And there's more. Once again, click the thumbnails for 1900x1200 images, approximate size 1.1MB each.

About to take to the air. You can see detail in grain on the wood and the texture in the paving:

Looks good, but tbh i dont think these are better than the screenshots ppl have been posting in the screenshot thread using 1 Gb VRAM GPUs and 100% maxed GFX settings, btw you should use farclip 3500 to increase view distance and eliminate some of the fog you see at the end of the scene. wink.gif

I must admit, I wasn't quite sure about the conversion software I've ended up having to use. My normally reliable Paintshop Pro was playing up with these images, so I had to use something else. And although I set the JPEG quality to max, I'm not so sure the tiny details in the images have survived the process. Which is a shame because that's what I'm trying to demonstrate.

I'll look into it further if I get a chance.

Play the game at a lower setting (do not exceed your physical vram limits); equivalent to 'max settings' with the 2 GB card.

Then play the game using maximum settings (exceed limits).

If you see a difference (texture popin perhaps?) then that's where the extra memory kicks in.

Otherwise there's no difference between the 1 GB and 2 GB. But we pretty much knew that already.

In fact I'm quite sure I said that at the start of this thread somewhere.

edit;

btw I agree with you about the shots, but I don't think the extra vram would really be noticable in still screens.

Yes, but thats what this thread is about - no FPS boost, but a "quality" boost in theory, thats in the end also being proved not to exist.

The only way to know would be to own both 1GB and 2GB models, and try them both on the PC yourself.

Otherwise screenshots and YouTube videos won't be enough to show anything...

Youtube videos obviously not, but screenshots yes, if the difference is so small that hq .jpgs cant show anything at high resolutions, there is nothing to be shown.

What exactly would you expect to see in a screenshot?

The game on max settings would look the same, whether you're using a 2GB card or you're using norestrictions, etc.

Huh?

We both have 1GB cards, what exactly would the difference be?

A texture is a texture, no matter where it's stored.

Playing with 2GB of memory won't make the graphics look better.

lol.gif

edit;

Yes I play 1920x1200 on all maxed.

Or at least I did, I don't play GTA4 anymore.

I beg to differ

If you're going to say that playing on a card load of 1600/1024MB won't emit faded textures and pop-ins, show a proof.

We are talking about highest 1 Gb VRAM x highest 2 Gb VRAM, this difference cant be shown in a youtube video.

You can't even see the difference between the High and Medium in that video.

You just proved his point that YouTube videos don't work well for quality comparison...

Maybe HD quality is disabled in your country, though this video shows the difference hard and clear.

Hard and clear?

The only spot you can see a difference is when the camera is pressed against the pavement. Otherwise the sh*tty YouTube quality 'blurs' out any of the differences.

Yes there's a big improvement from Medium to High, but that video does a terrible job of showcasing it.

Well I would love to see the comparison between thales' and Vicetopia's screens...

Graphics comparison or quality comparison?

The ability to take artsy screens doesn't mean the graphics are better.

If you want to debate about who is better at taking screenshots, then this isn't the place for it.

And I'm in no way interested in getting myself involved in that debate.

I only posted 10 or so screenshots since playing at 2mp.

Look around the March 28th post date in the screenshots thread.

What you're talking about now is Nvidia vs ATI image quality.

http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/image.html?i...VdfNF81X2wucG5n

It's an old discussion, and there is no difference.

The image quality between the two companies is the same. Identical. No difference. This debate point is moot, has been for years.

Which is why I think this kind of comparison is ridiculous in the first place, hence my previous confusion:

Huh?

We both have 1GB cards, what exactly would the difference be?

The suggestion that either company would have better or worse graphics (at the same setting) confuses me.

I don't know how someone could make such an argument these days. Only someone with no knowledge of current graphics hardware could even insinuate such an idea.

Although I should remember what forums I am reading.

Thales has already suggested that playing on maximum settings between 2GB and 1GB would show a graphical difference in screenshots.

That's not true.

Thales then suggested that Nvidia cards have better image quality than ATI cards at the same settings.

That's not true.

And now the thread has been sidetracked by two false statements.

So now we're having a discussion about false statements. Sometimes these forums annoy me more than entertain me.

Thanks so much for all the pictures, dude. What's really interesting is the draw/view distance of course. It's the true difference between the 1 and 2 GB VRAM. I guess you're also happy about the high textures 'cause you had just a 512 MB card before. It's very interestng to me to see how this game will look in a few years time when everybody has cards like yours... awesome! Thanks again. wink.gif

For those who are still interested,

I have 1gb gtx 285. Only 3 days after I bought it, 2gb came out for only $30 extra. That was a buzz kill.

But to be quite honest my benchmark satisfy me to say the least. The only thing I couldn't get to the highest was the distance density, 1005mb was the highest. As you can see VRAM usage was 97%.

But still, 63.4 fps is quite nice. I'm sure i7 added some horse power to it a lot which had the usage of only 34%.

By then everyone will have have moved onto GTAV and it will probably take 10GB of VRAM to max that out. tounge.gif Oh and Agent Ozzy's gang territory glitch thread will still be going. lol.giflol.gif

1700MB to max out this game(for eye candy not speed). That's sick, and I don't mean awesome.

That's a conflict, more draw dis' means more AAx0 textures.

i rather see less textures for now.

if and when this game will get a AA support, it will be worth the extra $30.
