Even though I selected GameSpy (I've had good experience with it) I do prefer GFWL over all of them as I have no problems with GFWL and I want to have achievements so if I buy a 360 I can use the points for downloading stuff. Plus I can talk to people on the 360. So keep with GFWL unless Microsoft really start to be retarded and stuff it all up.

Huh? You cant buy anything with gamerscore achievments, its simply a show off of how many achievemnets and games you have completed.

You buy new things with microsoft points, which cost lots of money.

As far as voting goes, steam all the way. Anyone who has Team Fortress 2 or Half Life 2 know how good the system is. And i bought GTA IV off steam, its an amazing service.

The only downside is that to reinstall a game you must first delete it, then completely re download it confused.gif But the download speeds are ludicrously fast!

You could always back up the game files onto a disc. smile.gif

As far as I am aware there is no technical reason why GTA could not be sold and shipped as a retail DVD product and still use steam's on line multiplayer service. I think a recent Warhammer game worked like that, you could buy the game from a retail shop on DVD and then registered it and used steam's on line mp services.

Oh and MLVD steam also has achievements as well so you could still have them in the game.

Yep,Dawn of War II uses Steam.(But i don't know why)Yes,i know, the game uses it because of the authentication process. But couldn't that be done through GFWL?Is one not enough?I think Steam is just as much a bloatware as GFWL.At least by LIVE there are only two things popping up at once.Steam just throws the whole crap in my face,it almost blocks the entire screen, for God's sake. And i don't like this whole crap.I like gamercards, that way people can track which game i am playing, and what's my name so if they want to,they can add me to their friends and stuff, and we play co-op or MP.There should be only one major online system, not this crap that one game uses Steam, one game uses GFWL,one uses both....i mean WTF....

I'd really like to see Rockstar making their own multiplayer system. I hate GFWL, Steam, GameSpy and any other incarnation of that kind of crap. They have their own processes, as if they are oh so special, awesome and worthy of that. The only thing they do, is take up valuable CPU time and memory. A completely in-built system would be perfect.

And I also think, that Rockstar should abandon RGSC. It's just unnecessary.

Now or Never

Steam would be okay, but no third party service is always the best option. GTA4-specific, por favor.

That would suit me.

I think the next GTA, if it were to come to PC, should have its own MP system. There are less hassles for users, there is a sense of more flexibility when using a self-made MP system. I love how COD4 MP for PC is implemented, and I wish to see the similar elements from it in the next GTA MP.

Steam is also an ideal option, with its plethora of benefits and provisions (e.g. VAC, achievements, wide community, etc.), but there are also some annoyances, like mandatory auto-updates and lack of a redistributable updates for some of their games, which may put a hampering on my download cap.

But if R* was stuck with choosing a 3rd party MP service, Steam is the most preferrable choice. I play the Orange Box games with it, and I am very satisfied.

GTA specific

Like the good old days of the original Half-Life when you could run a dedicated server in a dos box on a low spec rig and set your config file with whatever rules you wanted.

If people want the Steam service so bad they would buy the game through steam... surely?

I voted GTA Specifc servers, I don't want such an important part of the game to be reliant on other companies, because then you get situations like this where the GFWL team obviously can't thoroughly test new updates on every game.

Also means Rockstar wouldn't have to go through Microsoft or Steam to release new patches.

To tell the truth I dont care what, who,or how they use I just want a good solid sp game, I could care less about playing online with people who dont know how to play a good game, somepeople say you should be able to use cheats in freemode hey i have played freemode a few times and have had a few good gun battles which this game is based on. As far as things like the person changing thing ,super weapons spawning cars that sh*t is fine but when you start using things like godmode ,those dumb ass things like fifty cars stuck together well thats kiddie stuff ,whats so bad about me hunting you or you hunting me trying to get head shots I dont care if you kill me,whats the fun of ten or so people shooting each other when no one dies?

voted for GTA specific. cause from my point of view it seems like a certain place for each game with a forum or some sort of commenting section would help to make better games. see what people find missing and add it back in as long as it is in GTA style. it would be cool and make more fun games. the best one so far would be GTA SA, because of the lot of different envinorments rather than only dirty city streets and very little free space.

I think people... oops. this is about the service not requests xD sorry lol

i would love for them to use steam, it just works and doesn't make the games that use it run like sh*t; and vac just kicks ass.

