Why the f*ck are you so butthurt about graphics from less than 2 years ago, though? I seriously don't see your point when you go all f*cking graphics-whore on everything.

Are Fallout 3 graphics in this game going to murder your family or something? Are they going to burn out your retinas? What the f*ck is your problem with graphics which are slightly sub-par?

Why shouldn't the graphics be better? If you don't care about them, you don't care about them. The guys who write the precious story and code the gameplay aren't the same guys who work on textures and other aspects of the graphics. So where are they and what are they doing if we're seeing recycled models and textures left right and center.

It's a valid criticism whether you care about graphics or not. You can't respond to this post and say I'm wrong although you seem to defend Fallout like it's your own baby. You've got to stop jumping down peoples throats for being a bit critical of the game you get a hard-on for. Going back through the topic you've gotten into retarded arguments with people before, like the colour the mutants skin (OH SH*T, THAT'S GRAPHICS).

Give it a rest guys, why so hostile to each other? Either keep it civil or your actions will have consequences.

This. Two pages of people arguing about graphics and the game being/not being a sequel. Just chill the hell out guys.

If the graphics look similar to FO3 then i'll still be happy because i honestly dont give a sh*t about them, if they look amazing, cool, if they are average but i can still play the game, cool.

I wouldnt regard this as a glorified DLC, whoever said that needs to get a grip imo, whole new map the size of FO3's, new creatures, characters, places etc sounds excellent to me.

Super pumped for this game.

Why do they have to be better? Obsidian Entertainment don't have limitless manpower working in all departments. Of course there will be some people working on new textures but we can't all have what we want. If they already have most of the resources needed for a 2010 Fall release (read: Fallout 3 textures) then why delay the game for a year when the graphics (and not just textures) are completely out of date? It's clear that they're pushing it for a game of this graphics in 2010's gaming market, even if I wouldn't give a sh*t.

You can't respond to this post and say I'm wrong although you seem to defend Fallout like it's your own baby.

Nah, it's really just this site. There's about 1 or 2 other people who actually understand what the hell the first 2 games were about in comparison to Fallout 3 and it's just all gang-rape from point zero.

You've got to stop jumping down peoples throats for being a bit critical of the game you get a hard-on for.

This is hypocrisy, if I go into the Fallout 3 thread here and say "I didn't appreciate the dialogue in this game", the inevitable response I would get would be to f*ck off or "don't read the dialogue then". I am really done discussing this matter anyway. Let this be the end of this business.

Going back through the topic you've gotten into retarded arguments with people before, like the colour the mutants skin (OH SH*T, THAT'S GRAPHICS).

Bah, I'd rather you not bring up past-arguments to try to "beat" this one. The colour of the mutants' skin is completely irrelevant and opinionated on "which is better" as I can see, being dazed and delirious in past holds no excuse to pick fights with people.

