was reflecting the disbelief I found myself entangled in when someone mentioned MS was giving something for free (i.e. those points you got gaming could be exchanged for effective money) instead charging for it.

For instance, the Left4Dead DLC is free.

Which proper PC title has achievements?

Portal, Team Fortress 2, Audiosurf, HL2 Episode 2, UT3 Black (Steam), NFS Carbon, MLB 2K9 (own).

You're a PC gamer, what the f*ck do you need achievements for?

I don't need it. I want to say that GfWL must be necessary for those who wants achievements but not for the MP.

Now or Never

Its clear that almost all players don't like GFWL, Steam is the most preferred thing for now, its not that great but thats better than anything we have for now.

There are steam achievements too,not only GFWL achievements. They're basically the same.

Nelson’s reset some Gears 2 cheaters’ Gamerscores tonight, probably while punching the air and high-fiving the rest of the Live team.

“As you know, we are committed to keeping Xbox Live a safe and fair place to play for the more than 17 million active members,” said the exec.

“As part of our regular safety monitoring we have pinpointed a group of players who have unlocked specific Gears of War 2 Achievements through an unauthorized hack. Deliberate cheats like these are in direct violation of the Xbox Live Terms of Use and will not be tolerated.

“As I post this, we’ve begun taking steps to reset the Gamerscores of the offending players.”

Source

I'm sure they won't reset GTA IV cheaters' gamescores. All what they think about - Sh*tBox*360 and its crappy exclusives.

As far as I know, GFWL is perfect for NOT illegal activities. You wont see any pirate on multiplayer unless he has a LIVE key.

But I hate GFWL, the servers etc.. Let people control there own servers! Kick people out, admins, mods I dont know, some dude that control his own server like in MTA. And if you can save your stats etc... That would be awesome!

I don't have too much time to play online, so I could care less about those "services". I don't understand why you have to have GFWL on to play your last saved game. I would like an option to shut down these things if I'm going to play off line. If it servers for legal copy check control, ok, let's have it, but just when you play for the first time. I don't understand why I have to have 2 other programs running (GFWL and RSC) in order to play the game, they only should be needed to play online.

I only played with GFWL and Steam and I don't like them, I went to a store to buy a game, not other software.

Exactly. I hate having things forced on me that I have no use for after I've paid so much for the game. Not only do I have no use for them, they actually cause me problems. (Longer load times, difficulty transferring saved games, the stuttering that was caused by the updated GFWL etc etc.)

Pisses me off.

I voted dedicated servers originally which would still be good, but if gfwl had great anti cheat support I would go with gfwl it is easy to use and could be good if only they put great anti cheat support for games played on it where if some idiot messes with the game they automaticllay get kicked and have to wait 30min before being allowed back in.

The prevailing idea here seems to be that a proper server/client multiplayer system in which users can both create and join servers manually is somehow incompatible with Steam. This is simply not true. The majority of the games I'm familiar with that use Steam use the normal client/server system, and not just Valve/Source engine games. Whether or not the game uses a digital content delivery system like Steam or not hasn't got a whole lot of bearing on how the multiplayer works, it's not the limiting factor. Rockstar just chose to make it work the way it does.

So, if Rockstar used Steam, the game would have achievements and all of the other advantages of such a system, and there would be nothing stopping Rockstar from implementing a proper server/client system for multiplayer. Sounds like the best of both worlds to me.

Personally I voted for seperate servers, what is the point of being a host if 6 cheaters come into your server and kick YOU out?

Atleast with seperate servers they could create their own little "mod" servers and we could avoid them, anyone comes into your server and cheats, boom kick them out without that stupid vote system, especially when they use that name hiding "mod", atleast with your own server they can't join with different files as you, the host, aslong as those certain files are setup to be matched against people who join. Shifty41s_beerhatsmilie2.gif

As for steam... no thankyou, I can't stand those constant updates, especially when it has nothing to do with the actual game you are trying to play. barf8bd.gif

I would say steam. I've used steam since the half life team fortress days, and they have never let me down. I don't see the point in Games for windows live. It feels like i am running a massive program in the background while playing, it's horrible. It's so.... xbox too. Meaning the colors and "gamerscore and achievements" stuff... no thanks. I don't need achievements to keep me playing a game.

Well good for ya!My DoWII automatically started to update(through Steam of course)and i didn't want to wait until it finishes, so i closed Steam.Kay' it closed alright. But when i tried to start the program again, it said Steam was already running.(Whhaaaaaaaaat?)But i closed it hours ago!I had to restart my system, and whenever i pause an update,or just try to quit while an update(patch)is downloading,it does this.Well whooopdie-f***ing doo!

Uhh...Steam slows games down too you know....also,when it's running in the background(doing nothing)my connection sucks.I close it,and my connection reaches it's full potential again.Yes, GFWL is running too, but Steam is the same.

"Meaning the colors and "gamerscore and achievements" stuff... no thanks. I don't need achievements to keep me playing a game."

You don't need to collect achievements. You pretend like they are forced on you.Is Bill Gates standing next to you with a pistol saying:"Get that achievement or i'll kill you!"?

And last,but not least..... http://steamachievements.net/ http://community.dawnofwar2.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=20465

Crap=Steam=GFWL

Don't act like Valve's sh*t doesn't stink.Because your face is right in it.

Dude calm down... lol. I gave my opinion on something. I prefer steam, because it's not resource heavy, and if it is for you then maybe you aren't doing something right.

If you get that "Steam is already running" message simply hit ctrl alt delete and end the process. I have only got that message twice in so many years of using it...

I know steam is a program running in the background, but the keyword i used was "Massive" program. Windows IN MY OPINION!! feels like it. and the achievments make me think that microsoft doesn't realize PC gamers do not need achievments to play a game for years, we play a game for years, because it is WORTH playing a game for years.

Oh and maybe you have a bad connection, but the updates for games literally take seconds to install even when i am playing and my ping or frames don't budge.

Relax,i'm calm.

It was my first thing to hit Ctrl+alt+del after i got that message. There was no application running.I couldn't close anything. But it kept saying Steam was already running.I always need to restart my system in order to open it up again.

Microsoft? There are twelve LIVE games out currently.Only those games have achievements.Compared to the 31 Steam games which have the achievements feature, that doesn't sound so bad.So, Valve offers more than twice as many achievements than GFWL games and Microsoft doesn't get that we don't need achievements?I'm not saying that they do in fact get what you are saying, but Valve doesn't seem to understand it either. The only thing i see here is that you let this one slide because you favor Valve.(that's why i responded so harsh, you totally ignored that Valve has achievements, but started to bash Microsoft for providing that feature.I'm not a fan of Mic myself but it wasn't really a fair comparison.)

Well, the last Dawn of War II update came down pretty fast.I just didn't wanted to wait because i didn't wanted to play.(and i didn't care)That is when the problem started. But to be fair,i only have it when an update is downloading. And excuse me that a 500Mb heavy update doesn't come down for me in seconds.

I suppose i am a little bias towards steam, i have used them for years and then the evil microsoft comes in and tries to call itself the innovative gaming program. lol, but i get what you're saying. However when i originally voted the option for third party specific servers wasn't on there so i would now have to go for that lol. dozingoff.gif