I would like them to use LIVE for next GTA, mainly because LIVE boxarts are much better, LIVE client is much more easy to start compare to Steam.

I voted for ' GTA Specifc servers '.

Games for Windows Live sucks.

The first ever GTA game that I had played was GTA III, since then I have been a great fan of R* and the GTA series. Ever since I read R*'s announcement that the great GTA IV was finally scheduled to release on the PC, I started putting some cash aside so I could buy a new PC that would obviously be able to handle the game, that day once came but I was let down with many features being missing since previous GTA titles, I was let down also when I then found out that I couldn't play multi-player, it seems like Games for Windows Live doesn't support my country (Malta) therefore I couldn't play multi-player. I don't care if Microsoft isn't going to like the idea of a third-party multi-player modification for GTA IV on the PC, if this shall one day be created, I'll be totally behind the developers responsible for it!

I voted game specific servers. My reasoning isn't completely reasonable here. On one hand, the fact that I have to have both GFWL installed (as well as Rockstar Social Club) just to play singleplayer is ridiculous. And the way that GFWL handles saves even in single player. It's so unnecessary for those many, many people who do not wish to play it online to have to install redundant software. That, and it's Microsoft, which I just don't like; pretty much all software they make pisses me off. I am unloyal to the brand, I suppose, and I don't appreciate it intruding on my game.

On the other hand, I wouldn't mind terribly if it used Steam, because I like Valve and I think Steam's now gotten past its teething problems. I also use it for the entire Half-life series and I've been happy with it for that purpose, so if more games were included, I'd be okay with it.

At the same time, if independent game servers were used, I don't think we would have lost anything other than dependencies and bloat. It's not too much to ask people to install their own updates (I always think it's better done that way anyway) and the multiplayer experience is pretty much the same. Eh smeh. I'd just like not to have more software rammed down my throat.

Steam, and let people rent custom servers to add to the ingame server list. I'm never buying a multiplayer game that uses this lame console matchmaking system again, I've played about 2 hours of multiplayer in GTA4 and i had it pre-ordered on release. Multiplayer was the main reason for me buying this game and it's just pathetic (when i can actually connect to a game)

When people see a decent online community in a game, it continues to thrive until something else better comes along, in gta4's case that would be until the next instalment. Rockstar are miles ahead of anyone in the 'free roaming' sandbox type games, the multiplayer aspect in Gta4 had the potential to be epic but it's about as good as a wet firework.

hi all

im just wondering, what is wrong with GFWL?

thanks

it's like buying a new outstanding car which comes with a radio that can only play barbra streisand, without that radio the car refuses to work. So you are doomed to listen to barbra streisand for as long as you want use the car.

And you can use a tool (xliveless) to disconnect the speakers biggrin.gif .

But you lose the ability to use Nitrous(MP) with that xliveless. Then it will better for you to steal a new car rather than buy it.

Game specific. I'm sick of faceless corporate systems. Let the users decide and create and customise their own servers and content.

It's kept MTA and SAMP alive for so long.

I´m still wondering why R* chose GFWL for IV in the first place?

Is it part of the DLC pact?

edit: I vote for GTA specific. I want next GTA to be normal, healthy & independent.

Microsoft have already paid R* a sh*tload of money for the DLC packs, so I won't be surprised if they gave R* a little more to use GFWL for the PC Version. It's very much plausible.

If R* need the money from M$ so bad that they have to ignore the wishes of 94% of their customers, then Im more than willing to pay an extra 10$ for the next GTA, as long as it isnt bundled with all that silly bloatware.

Smiler-Online

Since this is in the GTAIV PC discussion section, I will just aim my point at the current GTA title (IV)

I think that R* should take advantage of the abillity to create custom servers for IV (using GFWL) and enable you to in a future patch...

as for the Next title, well, if GFWL doesn't improve in any way at all, then I would preffere an online system similar to EAs (but for R* titles obvously)

Steam. it has proven itself very reliable and as an added bonus it has non-invasive DRM that is far more effective than securom.

EDIT: it also has a truly EXCELLENT anti-cheat system. I have never seen a hacker on any steam based games.

I have, but they're quickly gone. Steam frequently updates and gets rid of the backdoors the hackers use.

Eitherway, I'm in for Steam or GTA-Specific. But it's pointless using resources on a GTA-specific when they've not even properly optimized IV for PC.

Steam is a solid, reliable and user-friendly platform. Go for it.