And one last thing, people like you have to complain about graphics for no proper reason, why do the graphics have to be better? Is there anything really wrong with them so critically that it would affect your play experience?

~~~~~
@foohy: Please, accept my apology for being a raging idiot. Even if that was just theoretical it was still just stupid of me and I respect your opinion. Graphics just don't need to be better every time a new game comes out, if that was true then there would be no games with the "best" graphics (like Crysis) and people would have to spend money to surpass this sh*t with every game. Anyway, end of discussion - I do not wish to fight with you anymore.
@everyone else: Enough of this discussion, if you may, I'm too tired to fight about stupid sh*t on the internet today.
@saintdave: Yes I realize this, it's my inability to hide true feelings that always ends up in situations like this.
Don’t worry about it mate. We want people to post their views on the game and I understand you can get caught up in things more so when you have a strong opinion on it. But we just need to remember that no one is right and no one is wrong either. Keeping the discussion on a mature level lets everyone see your point from both sides.
On topic have they given a rough release date yet?
Yes, I'd really rather it if this would just stay on topic for once and not derail on account of myself.
On topic have they given a rough release date yet?
Pretty sure it should be around October if they're going with the whole Great War thing again, they've said Fall 2010 as a rough release date.
You'd think by now they would have shown some actual images of New Vegas right? Unless it's going to end up as the crappy, boring part of the world like DC ruins were in Fallout 3... suicidal.gif
Hate to tell you man, but that's not actually anything to do with fallout, it's a photoshop of Resident Evil:Extinction with a Vault Boy spliced onto it. But I'm sure you already knew that.
Also the reason why they haven't shown New Vegas yet is because maybe they're leaving it up to when the game comes out. Nothing is gonna beat when you finally get a glimpse of that glorious city when you're travelling across the desert.
You are the dumbest f*ck I have ever read in my life.
We're complaining about the graphics because, from those images, they look the Goddamn same as Fallout 3. Why in the blue hell is that so hard for you to comprehend? They have to be better because it's the NEWEST f*ckING FALLOUT GAME. One with a brain would think they'd look better, obviously not you.
I don't even know why I'm complaining about them, the game isn't even out yet, I'll give it a final impression when I get it in my hands. It's just that Reconite has "Obsidian Entertainment"'s cock so far up his ass that he can't accept the fact that the game looks similar visually to F3.
It's not like it's much of a problem really, the only problem to me is that the landscape looks like it's got similar textures, for the rest I dont really care much, and I'm thinking it will most likely get edited, since I'm sure a flood of complains about this must be getting there... No reason to fight guys, the game's gonna rock anyways lol
Did I say that? No.
Did I say that graphics don't matter? Yes.
Of course the graphics look similar or have a lot of the same textures as Fallout 3, you think I'm blind? It's just everyone going nuts in fear that the game will just be "glorified DLC" because of the graphics it uses.
I'm done talking with you if the only reply I'm going to get is "dumb f*ck" and other random insults.
And I mean done.
I hope New Vegas has the same physiological aspects FO3 had.
Like exploring old rusty (failed) vaults and having flashbacks of being back in shiny clean vault 101... kinda creepy in FO3, but then turning around a corner and seeing a super mutant kinda destroyed the atmosphere..
Vaults should be larger, and creepier. Like I've heard the stories of "Deep Underground Military Bases" (yes, DUMB) that are like a mile+ underground.. The stories go that there's like 100 of them in the United States, built, and still being built --- underground cities... Supposedly true. In the same vain as Area 51 and UFOs --- could very well be true wink.gif
Anyway, vault 101 lacked the creepiness and twisted feeling that being deep underground should have. Some of the other Vaults in FO3 are connected to cave systems, which I liked; but it just never really felt like there was much to explore, or that you were REALLY deep underground.
So yeah, I'm hoping for fully sized vaults, that are really deep underground, like a real nuclear fallout shelter would be like..
CONSPIRACY THEORIST, PUT ON YOUR FOIL HATS!
happy.gif Since I live pretty much in the shadow of Cheyenne Mountain, maybe they'll let me into NORAD when the nukes fall? happy.gif
Yeah, eat me up because some of the photos are actually of some salt mine in Switzerland... And the rest with roadways are probably norad... At least have some imagination!
And enjoy life more! Jeez, whiners and skeptics are annoying...
I really hope this game is a bit longer than Fallout 3. I remember it took me about a week to beat the story and I thought it was going to take me a month looking at the massive map.
Although I heard it'll take us some 300 hours just to explore the world of New Vegas. icon14.gif
The concept art in the latest PCGAMER was pretty sweet, showing downtown, etc.
I agree that the graphics look sort of dated, based on what we've seen, anyhow. I don't expect much better; at this stage in the game we're being held back by the consoles more than anything else. Fallout 3 was really taxing on the systems as it was. I am looking forward to new landscapes, and I hope we get to see a decent variety. Perhaps without the oppressive clouds of nuclear waste in the sky, we'll even see some bright and cheery neighborhoods, complete with white picket fences or even fancy shrubberies like we saw in FO2's NCR or Vault City. Even the tribal stuff would be neat to explore.
However, what ever graphical improvements we do see are going to be dwarfed by the new gameplay mechanics. Modifying weapons, a separate karma/reputation system, and far more skill based checks in conversations all point to a much better role playing experience. This, beyond all else, is why I'm glad to see Obsidian on board. So - while it may look like Fallout 3, make no mistake. This is a brand new game.
And finally, I really hope they hire different voice actors, or at least a wider variety. I feel like, between games Oblivion, Fallout 3, Dragon Age, & Mass Effect, quite a few voices get far too much play. I wanna hear some fresh stuff. Some natural sounding stuff. That'll go a long way to freshen up the window dressing. However, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that these people are contractually locked in for sequels.
Actually even the people over in the Fallout 3 don't care for F3's crappy sub-par dialogue.
Maybe graphics was the wrong word. Fallout 3's graphics were and [to a lesser extent] still are fine. It's the textures we -- or at least I -- was talking about. When the first screenshots came out I thought they were just F3 pics posted by some troll. I honestly thought they were from Fallout 3. Literally every texture I've seen in the pics seems to be copied from Fallout 3. I'm not asking for a complete visual overhaul -- just some variation and a sense of originality from Obsidian. Surely that's not to much to ask for.
I agree they don't need to be better. But it would be nice if they were. Even something small like a new sky or location-accurate foliage/terrain would be enough to make NV seem relatively fresh and new.
Apology accepted smile.gificon14.gif I don't want to fight anymore either. I think we were both confused, to some extent, about what the other one was saying.
Good luck with that. tounge.gif
I've visited Colorado (Denver) a few times, but I've never been around NORAD. Guess if something akin to the Great War came true, my only option would be to find a tornado shelter and try to survive the supposed "radioactive dustbowl".
I can one up that. I live near Norfolk, VA. The Naval base and the shipyards, and an Air Force Base, and an Army Base.
I'm screwed. lolz
I felt the same way. I also could play Oblivion for much longer and it always seemed like there were new things to explore and do, whereas F3 seemed to get old rather fast ... and there just wasn't as much stuff to explore and look at.
Hopefully the new game will be better.
I disagree, Oblivion was way more of a copy-and-paste world than F3, so I got bored of the map quicker - not the game. But the map was pretty bleh.
I felt the downside to F3, in comparison to Oblivion, was the lack of variety in the landscape. It makes sense, in a strictly pragmatic fashion, but I loved the variety of environments in Oblivion, and I think that's what kept me really interested. It was WAY more varied than F3. Funny enough - I don't think I ever beat the main quest in Oblivion. I just had too much fun role playing. There weren't too many opportunities for that in Fallout 3.
But, in all fairness, no matter how similar they look, they are both very different games.
Anyhow, I'm a little confused by some of the art direction we're seeing in New Vegas. It's looking an awful lot like rubble and the results of warfare for a place where "the bombs never hit". Obviously buildings decay, and obviously there's bound to be damage from warring factions - but it seems a bit much, to me. I really hope we see some environments that have been well-guarded and even maintained by some of the stronger factions, like some of the locations in Fallout 2. Hell, there were places that were even downright civilized in Fallout 2, if entirely dystopian, that I'd love to see more of in New Vegas.
What do you guys think?
Assuming you're talking about the comment above yours; map design and graphics are not the same thing.
Not to mention that graphics are a huge part of any game. Sure, a game can be good without good graphics...but good graphics can only make a game better. Ever heard anyone say; "The game is pretty good. But I'm not gonna buy it because the graphics are just too good."? Nope.
I'm not going to start this argument again. Just read some of my past posts in this topic. There's the technology, money and know-how for NV to have better graphics, but so far the graphics look exactly the same as Fallout 3. That's just laziness on the dev's part.
I shall indeed be hoping for more variety in enviornments, like as otter very well posted civilized places, and rubbled places.
A clever mix of both, combined with the hostile desert will make this game nothing short of GOTY.
